Bad reviews be damned. Rob Schneider’s new CBS comedy series Rob overperformed in its series premiere last night, drawing a 4.1/11 among adults 18-49 and 13.5 million viewers. The multi-cultural sitcom delivered CBS’ best numbers in the Thursday 8:30 PM slot in almost two years, since the Thursday finale of Survivor: Heroes And Villains on May 13, 2010, and ranked as the third-highest-rated new series premiere this season among 18-49 behind CBS’ 2 Broke Girls and Fox’s New Girl. On the cautionary side, Rob did only slightly better than the debut of the now-defunct $#*! My Dad Says in the time period in fall 2010 (4.0 in 18-49). Rob was helped by a strong lead-in from The Big Bang Theory (5.2/15), which was up 13% from its last original five weeks ago. (Rob was also probably aided by its strong Hispanic themes – George Lopez’ appeal to Latinos helped the ABC sitcom get to syndication). Rob lifted CBS’ rookie drama Person Of Interest (3.2/8, 14.3 million) at 9 PM to series highs in adults 18-49 and total viewers. The Mentalist (2.7/7) was flat. CBS easily won the night in 18-49 and total viewers.
News wasn’t as good for Fox’s new Bones spinoff The Finder, which opened with a 1.7/4 at 9 PM, dropping 29% from its lead-in, a new Bones (2.4/6, even with its last original telecast five weeks ago). The Finder will probably get a lift next week when it will air after American Idol.
In a challenging new time slot, Thursday 8 PM, NBC’s 30 Rock logged its lowest-rated premiere with its Season 6 opener last night, averaging a 1.8/5 among adults 18-49, down 31% from last season’s debut at 8:30 PM. On the plus side, 30 Rock outperformed the time period’s long-time occupant, Community, posting NBC’s highest 18-49 rating in the half-hour since September 29. 30 Rock‘s Tina Fey gave pal Amy Poehler a boost: At 8:30 PM, Poehler’s Parks And Recreation (1.9/5) was up 6% from its last original five weeks ago. The Office (2.9/7) was flat and tied for a season low. Rookie comedy Up All Night (2.0/5) showed only marginal improvement in moving to the Thursday 9:30 PM slot. Its debut in the new time period was up 5% from the show’s last original in the Wednesday 8 PM time period five weeks ago. In its regular time slot debut, NBC’s The Firm (1.0/3) dived 29% from its underwhelming Sunday premiere, falling below the ratings levels of its predecessor in the Thursday 10 PM slot, canceled drama Prime Suspect. Because this was an acquisition, The Firm costs NBC a fraction of what Prime Suspect did. But still, the network probably won’t keep the show on for much longer at these numbers.
ABC’s lineup took a hit against increased competition. Wipeout (2.2/6) was down 19% from last week’s season premiere. Grey’s Anatomy (3.8/9) was down 16%, and Private Practice (2.4/6) was down 11%.

I’m predicting a 30% drop next week.
Rob is a genius.
Great show “Rob”!!! Smart comedy and very funny!!!
All I have to say is this….The dumbing down of America continues….sad
You just made me puke in my mouth…
“30 Rock” used to be one of my favorite shows, and arguably one of the best on television. But last night’s season debut was abysmal. These are people who have lost all interest. They’re coasting towards syndication. I didn’t even crack a smirk or chuckle once during the entire show – and I was in a pretty good mood going into it. Just one unfunny rapid fire unfunny zinger after another with nary an ounce of depth, character growth, nothing. Compare that with “Breaking Bad” Season 4 which was better than EVERY movie that came out in the theater in 2011.
Um, it’s kind of stupid to compare “30 Rock” to “Breaking Bad” in the first place…..
Oh, let’s not compare a sit com with a drama, okay?
yes. yes. yes to all that you said.
I laughed out loud a few times during 30 Rock last night. I thought it was strong and funny. I’m glad it’s back.
You must not have seen Drive in 2011. Still love BB though.
jump back up your mother was freaking funny
Nice that THE FIRM is so cheap for NBC. Like LENO was. Well done, Peacock, keeping the Zucker legacy of “managing for margins” alive and well. God knows, investing in quality shows and sticking with them is so out of fashion, so 90s… y’know, the decade when NBC was successful and good? This is a well-deserved embarrassment. Leave THE FIRM on, let it set a new record for NBC — record lows.
Absolutely great news for Person of Interest.
Love watching it climb in the demo and viewers the last few eps. Super smart show and excellently written.
The good news? Killen, Isaacs, and crew can start prepping for a mid-February, early-March (or maybe sooner?) ‘Awake’ premiere date. Niiiiiiice.
Not really good news. That time slot on NBC is a waste. No new procedural will stand a chance against The Mentalist and to some extent, Private Practice. They need to launch something different in that space.
It’s not the reviews that should worry CBS. It’s the fact that Rob Schneider has never, ever, been funny.
Big fan of Grisham but his books don’t convert well to TV series.
As for Rob, don’t you people realize that folks are too lazy to find their remote and just keep it on CBS?!?
The Finder has some potential. Tried to watch The Firm – was so slow moving and boring i literally couldnt force myself to pay attention to it, tough to overcome when paired with such an overexposed and worn out brand and concept.
Kudos to CBS for adding diversity to network television comedy!
You realized that it’s been reviled by most hispanic organizations as wildly offensive, right? Being mexican is the punchline of every joke.
what a lie!! NONE of hispanics/Latinos find this show offensive, are you kidding??? ALL LATINOS ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SHOW!! #ROB is hilarious!!
latinos, specially Mexicans love to laught at ourselves! and this show does that..make us laugh non stop!!!
the only ppl that don’t like this show are americans that don’t understand latino sense of humour!!
Rob was sandwiched between two very popular shows and the bad reviews peaked intrest as to how bad could it really be. Whatever hey if people watch the Kardashians and wife swap they will watch anything. I like Rob Schnieder he has a funny sense but I’m going to sit this one out. Latinos are on the rise this just isn’t the show.
I thought for sure they would have canceled Rob Schneider’s show by now given how his career has been lately. But apparently there are 13 million morons who will watch anything just because it is on.
you are the biggest moron!! and a moron with no sense of humour..SAD!!
If you don’t like the show, don’t watch it loser
THE FIRM. Bahahaha! At least it will get some Emmy nominations, right? What a joke. Who is in charge at NBC?
That’s what usually happens. The Firm is a great show! It is well written and well acted. It just needs to catch on. Unfortunately in these days, the networks don’t give any show a chance to grow. Remember The Practice? It didn’t catch on until season 3 but ABC gave it a chance. Hopefully, NBC will give The Firm a chance to let it grow.
!ROB! Was hilarious! Diana Maria Riva is a top notch comedian and actress!!! I really enjoyed the pair up of her and Cheech! My whe family laughed the entire show!
So…. Whitney/Chelsea outperformed much of NBC’s critically acclaimed sitcoms except The Office. I hope this shows NBC off – they thought they would bury Whitney/Chelsea on Wednesdays, but they ended up doing better then much of the Thursday lineup. I think Whitney/Chelsea should air on Thursdays.
Why limit these magnificent shows to only one night of the week? I hear they’re broadcast every night in hell.
Why is 30 Rock still even on the air? Tina Fey would get a larger audience in an elevator.
Private Practice is another show that should be taken off the air. The only people who watch it are on it (and even half of them admit to to watching such drivel).
the bigger problem for nbc is how they launched the FIRM.
The combination of burying the show at sunday against stallworths like Good Wife-and Desperate, and have it be a 2 hour premiere..etc, it never had a chance out of the gate.
That’s something NBC has to really look at…..Whoever made that call is the one culpable for once again F#@#@@$ it up.
Learn from CBS how the launched the lousy show Hawaii Five O, but really were smart about the multi-level marketing done to bring awareness and interest..to give the show legs..
J
I watched “The Firm” with my Father, and even He said, “Turn that Sh*t off.”
The Finder sucked. Even as a stop-gap for Bones’ pregnancy, it’s a dud. Put Bones and Fringe back together, and leave the schedule alone, Fox.
Take Rob out of ROB and you might have something!
I watched Rob last night & its just so stupid the image some Americans have of Mexicans in this country. The writers must be pretty ignorat as well as some people I know in this country. Not all Mexicans talk like that & have some ugly houses like the one in this stupid TV Show. One more thing not every Mexican in this country is illegal. Shame on you CBS.
Agreed. It’s like they think it’s okay because we’re not making fun of hispanics, we’re making fun of Rob for being ignorant about hispanics. It’s ridiculous to even imply that anybody could be that naive and xenophobic in this day and age and still be at all likeable.
Of course not all Mexicans talk like that and of course not all Mexicans are illegal!..is so stupid to think that someone will believe that!
This show is a comedy and uses stereotypes to make us lugh!!! and it works because #ROB is absolutely hilarious!!
Everybody laughs about stereotypes, in Mexico we always laugh showing the “Americans” with shorts,a flower shirt and a camera and acting very dumb and of course everybody knows not all americans are like that (something so obvious!)
So relax, and just enjoy the sillyness of the show and laugh your head off!!
by the way I’m Mexican and I have a great sense of humour, too bad you dont! you should just chill out and enjoy!!
and thanks CBS for such funny show!! I LOVE IT!!
Rob’s ratings were high, due to people being curious as to what the show was all about and the hoopla surrounding it, but can’t envision this program lasting much longer and the Firm on NBC is a firm bet for it being cancelled soon.
I guess I can’t comprehend why the people who made “The Firm” don’t understand that it is important to grab the viewers and get them interested. Did they really think I would remember what happened in a movie I saw over a decade ago? They kept shifting back in forth in time to the point that I wasn’t sure what decade I was looking at. I didn’t really know what was going on after about 20 minutes, and my wife was ready to just stop it and delete it from TIVO.
I thought it actually got better after it settled down to a single time frame, but I knew that by then it was too late. Too bad, but I think “The Firm” was dead before it had a chance to get started. What a waste. Why make a show so confusing in the beginning that viewers give up on it before they find out what it is really going to be about?
iRob has a hot lead actress so I’ll watch again. It is stupid but at least it’s not unfunny racist like 2 Broke Girls.
Have not watched THE FIRM on NBC nor do I intend to – the movie was good but what’s left of the story to tell, NBC was stupid to think anyone cared – like the Fugitive, story done, close the books.
NBC should look at alcatraz. what you think is a cliche is not – NBC THE FIRM, the trailer tells you all you need to know. We’re stretching the epilogue to 7 years for syndication, uh, no thanks. Get a clue, NBC.
Comms going both ways all over the place. If you want THE FIRM to be…whatever? It’s not going to. It is what the pilot was about. Tom Cruise got only 2 hours worth of entertaining mileage out of the movie version. And most of it was running. And if there’s enough ratings…it will stay in the mode it currently is. No matter what your DAD says. The prdoco and NBC want enough ratings out of the growing global audience — and not just America. Thank God for that.
How do I even think about ROB?
Didn’t see it because the reviews were just sooo bad.
But, in a growing diversified audience range…with those ratings? Enough are watching it to keep it going for now. Just not me.
