His own films often show up on year-end lists, so why shouldn’t Quentin Tarantino posit his own picks? Tarantino, readying Django Unchained with Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio and Christoph Waltz, has unveiled his top 11 2011 films list on The Quentin Tarantino Archives website. Tarantino has eclectic and broad film tastes, so perhaps it’s not surprising that overlooked films like The Beaver, Red State, The Three Musketeers, The Green Hornet and The Green Lantern rate high Q scores.

Sad that the industry’s hate of Kevin Smith means that Red State has been so overlooked. Michael Parks had one of the best performances of the year (granted, it was a very weak year)
It’s not the “industry’s hate” that’s excluding Kevin Smith, it’s that he always had a bloated sense of self worth as a writer, and was — to his own admission — never a competent director.
Even when making movies like Cop Out?
RED STATE sucked. Never knew what it wanted it to be.
It was an interesting experiment, at least. Though I don’t know if the movie itself would have gotten more or less attention without Kevin’s media whoring and pricy gimmicks.
Michael Clark in Red State was awesome! Totally overlooked.
I also felt John Goodman gave a great performance
Quentin’s always had good taste. And it’s pretty damn funny that THE ARTIST is tied with MY IDIOT BROTHER. Who else would even think to put them together? Way to go, Q!
I liked ‘My Idiot Brother’ much better than ‘The Artist.’
But Quentin, ‘Green Lantern?’ You gotta cut back on the weed, brother.
The Weinsteins.
It’s just missing Spy Kids 4. Did Quentin break up with Robert or something?
what about shame? are you kidding me? that should be on it. by far a work of art and genius.
i would think he’d be a little more discerning.
Whoa, Wasn’t the the host of Joe Schmoe in Red State?
Sure was! He’s Ralph Garman from the Kevin and Bean show in L.A.
Hey, it’s just one person’s opinion on what that one person likes. Obviously, since he included ‘X-Men: First Class’.
No objectivity… filled with mediocre films from his pals. Lame.
Agreed. I would think that he wouldn’t fall into nepotism/favoritism.
Young Adult? Green Lantern? The Sitter?
Folks, this is what is going on with the Oscars and the like when members vote for the “bests.” Sigh… what a douchey list.
A surprising list of politically motivated choices, especially coming from someone who refuses to join the DGA.
Your big complaint is “No objectivity”? This is a completely subjective exercise.
How could ANYONE leave Bridesmaids off their list???
That movie was so overrated. There have been better comedies out there that never got squat for awards.
Please name those better comedies.
Only reason dude doesn’t like DRIVE is cuz it sets a whole new level of cool way above his work. Revisionist somebitch needsa do more than steal from Bruce Lee movies. Cuz then he IS good, great even. Overall, list of the stuff he liked was dope.
Hear hear!
At least Tarantino works multiple influences into his films other than just Michael Mann
Really? Do you generally watch movies with only one eye open?
QT’s list? Really, why? and , why do you afford space to him? Mention of Scorsese’s HUGO under “others liked, in no order” . No love there.
He liked Green Hornet and Green Lantern?! Always knew this guy was a puerile dolt. Stop indulging him, folks.
RED STATE was seriously a joke…
It’s nice to see Kevin Smith has finally been outed as the hack he truly is.
His film resume has as much warmth as a list of Nazi dead.
I would actually put Anne Frank above Clerks 2 but that’s just me.
Wow, does Quentin hate David Fincher. He always trashes him whenever he can…..the jealousy is not becoming QT. Make a movie worth celebrating again.
Fincher or QT?
If think he was just rating films that had the best feet.
Drive should be called “Drivel”, and it’s good to see one of the greatest filmmakers of our time putting it in it’s proper place. Over-stylized fluff with no semblance of a decent plot.
Alternately, this list really spotlights how good Young Adult is – cuz it is.
Generally speaking the extent to which “Contagion” has been overlooked is truly perplexing. If a “classic” can actually come out of the movie business anymore this one may indeed fit the bill. In my opinion.
I’m confused. Reading the list and then the comments, I’m having trouble figuring out who is right about which movies are good. It’s almost as if whether you like a movie or not is based on subjectivity and personal taste, But according to a lot of the comments, that’s not true.
Mmm.
Shocking. I would expect Drive to be number two on his list. All of the comic book movies, excluding Thor, were utterly forgettable.
Wow – I stopped making lists like this when I was about 15.
The real travesty is that “Midnight in Paris” rates so high.
Really, Quentin?
That screenplay was so poorly written and structured.
Sure it made the audience feel smart for remembering all the basics of Hemingway, Getrude Stein, et al, but really that kind of mental masturbation was beat after “Manhattan.”
A super light trifle at the top.
Shows you how lame this list is.
“Tree of Life” was the bold movie of the year.
Love it or hate, you didn’t see ANYTHING like it.
Midnight in Paris poorly written and structured?
Seriously?
Allen can write and direct rings around most people working today, and did so with Midnight. Your statement is foolish and uninformed.
Wow no Girl with the Dragon Tattoo? I thought he loved Fincher
And no Muppets? Was that TV movie cameo just for the buck?
Funny, since “Apes” isn’t an adapted screenplay. You’d think such a self-imposed great “writer” would know this.
It’s based on existing material, therefore it’s an adaptation.
Not that I give a rat’s ass about QT’s favorite movies, but anyone who places “The Three Musketeers” even in their Top 100 movies is telling you something about them.
And I will be so proud to place “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” high in my Ten WORST list for 2011.
Eh, maybe if he gave reasons…
