American Idol host Ryan Seacrest professed his loyalty to the Fox talent series while keeping coy about his prospects at NBCUniversal, where his producing deal is up this month. (Word is that the new deal for Seacrest, whose current pact is with E!, would include an NBC component.) Seacrest’s contract for Idol, which pays him some $15 million a year, is up at the end of this coming season, and there has been talk that he may be facing a pay cut. “Regarding American Idol, I’ve been part of it for 11 years,” Seacrest said. “I can’t imagine life without Idol.” Seacrest confirmed that he is in negotiations with NBCUniversal about a new deal there but declined to comment whether a potential new pact there would include a gig on NBC’s The Today Show. Seacrest recently met with NBC News executives about the possibility of stepping in for Matt Lauer if Lauer decides to leave the morning show at the end of his contract in December. Seacrest also deflected a question whether he could see himself hosting NBC’s The Voice as part of a new deal with NBCU. “Right now I only see myself hosting American Idol for this season.” Added Fox’s alternative chief Mike Darnell, “We love Ryan. We can’t imagine the show without him and would love to have him as long as he wants to be on the show, which we hope would be forever.”

So funn.
I can TOTALLY imagine my life without Ryan Seacrest.
I’d pay him handsomely to NOT be on TV
Great post Elaine… and so true
I cant imagine that Seacrest is not a cyborg automaton.
Ryan’a life without American Idol would involve saying “Welcome to Walmart.”
What’s that Dunkel guy doing without A.I.
Ryan Dunkleman could be doing just fine without AI. YOU don’t know that and hence you shouldn’t make such foolish comments.
Just because you don’t see people onscreen or in the press doesn’t mean they aren’t doing just fine on their own in the privacy of their own lives.
And at $15 for three years, Ryan can own a Wal-mart.
Say what you want Seacrest haters – the man very, very successfully used his leverage on American Idol and transferred that to a variety of platforms. He was a radio dj now turned successful host, producer and businessman. Say what you will but Seacrest is a hard worker and “go to guy” he took a page from Dick Clark and listened to folks like Larry King. Clark’s best advise to him: have an ownership stack with your own company. Most guys his age would not have taken the reins. Gotta give the guy credit. That said, less of him might be nice – overexposure can happen but he’ll have so much coin it won’t matter then. Prediction: NBCU makes a development deal component with RSP productions; RSP possibly move to Universal lot; Seacrest covers entertainment for Today show; stays on with cash cow Idol, and probably loses the radio show though he loves it. Time will tell. He took the opportunity and ran with it and you haters are kind of foolish looking. He’s a nice guy in a town full of pricks. The dickheads don’t last, the hardworkers do.
While he’s shrewd and ambitious in his career and obviously is smart–you could plug in a robot with just as much charisma. Why would he get paid that ridiculous amount of money is nonsense!NO ONE TUNES IN FOR HIM! If he was off the show there wouldn’t be ONE LESS VIEWER…there is no value added by having him involved…not one iota.(Sidebar-he’s also a dick. Deal with him on a weekly basis and he’s a miserable young success..not to me but frequently to others around me)
He inflicted the Kardashians on the world. He deserves some karma.
I disagree there is some skills involved in keeping a large live television broadcast moving, not many can host like that and do it well. The money of course is ridiculous but so is the amount FBC pulls in with add coin, some of that tune Seacrest has a hand in helping the series. Is he replaceable? Sure, everyone is.
who’ll take his place on E News then?
he means:“I can’t imagine life without $15 million a year. Where do I find other fools paying me all that money?
If Matt Lauer decides to leave “The Today Show”, and should President Obama lose re-election, I can see Lauer staying until Obama’s successor is inaugurated.
