Lily Collins is in early discussions for the lead role in FilmDistrict’s remake of Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead. Collins’ character Mia would be the main character that corresponds to Ash, who was played by Bruce Campbell in the original 1981 movie, according to the Bloody Disgusting blog. Mia is one of five young people who head to the remote cabin where evil awaits. Recovering from a recent overdose, Mia is particularly vulnerable. Collins plays Snow White in the upcoming Mirror Mirror directed by Tarsem Singh and previously was seen in The Blind Side and Priest. Raimi, Campbell and Rob Tapert are producing with Ghost House Pictures and Mandate Pictures. Fede Alvarez is directing and co-wrote the script with Rodo Sayagues. Diablo Cody (Juno, Young Adult) is revising the latest draft. The movie is targeted to open April 12, 2013.

So in other words, they bought the title for some cash, brought in Diablo Cody to give it some Raimi-like street cred, and are tricking people into thinking it’s a remake.
How stupid do they think people are? How stupid are we?
Never mind that the idea of “remaking” a movie that cost $50K in the first place is patently ridiculous.
Our culture is rotten. And that’s a problem, becuase the culture is us.
Casting Director: “OK, in this scene, you’re on your back. You’ve fallen. And these vines, see, these vines have wrapped around your ankles, and are pulling. Pulling, see. And this tree, well, it’s really more a root, and it’s coming towards you.. and … ”
Auditioning Actress: “What?

There’s a reason stuff like that was in the original. You need something to push past your crap budget and get noticed. I can’t see them being as gonzo this time around.
But Diablo Cody is involved, so who knows?

this sounds horrible. The first evil dead is crap. Thought it would be a cool cult film but it’s soooo awful. Sam Raimi has come a logn way since then, don’t think I would have hired him after that crap. Also, I know this is mean, but Lily Collins, Bigfoot called and he wants his eyebrows back.
This is wrong on so many levels. Some movies are just not meant to be remade. No one can place Ash but Campbell he is the reason the movie is what it is. Is hollywood that desperate for ideas that they have to remake a classic. All remaking it will do is tarnish the original for future generations. Don’t do it!!! Let it go down in history they way it was meant to, as one of the 80′s great B rate films.
