Wrongly convicted of espionage, Guy Pearce turns out to be the government’s go-to guy when the president’s daughter is trapped aboard an orbital maximum security prison. Maggie Grace also stars. Executive producer Luc Besson co-wrote with first-time feature directors James Mather and Stephen St. Leger. Known under other names abroad and re-titled Lockout for the U.S. market, the FilmDistrict/Open Road sci-fi prison thriller is scheduled to open April 20.

Seen worse. Guy Pearce should work more, he’s so underrated.
Agreed.
I remember seeing this when it was called “Escape From New York” in the U.S. market.
For a second, I thought this was actually a remake.
“There’s only one man who can get her out….he’s the best there is, but he’s a loose cannon.”
I’m sorry, but who on earth writes this crap?
And the end of the trailer: “Don’t worry, it’s perfectly safe.” and then they fall. Wow, really?
I usually don’t like criticizing, but those were HUGE red flags for me.
This looks nothing like Escape from New York. That was about a former special forces soldier turned criminal named Snake who is given a chance at freedom if he rescues the President from Manhattan, which has been turned into a prison where the criminals run free. This is about a former government agent turned criminal named Snow who is given a chance at freedom if he rescues the president’s daughter from a space station with has been turned into a prison where the criminals run free.
They’re completely different!
Thinking the exact same thing!
Could be good, but it’ll be hard to find the differentiators for marketing purposes, because aesthetically at least it seems rather generic. Anyone remember the Christopher Lambert flick Fortress? I sure hope this is better.
I love it. Luc Besson knows how to write a fun movie. Guy Pearce is good in EVERYTHING.
I like that he can do The King’s Speech, Memento, LA Confidential and be an action star too.
And he also played a drag queen in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
I agree that Guy Pearce should work more. He’s sensationally talented. The argument against though would be that, for all his talent, he’s not actually a leading man.
Weird that in a world where Sam Worthington headlines films, Guy Pearce doesn’t fit the bill.
But unlike Pearce, who is superb as a supporting actor, Worthington would be best being left right out.
Seems like a lot of fun with some great visuals. Wish they could have figured out how to make the trailer without all the cliched Escape from New York setup, but I guess that’s the tone. Just feel there’s enough Guy Pierce’s awesomeness that they could probably do without it and it would have still been fun and awesome. Maggie Grace, blah… but that main prison lead seems kind of badass.
Guy Pearce is usually outstanding. This looks like fun. I’d love to see Pearce in a breakout hit, probably won’t happen with this but fingers crossed.
Guy Pearce is terrific … just terrific. and, Maggie Grace? Pretty easy on the eyes if you ask me. Will definitely watch this one. Always wondered why Pearce isn’t bigger.
“There’s only one man who can do the job.”
“He’s a loose canon.”
I was really hoping in the future they might have outlawed all these cliches. I can’t believe Nicolas Cage doesn’t star in this.
Yeah Pearce is great but this is such a retread of Escape from NY and Outland. Typical Hollywood “let’s just remake what worked before instead of coming up with original ideas”.
Imagine the pitch: “It’s like Escape From New York, but…and here’s the kicker…in OUTER SPACE! Aboard a SUPERMAX SPACESHIP!”
Sold in the room.
This looks fun. Guy Pearce working for Luc Besson! I agree — he’s one of the most underrated actors working today. Or perhaps, not working today. There’s gotta be a reason.
A profound waste of tax dollars to imprison people in space…Anyone so dangerous as to need to be sent into orbit should probably just be killed. Cheaper and safer.
“Lockout” is the next logical step for Saint & Mather whom directed/produced the Vfx-heavy short film, “Prey Alone”. Casting Guy Pearce gives the movie its much needed gravitas.
Looks funny, looks fun, totally there.
Looks cheesy, but in a good way.
Rblythe beat me to it!
I hope the producers paid John Carpenter…
“He’s the best there is, but he’s a loose cannon.” With dialogue like that this movie looks like a can’t miss proposition.
He’s Guy Pearce and he’s a LOOSE CANNON!
Maggie Grace… Ugh! She was the worst thing about Taken. I have no idea how she keeps getting work.
I want to go all in but the “He’s a loose cannon!” line threw me off completely. Still, it looks like fun.
Dude, I don’t know what some people here are talking about. This movie looks awesome. I’ve been itching for an action sci-fi movie that is not branded, a remake, or some tired flick starring Jason Statham. This is a great premise, great trailer, and I’m in.
If Luc Besson wrote the line “He’s the best there is…but he’s a loose cannon,” then I wouldn’t venture to say he knows how to wipe his ass properly, much less “write a fun movie.”
Yeah, b/c La Femme Nikita, The Fifth Element and The Professional were all terrible movies…
Joe prefers “smart” action flicks. “It’s a dream within a dream within another dream.”
Well…that loose canon line was horrible, BUT you can’t beat some Guy Pearce.
One of my favorite actors. I’m sure I’ll see it for him and Besson makes some good films.
Whoever handed in pages with that line should be sent to a remote station in the North Pole to write technical manuals for the rest of their natural born life.
You’ll get my money Pearce.
So agree that Guy Pearce is underrated… He was amazing in Mildred Pearce, an unsympathetic role that he made completely human and (almost) sympathetic. Let’s give him more substantial stuff to work with!
