BREAKING: New Line Cinema has set Scott Zabielski to direct Police Academy, its remake of the long-running film series that started at Warner Bros in 1984 and spanned seven films. They were considered lowbrow, but how many Warner Bros series has spanned that many movies, other than Harry Potter? Zabielski is making his feature directing debut after directing several seasons of episodes of the hit Comedy Central show Tosh.O. While Zabielski is new to features, he’s quite familiar with the concept of police academy: He went through the academy and is a reserve police officer in West Hollywood. He’s repped by Underground and UTA.

The capacity for outrage at the POLICE ACADEMY remake indicates vast pools of seething resentment in most of the commenters.
Don’t like it? Don’t see it. It will be just one of hundreds of movies made this year, if it’s made at all. It’s not a creative nadir, it’s business. If you’re not into it, vote with your wallet and support indie film.
Great! Lindsay Lohan can take the Kim Catrall role. That would at least be a better fit than playing Elizabeth Taylor on Lifetime.
WB is shepherding this for Tosh to star as well as a Mahoney-type lead.

Terrible. UTA used to rep good directors. Now they throw pond scum at the studios, and hope its sticks. Underground Management. Not much better. All this project now needs to be even more lame is to cast OJ as Nordberg. Lol!

Remaking “police academy”?What’s next?!? Doesn’t anybody have an original thought anymore!? If anyone needs a “police academy” fix- just watch one of the many films that were made. Remaking this is most likely a waste of time & money. Will someone-anyone-please come up with an original concept or idea!!! Thank you.
This is the very definition of “scraping the bottom of the barrel”. I doubt the studios have ever been as creatively bankrupt as they are right now.

Seriously…when are all of these remakes of past films and TV shows going to cease? It’s getting old already and it just shows Hollywood is running out of fresh concepts and ideas and they wonder why the box office has been struggling as of late.

Well, that’s it! Hollywood (or, at least, New Line) has officially used up everything in the barrel and is now scraping the muck off the bottom of it . . . and I don’t mean the inside of the barrel, either!

Scott is truly a no talent. He deserves this movie and they deserve him. Career killer but he has no talent so who cares.
Why not just re-release the original with extra footage not seen before? The way Lucas did with original Trilogy Star Wars Special Editions.

Am I the only person delighted? Who will play Sweetchuck and Zed in the reboot sequel? I just had a Police Academy movie party at my house. The original is kind of… Boring! Hate to say it, but it’s not as zany as I had remembered. Anyway, yes the new movie will be beyond horrible. But too many of the original cast are dead now… Guttenberg still has a killer bod. Bye.

The stock market has a saying – “As goes January, so goes the year.” That said, there will be a DEADLINE article sometime in December 2012 reporting on another record low year for box-office revenue.
Studios, if you wonder why your revenues are low, it is because you are doing it to yourselves.
