More to come from PBS president and CEO Paula Kerger as the public broadcaster opens the winter Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena. But first up are some programming announcements. On January 22, PBS will premiere Secrets Of The Manor House, covering “the background of the British titled class in Edwardian times,” according to the network, building on its breakout hit Downton Abbey set during the same period. PBS also unveiled Market Wars, a new competition series from the producers of Antiques Roadshow, making antiques scouting and bargaining into a spectator sport. Meanwhile, the network said the PBS Summer Arts Festival kicks off June 29 with Anna Deavere Smith as the weekly host. The lineup of programs will include John Leguizamo’s Tales From a Ghetto Klown and Mariachi High, a documentary series about a high school mariachi ensemble. Also announced: a new season of Art21’s Art In The Twenty-First Century, featuring a profile of Chines artist Ai Weiwei, arrested by government officials last year. Other artists featured will include California artist Catherine Opie, Glenn Ligon and Robert Mangold.

Isn’t a competitive antique scouting show just “Bargain Hunt?”
I’m on an online advisory committee for PBS. Months ago they sent out a survey on what shows participants would like to see; Market Wars was on the bottom of my list. I can’t believe they’re actually doing this show. When PBS starts touting reality shows, woe is us.
Where is Upstairs/Downstairs? Thought it was due for more eps after three in 2012?
Upstairs and Downstairs coming back in 2013 they going premite in the UK First in late 2012 they working on script right now
“Sherlock” isn’t listed either. I wonder if it’s still on for May. Hopefully it’s listed on the PBS website.
Oh. Does premiere just apply to a new series? I don’t remember.
