Culver City, Ca. (1/31/12) – Matt Brown has been named Executive Vice President of Worldwide Commercial for Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, announced SPHE Worldwide President David Bishop, to whom Brown will report.
Brown, who was previously Executive Vice President – North America and International, now adds oversight for all commercial initiatives in Europe to his current portfolio of responsibilities, which had included North America and international excluding Europe.
Brown will work closely with Aodan Coburn, Executive Vice President of Worldwide Operations and Licensing, in managing the regions encompassing Latin America, Asia Pacific and the Emerging Markets. Coburn’s expanded responsibilities will be in addition to his current focus on global licensing and supply chain. He will report to Brown on all commercial matters, and he will continue reporting to Bishop for operations and supply chain.
In announcing the re-structuring, Bishop stated, “Creating a single, global commercial enterprise that is both focused and nimble is a timely and strategic response to the challenges of an evolving business environment. Additionally, this places our commercial initiatives in line with those of our other departments – marketing, digital and operations – which are all worldwide in scope.
With a unified commercial network under Matt’s leadership and with support from Aodan, I am confident that our European team – and SPHE as a whole – will continue to thrive.”
Brown has served in a variety of roles at SPHE, including most recently as Executive Vice President for North America and International (excluding Europe), and prior to that, as Executive Vice President, Europe. Brown, who will be based in Culver City, attended the University of Rhode Island.
During Coburn’s more than 20-year tenure at SPHE, he has held several executive positions in Licensing and Operations, Business Development, and Commercial and Operations in both the United States and the United Kingdom. He is a graduate of Trinity College in Dublin.

Brown is and always has been one of the finest gentleman the business has known. It’s really great to see a good guy do well.
I’ve worked with Matt previously and he’s top-notch and high class. I’m so happy for his success – well deserved.
A quick story of what kind of man Matt Brown is. Every once in a while, he would take all the various freebies and gifts that he received over a period, and just place them in a communal area for us grunts to scavenge. We are talking about new iPhones and autographed stuff, the perks that the execs get but the day to day people don’t.
Sony is very lucky to have him (and his office quitar collection) within their walls.
matt is a great guy.and a good exec but he surrounds himself with questionable VP’s and executive directors on the domestic home entertainment side….they act like it is still 1990 and sales are thru the roof…..
A well deserved promotion to one of the few executives who doesn’t have their head up their arse. He cares and is capable of relating to all levels of staff. Congrats Matt!
Yea for Matt! He was really nice to me when my dog was sick. Way to go Matt!
Let’s hope he cleans up the territories in Europe and gives Sony Pictures the good name back it had before certain wannabes took over.
Ha ha… good advice! Matt, take a broom with you when you head over to Europe!
