Lionsgate is releasing the home video version of the Taylor Lautner movie Abduction today simultaneously via rentals on Facebook, DVD, Blu-ray and digital download. Lionsgate anticipates the strategy will provide extra mileage in the rental market as well as gaining social media benefits such as customer emails and increased interaction, according to the Financial Times. This will provide Lionsgate with a direct link to customers. EVP Anne Parducci says the company knows who its Facebook page fans are “but we don’t have a direct to consumer relationship with them.” Abduction, which took in $28.1 million domestically, will cost $3.99 for a 48-hour Facebook rental via credit card or PayPal. Lionsgate opted not to use Facebook Credits, which charges distributors 30% for each transaction. Since Warner Bros offered The Dark Knight for rental via Facebook last March, more than a dozen studios have offered previously released rentals. Lionsgate is including special features such as an interview with Lautner and key scenes with quote pop-ups for users to comment on and share. Information studios glean from Facebook allows them to tailor ad campaigns accordingly.

Ah yes, Abduction:
“There’s a bomb in the oven”
“I will kill all of your friends on Facebook”
But best of all nobody ever gets fucking abducted. They’re always on the run.
Hands down the best comedy of 2011.
Well put! Why the (*&#^@ did they call this movie ABDUCTION????
No one ever gets abducted, and this incident that happened in the past was not an abduction either!
Sigh. I know everyone’s tired of asking but good God WTF happened to John Singleton?
I think it was Singleton’s talent that got abducted.
The problem with this film is that Lautner’s core audience are screaming girls who don’t want to see him in an action movie. They want to drool in love with him in love stories and romances. That’s what he should stick to, and perhaps romantic comedies. When he grows up and starts growing some hair on his chest and whiskers and learns to truly act, then he can experiment with other things but for now, if he wants to keep his day job, he can’t do films that he’s interested in, he has to do things that his audience wants to see himself in.
Whenever Julia Roberts strayed away from what people wanted to see her in (romantic comedies) her audience turned their back against her until recently when she did Erin B. and Eat, Pray. Her audience has matured and so they allowed her to mature too.
Same thing happens whenever Jim Carrey tries to be a “serious” actor. His audience doesn’t want to see him in that. His audience, is now kids who enjoy that style of humor so he needs to stick to it. However, he could getaway with the right romantic comedy if written right.
No the problem is that Lautner cannot act and has no charisma. So no one wants to see any movie with him in it.
A block of wood with googly eyes glued to it has more emotional depth than Taylor Lautner.
