LOS ANGELES — The Classification and Rating Appeals Board today upheld the R rating given to the movie This Means War. The Classification and Rating Administration (CARA) had assigned the movie the R rating for “some sexual content.” In the appeal brought by Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation, the Appeals Board heard statements on behalf of This Means War from Ted Gagliano, President, Feature Post Production for Twentieth Century Fox. The Classification and Rating Administration was represented by Chairman Joan Graves.

Whoops! for Fox. Very curious to see how Emma’s most pet of projects fares at the box office, especially now.
Not good for this film… already it has a mixed message in its campaign. Is it a romantic comedy or an action movie… Is it for younger women or older women?
If this being Emma’s pet project is the only reason it’s being allowed to go wide with an R-rating, I’ll take it regardless. Added to which, hope the pic succeeds at the box office if only to prove to studios a PG-13 isn’t necessary in every single case.
Well, I want to see “some sexual content”, I hope they don’t editing the movie too much!
God forbid the youth of America see “some sexual content”. Thanks, MPAA, for continuing to censor what they see. Go rent “This Film Is Not Yet Rated” for a better understanding on how f’d up this system really is.
How utterly ridiculous. Funny how the violence in the movie doesn’t phase them at all. There’s more sex on your average reality show than in a Reese Witherspoon movie. Do they really think that a 14-17 year old (the difference between PG-13 and R) is going to be adversely influence by the sex here and not the violence that is piled on to so many PG and PG-13 films?
And yet we in the UK have rated it 12A, aka PG13. What’s up with the mpaa?
Does it really matter?
It looks awful, at least based on the trailers.
Maybe they should rate it DOA………..
Might actually be a good thing? The “R” rating could hold a greater appeal to a wider audience than the pg-13. Fox can sell it to adults more now than teens.
Saw a screening of it last night and am shocked that they held the R-rating. I knew it received an R earlier so I assumed I was watching an edited version to bring it down to PG-13, but guess not. There is one F-word (in a non-sexual use), no nudity, and the violence is completely bloodless. Sure, there are some crude sexual reference, mostly from Handler, but nothing no one has heard before. This will be a rating conundrum talked about for a while…
Oh yeah, the movie was OK as far as these VDay date movies go – especially for guys.
