EXCLUSIVE: When you consider how important gadgets are in James Bond lore, it makes sense for MGM and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment to use the 2012 International CES to announce plans to release all 22 movies in a boxed set of Blu-ray discs. This will be the first time that all of the films — from Dr. No to Quantum Of Solace – have been offered together, and that nine of the films will be available in HD. The package celebrating 007′s 50-year film career also will include 130 hours of bonus features. The set will be available this fall for about $199, but fans can pre-order on Amazon starting today. The announcement will be made at a panel about the Bond films featuring directors John Glen (For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy, A View To A Kill, The Living Daylights, and Licence To Kill), Martin Campbell (GoldenEye, Casino Royale) and Michael Apted (The World Is Not Enough). Also appearing will be actresses Olga Kurylenko (Quantum Of Solace) and Caterina Murino (Casino Royale). Last year, Fox used the CES platform to announce sales of its Star Wars Saga set of Blu-ray discs.

I paid for my first Bond in the 70s – in a movie theatre that is- Moonraker was the title
(three times in a row, btw)
In the ’80s I bought my first Betamax Bond-
later again on VHS-
In the late 80s I bought a laser disk Bond-
In the late 90s I bought a DVD Bond-
In the mid 2000′s I downloaded just for fun a Bond on pirate bay-
Jesus, how much money will the Broccoli’s with me…?
Okay, I might not buy the the blue ray edition, but what will I tell my son…?
Tell your son it took you 35 years and 5 life cycles to finally figure out that they are all the same freakin’ product!!!!!
22 blu-ray discs, but only 9 films are in HD? Saywhoozit?
Nine are new to HD. Meaning they’ve never been on Blu-ray before.
I think the article means that out of the 22 films, 9 have never been in HD before, but are now.
Yes… first time they’ve all been in one collection and the first time 9 of the 22 have been released in HD. You Only Live Twice, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, Diamonds Are Forever, The Spy Who Loved Me, Octopussy, A View to a Kill, The Living Daylights, Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies haven’t previously been released on Blu-ray.
Good news all around, fantastic time to be a Bond fan.
Can I trade QoS for Casino Royale (1967)?
Some Bond films were released on Blu-Ray several years ago. Nine of the films make their Blu-Ray debut with this box set.
Apocalypse, no … this is the first time nine of the Bond films have been in HD. All the rest have been on Blu-ray already.
So far 13 Bonds are available on Blu-Ray. I have them all. It would be nice to just be able to buy the 9 remaining titles without having to buy the whole boxed set, which I am not going to do.
Agreed.
Can I buy all but the Roger Moore films?
Ditto to that. I have the 13 available Bond Blu-rays already, including a double-dipped purchased of the deluxe CR so, no, I really don’t see myself splurging for the boxed set of all 22. I do hope Fox/MGM will acknowledge that many a Bond fan already owns some or all of the 13 Blu-rays and offers the new-to-Blu titles individually. Here’s hoping…
Can’t wait for OHMSS on Blu-Ray.
Anything and any way to make extra bucks on these films, no matter what format they get released on.
It is inevitable that at some point in the future they will available individually.
Buy the ultimate editions that were restored by Lowery Digital in 2002 and that’s all you need. You get 20 Bond films so just need to add CR and QOS in Blue Ray and your up to date. The Lowery Digital restoration picture quality and sound is just as good as Blue Ray plus you get all the extra bonus material.
How can you say that Morgan? I have the Ultimate Editions and also all the available Blu Rays and they are as different as chalk and cheese. I defy you come to my cinema and not be blown out of the water by the Bluray of Dr. No. Just the fact that bluray is at least 4 times the line resolution of DVD means that the DVD can NEVER hold a candle to the quality of Blu.
Is it too much to ask that the original cinema posters are somehow used in the packaging for the new blurays? Most of them had a portrait version as well as landscape and I’ve been longing to have them as covers for the films. If not, maybe a ‘lobby card’ of each one in the corresponding Amray case? Now that would be cool.
I was disappointed when the earlier box sets didn’t include all the films in Blu-ray, so I’ve only bought the two Craig movies in the HD format. Hopefully the same extras from the DVDs will be included so I can retire the older box sets I bought back in 2002. Too bad they aren’t including Casino Royale 1967 or Never Say Never Again (since they own the rights to those now), but as those are available separately on Blu-ray it’s not a huge deal. The writer of the article might want to reword the bit about 9 films – I came here from a forum where people are blasting Sony for only including 9 of the Bond films in high-def. Oops!
What about the Blu-Ray 3D set? When would that be available? hehehe
I too am wondering if the remainder of the unreleased Bond Films on blu-ray will be released. I am not going to get the cumbersom box set and end up buying the ones I already purchased again.
