Two series on the opposite ends of their runs had premieres last night — rookie NBC comedy Are You There, Chelsea and departing CW drama One Tree Hill. The series debut of Chelsea (2.3/6 in adults 18-49, 6.4 million total viewers) did far better than the premiere of NBC’s fall comedy in the Wednesday 8:30 PM slot, Free Agents (1.3/4, 3.9 million), and posted the network’s best 18-49 result in the time period this season. Chelsea also built onto its lead-in, the time-slot premiere of Whitney (2.1/5, 6.1 million), which was down 9% from the debut of Up All Night in the time period in September but up 11% from Whitney‘s most recent Thursday telecast December 8. That is NBC’s best 18-49 result in the Wednesday 8 PM half-hour since October 19. NBC’s relatively good news extended to the 9 PM hour, where Harry’s Law (1.4/3, 8.7 million) featuring Erica Durance as Wonder Woman hit a season high in 18-49 and posted its second-largest audience for the the season. At 10 PM, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (2.0/5, 8.4 million) was up 5% from five weeks ago and also posted its second-largest viewership of the season. NBC should enjoy the decent 8-10 PM numbers this week because next week its shows will face the premiere of Fox’s American Idol. Fox continued to stay dormant this week before the Idol storm with a Mobbed rerun leading to a new Mobbed (1.3/3, up 8% from last week).
ABC (3.2/8, 8.83 million) dominated the night among adults 18-49, winning every half-hour of primetime. The Middle (3.0/9) and Suburgatory (2.9/8) were even with last week, Modern Family (5.1/13, 12.3) was down 11% (9% from its fast national) but still ranked as the highest-rated and most-watched program Wednesday by a mile, Happy Endings (3.1/8) was down 3% (6% from the fast national), and Revenge (2.4/6) was down a tenth.
CBS’ People’s Choice Awards (2.5/7, 8.9 million) was down 7% from last year in 18-49 and was the awards show’s lowest-rated
telecast ever, excluding the WGA strike-impacted 2008 telecast. The special still helped CBS (2.3/6, 8.88 million) edge ABC in total viewers for the night.
The final-season premiere of One Tree Hill (1.74 million viewers, 0.9/2 in 18-49, 1.2/4 in 18-34) at 8 PM posted the series best 18-34 and 18-49 numbers since last February.

Totally devoid of laughs and the laugh track is an anachronism that she would have mocked had her name not been the titular character. Can’t believe she agreed to canned laughter, 3-cam setup and bad sets.
I’m ready for new ‘Law & Order: SVU’, next Wednesday 10/9c folks!
Whitney really showed its potential. As Bob Greenblatt stated last week, it was a strong episode + it really held its own. It improved 2+Million viewers from its last airing and improved slightly in the demos. And its last original episode was in the “desriable” post-Office time slot.
You are delusional. Did you not read in this very article above that Whitney was DOWN 9% from UP All NIght’s Fall premiere? Whereas Chelsea was up from the Fall premiere numbers.. UP… a LOT.
OTH IS ONE OF MT FAVES AN KNOWING THE SERIES IS OVER LEFT ME WITH A TEAR LAST NIGHT LOVE ONE TREE HILL
Truly happy 4 “Harry’s Law” ratings! Hopefully the trend will continue when the show is moved to Sundays. Thank you.
Hands down, the worst television show in the history of television.
Brandon Tartikoff is crawling out of his grave to behead every single executive responsible for tho show.
I have absolutely no idea how this show made it so far…. WHAT HAPPENED TO FOCUS GROUPS?

Are You There, Chelsea… To hold my hair back while I throw up from watching your show?
Wow, who tdoes your research? Chelsea having the best Key Demo for NBC since October, with a 2.3? Except that EVERY SINGLE Episode of The Office did better! NBC is screwed but not THAT screwed, guys. Also why did you compare it to the 2nd Episode of Free Agents (which did a 1.3) and not the Pilot, which did a 2.1. Besides the fact that you really can’t compare a midseason start with a september start it sounds alot like you are trying to color Chelseas pretty lackluster start in a more positiv light.
Way to go ‘One Tree Hill’… I’m going to be really sad when it’s finally gone.
Just shows: screwing your boss to elevate your hack career doesn’t pay. That Chelsea sitcom is too moronic for belief. She plays the sister to her own character. Why? Probably because she’s not funny, can’t act and doesn’t want the blame when the show tanks. The casting makes no sense. When is Chelsea Handler going to finally burn out every possible opportunity before she realizes she’s a cable show hack who’s better suited to playing showrooms at Indian casinos?
You guys need to stop drinking the hater-ade.! Chelsea Handler is the funniest female comedian out there. The pilot introduced us to the characters. Thats how it works. I am confident NBC has a hit on their hands. Solid cast…and some great laughs.
Do you people ever have anything nice to say?? Sorry that your scripts didn’t sell. Keep writing..!
There’s a point where Bob Greenblatt needs to start really being embarassed…and he hit it. What happened to him? his talent? taste? These terrible shows? “Chelsea’ has to be the single WORST show of the season. It made “Work It” look like an Emmy contender…Handler looks stupid in that wig,Pregnant? She looks like they stuck a bowling ball under her shirt…and looks like “trailer trash” as if she’s giving the audience the finger that we’d even buy into this garbage.
Keep in mind, from what I’ve read, all of the pilots at NBC were developed before Bob Greenblatt got to NBC.
Going by Whitney’s standards, last night’s episode was “good”. It was easily their best episode. It’s still one of the worst shows of the season (Man Up was worse, I asume Work It is even worse), but they really did have a nice show last night.
Perhaps Chelsea should start drinking more.. or perhaps her audience should start drinking. the show was horrible and Chelsea can’t act for Sushi. In five years she’ll be playing her self in a lifetime movie about her battle with Vodka and little people.
Are you there, NBC? It’s me, another annoying white woman. Next up, the Roseanne comeback pilot.
NBC is just seriously losing it right now…Whitney and now Chelsea in the same hour? Yeah NBC, that will garner some huge ratings for you on a night they have miserably failed to garner a hit or two on, especially the 8 PM ET hour. Once AI premieres next week on FOX, say good-bye to both Whitney and Chelsea.
Go Chelsea Go!
