House‘s ratings upswing couldn’t have come at a better time. As conversations between Fox and Universal Television over the future of the veteran medical drama continue, House last night came back strong from a two-month hiatus. Returning to its old Monday 8 PM slot, the series starring Hugh Laurie with Melanie Lynskey as guest drew a 3.1/8 in adults 18-49, up 19% from its last original telecast on November 28. In its regular 9 PM time period debut, new drama Alcatraz (3.0/7) was down 9% from its two-hour premiere last Monday. It matched the second-week fast-national rating for Terra Nova despite starting off higher with a stronger premiere and airing at 9 PM with a lead-in from House vs. a 8 PM berth for Terra Nova. The Fox dramas were helped by CBS, whose formidable Monday lineup was in repeats last night. Also taking advantage of that was ABC’s The Bachelor (2.7/7), up 13% from last week. But Castle (2.1/5) at 10 PM was down 5%. NBC’s Who’s Still Standing (1.7/5) was up 6% from its most recent episode two weeks ago. With a Republican presidential debate airing under the aegis of Rock Center With Brian Williams, the newsmagazine not surprisingly posted its highest ratings ever: The two-hour debate averaged 7.1 million viewers, the second-highest audience for a GOP debate this cycle behind ABC’s December 10 special. Fox (3.0/8, 8.8 million) won the night in 18-49 and total viewers.

New ‘Man Of Steel’ Television Spot #6

Alcatraz is such a great show. Hopefully the cbs comedies won’t hurt it much.
I can see Smash winning the time slot at 10 pm. Both Castle and Hawaii 50 are weak shows and Smash pilot is just amazing.
SMASH is all that? Um…er…hate to burst your bubble, but the worst thing about the pilot is that it wasn’t nearly amazing enough. I was really surprised at how airless, unbelievable, and cliche it was, especially given the creative horsepower behind it. It’s like it was written/conceived by someone whose only ideas of what the Broadway show grind is really like come from the Gawker/NEW YORK magazine site, a couple of theater blogs, and TCM. I’m truly sorry to have to say this because I love musicals; as well, SMASH’s basic idea is terrific. But it’s nowhere near the game-changer NBC needs it to be.
Um, CASTLE was the most watched tv show for Monday in it’s time slot. It has added around 1 million more viewers from where it was last year. So, it is NOT a “weak” show.
Just because you do not like something, doesn’t make it weak in the ratings.
Alcatraz episode last night was great! It felt like a cable show on Fox
Excellent casting, directing & the show just looks awesome
I’m addicted
Personally,I am a huge House fan. Whatever the reason(being back at 8pm , cbs airing repeats,or, fans anxiously tuning in for a new episode after so long) I’m glad it went up & definitely hoping for another season of House.Thank you.
I was more interested in Alcatraz until I found out what it was about.
on Alcatraz… I don’t understand when and where these prisoners are returning. They need to address that stat. And have one of the prisoners join the team… Preferably Jack sylvane from episode one. Would be a great and needed dynamic.
Such a cheap ploy to by Brian Williams and NBC to artificially boost Rock Center’s ratings. Can’t wait to see the drop off next week.
Yeah House!!!
