The international press conference roll out for Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man began in Japan earlier this month. Then last week, an official synopsis hit the internet. Now, Sony is pulling Peter Parker fans further into its web with sneak peeks of never-before-seen footage in a global event slated for February 6. Viral promotional billboard displays have been going up this weekend in various cities directing folks to www.TheUntoldStoryBegins.com where tickets can be reserved. Sneaks will take place in New York, Los Angeles, Berlin, London, Madrid, Paris, Mexico City, Moscow, Rio, Rome, Seoul, Sydney and Tokyo. Along with the new footage, I hear there will be other surprises associated with the event next week and, according to the sign-up sites, tickets are going fast (in some cities they’re already gone). The Amazing Spider-Man opens in Japan on June 30 with the US and several other countries getting it on July 3.

Yawn. Not much interest from the audience in “The Amazing CGI Skinnyman.” Why they thought they needed a reboot this soon is beyond me.
Good
Not feeling the Spidey love these days? Me neither.
This movie seems destined to be remembered as the beginning of the end of the superhero movie trend/genre (and possibly the Pascal regime at SPE).
Sony screwed up BIG not sticking with Raimi and team–especially since the really had something to prove after Spidey 3. Audiences will give this movie a chance but no way does it make 300 domestic, which is what it MUST do to break even.
I think there is a general apathy towards this movie that goes beyond your cynical, vocal minority. And if a ten-year old can vividly recall seeing the previous incarnation of the series in theaters, it’s probably too soon for a “reboot.”
But if Andrew Garfield was around when Toby Macguire was cast as Spidey, I’d have definitely preferred the former.
Same. Andrew Garfield is better casting. I wasn’t a big fan of the Raimi-Spider-Man (though there were definitely some very good moments in all three movies).
I’m interested to see what this next incarnation is like. It’s a pity we never got to see James Cameron’s version.
* I meant previous incarnation of the character, not series.
Why all this Garfield love? What has he done to earn it?
Cost. The movies were getting too expensive as was the cast.
It’s Spider-Man. Even number three that was rubbish bagged close to 900 million worldwide. Why anyone can think this film will struggle is beyond me.
I agree. I can’t wait for this movie!
Raimi or Webb, really doesn’t matter to me but I’m getting a strangely weird (bad) vibe from this movie that I can’t put a handle on. Being a Spider-Man fan (-from the 60s, I may add. The rest is CRAP), I hope I’m wrong. Maybe it’s the casting but I’m weary.
Maybe the rights should return to Marvel.
I’m a huge Spider-Man fan, and while I didn’t love Raimi’s versions, the fact that they are “rebooting” this franchise is beyond me and feels like an insult to fans. I wish they would just continue with the storyline with a new cast…
I won’t watch this movie and I know it’s bad for me to wish ill but I hope this movie doesn’t do well so as to make studios reconsider doing needless rehashes for no good reason.
That would be stupid as hell. You can’t just continue with new cast. They needed this because Raimi screwed Spiderman 3 up. I liked it at the time but I always knew he did several things wrong. Everyone knows this. This is mostly why it gets a reboot.
WTF! I can’t wait for this movie! They needed a reboot. Raimi’s was good but damn the first one was over 10 years ago. He did a lot of things different for the Spidey world and the 3rd one was ok but Venom should have been bigger. It is time for The Amazing Spiderman. One whom has web shooters. One whom isn’t with Mary Jane. I can’t wait for this and TDKR!!!!!!
