CBS’ The Big Bang Theory proved that its narrow demo ratings win over American Idol in the 8-8:30 PM slot last week was no fluke. Last night, the hit CBS comedy (5.4/15 in adults 18-49, 16 million) was up 4% from its fast national result last week, finishing well ahead of Idol (4.8/14, 15.5 million) in the half-hour among adults 18-49. (Last week, the margin was 0.1) Big Bang also topped Idol in total viewers, adults 18-34 and adults 25-54. Additionally, the comedy tied the entire Thursday edition of Idol (5.4/15 in 18-49, 17 million) in 18-49 for the first time to finish No. 1 for the night. Versus last week’s fast nationals, Idol was down 6%. There was good news for Fox’s new drama The Finder (2.9/7), which was up a big 32% from last week. The Bones spinoff was probably aided by weaker competition at 9 PM, with no The Office and Grey’s Anatomy and Person Of Interest airing reruns vs. an originals last week, but the steady, double-digit growth is nevertheless impressive especially given the show’s underwhelming start.
News was not bad for another new series in its third week, CBS’ comedy Rob (3.5/9), which was down a tenth from its fast national last week and flat with the final. CBS aired drama repeats at 9 PM and 10 PM. NBC’s 30 Rock (1.6/4) was even with last week’s season low, while Parks And Recreation (1.7/4) was down 11% to a series low. Another 30 Rock original (1.9/5) aired at 9 PM, followed by an Up All Night rerun (1.4/3) and a new The Firm (1.0/3), which bounced back from last week’s series low, up a tenth. ABC aired reruns.

NBC cannot even put up a fight with the entire ABC line up in reruns and most of CBS in reruns. They actually need to order 20 pilots if they are to ever change their fortunes. These niche shows are not doing them any favors whatsoever.
Well then good thing they did.
I am at a loss of how anybody can find “Rob” funny. They’re probably doing what I’m doing – leaving the TV on CBS after watching “The Big Bang Theory” and check Facebook or do some online surfing until 9pm.
After their decent premier, Rob is now holding less of Big Bang than Rules of Engagement. And I don’t see it making a comeback.
Everything on last night were reruns. So if something jumped 32% its a no brainer , there was nothing else to watch
How anybody can watch Touch is beyond me. I did, and found it boring boring boring and that little boy is boring and annoying. I couldn’t believe one frame of that TV show.
Greenblatt is the king of the niche show! Ever heard of Smash? Not likely that a guy who came over from Showtime is going to morph into Les Moonves.
I am not a smart man. I am in the entertainment business but way on the peripheral. NBC must really be lost. They seem to be betting the farm on this horrible looking show about Broadway to run after the Super Bowl. I think they have really lost their minds. Between Madonna at 1/2 time and this show after I think men have lost control of the remote.
I bet the Giants at 80 to 1 at the beginnig of the season to win the Super Bowl. They were a long shot. Vegas is taking even money that NBCs Broadway show won’t make it to year 2.
I believe that The Voice is airing after the Super Bowl and Smash is airing the next night… but your point about the selection of shows and Madonna is well taken. The pairings seem as ill advised as when Fox thought that having an episode of Glee after the Super Bowl was a good idea.
The Firm up a tenth to a whopping 1.0. Wow.
I do like the Big Bang Theory but how nobody is watching 2 new episodes of 30 Rock and Parks & Recreation – two of the funniest and praised shows on TV – is a real head scratcher.
NBC needs to completely re-do Wednesdays and Thursday nights as they’re getting hammered on a consistent basis and hoping BBT destroys AI once and for all and FOX can finally take that garbage-fest off the air once and for all. ABC is just…well, ABC
