Diane Haithman is contributing to Deadline’s TCA coverage.
At today’s TCA panel on HBO’s movie Game Change, director/executive producer Jay Roach said he tried to get Sarah Palin’s cooperation for the film about the 2008 presidential election, which is based on the book by Mark Halperin and John Heilemann. “On behalf of the (film), I wrote a long letter explaining that I thought it would ‑‑ we would just do better at getting the story right if she would talk to us,” said Roach, also the director of HBO’s Recount, about the 2000 presidential race. “And I got a very quick email back from her attorney saying, ‘I checked. She declines.’ So I took that as, you know, the final answer.” Still, Game Change writer Danny Strong (who also penned Recount) said he was able to interview 25 people connected with the 2008 campaign. He did not get John McCain or his speechwriter Mark Salter but said, “I got everybody else, including people who are not portrayed in the film.”
Strong called Game Change nonpartisan and added that Republican politicians were very receptive to Recount (“James Baker threw us a premiere,” he said). Although the book covers on the entire campaign, including much material on the Obamas, the movie focuses on the McCain-Palin ticket and particularly on the Vice President candidate. Strong and Roach said the choice made sense for the movie because Palin’s rise from political obscurity was one of the great political stories of all time. Julianne Moore plays Palin, Ed Harris plays McCain and Woody Harrelson plays McCain’s campaign chief Steve Schmidt. The actors appeared on the panel today with Strong, while Roach was onscreen via satellite. Moore said she hired a voice coach to help her achieve Palin’s distinct speech patterns. When asked whether playing the controversial politician changed her opinion about the former Alaska governor, Moore said: “I have a profound respect for the historical nature of her candidacy.” Harris said that “my respect and my understanding of Sen. McCain, certainly deepened” after playing him onscreen. Deadpanned Harrelson, an outspoken democrat, about the film’s impact on him: “I’ve became a Republican.”
Roach was asked about the decision to use news footage in the movie. “One was there was no way we’d be able to really achieve the scale of the campaign without relying on archival footage, but we also thought it would be very interesting to see, especially things like the Katie Couric interview or the Anderson Cooper interview interwoven with what we were up to, to connect you to ‑‑ back to what those events actually felt like and how gripping some of those moments were,” he said. “And I really looked forward, actually, to the moment where Julianne Moore, as Sarah Palin, would be watching Tina Fey as Sarah Palin. I thought that would be a very interesting bit of the story.”
During the session, Strong said that the movie’s point is to examine how politics is intersecting with entertainment. “A USA Today story referred to the Republican primaries as American Idol,” he said. “It doesn’t matter, it’s ephemera, you are supposed to forget the next day.” After the panel, Strong told Deadline that the recent Republican debates have set the scene for Game Change to be appreciated. “The debates perfectly express what the film is about — seeing the electoral process become a reality,” he said. “Celebrity is more important than the issues, we wait for the candidates to be voted off the island. I think the 2008 campaign was the birth of that.” Asked whether he would have been as willing to take on a Democrat, Strong said: “Absolutely. I was dying to do the John Edwards movie, but Aaron Sorkin swooped in and bought up the rights.” Here is a new teaser for Game Change, which will be launched tonight before the Season 10 premiere of Real Time With Bill Maher:

Len Amato’s emotional focus in development is so narrow over at HBO these days. He’s a very cynical developer in terms of tone. He’s all about ripped from the headlines but nothing goes that deep.
Plus Julianne is so much uglier than Sarah. Heck Tina Fey and Moore only wish they were as pretty as Sarah. HA HA HA….good luck trying to make Sarah look bad when you can’t hold a candle to her….ugly liberals trying to be a hot God fearing woman!!
That was EXACTLY what I was thinking ! You hit the ugly nail right on the head…Sarah Palin is not just beautiful OUTSIDE, she is a beautiful Woman on the INSIDE and smarter than the average ugly Democrat for sure. The Dems were so afraid that she would be pitted next to the repulsing Hillary “the bit@h” Clinton that they tried everything to get her out of the picture. But all they did was piss her off and she created a political machine to counter to Dems hate machine.
Ha…she didn’t even finish her term in Alaska. She’s a quitter with the intellect of a flea. Anyone who thinks this woman is intelligent is a total and complete moron.
You are an asshole
She only resigned because an excessive number of sham lawsuits against her were bleeding her of her time and she thought it wasn’t fair to Alaskans. Read her book.
Regardless of whether you think she’s smart or not, it shows she had some consideration to do what wasn’t easy because she thought it was the right thing.
You nailed who she is.
She chose to be a public figure, she made her own decisions along the way.
Fair game.
She quit because her salary was $174,000 a year while the defense attorneys were costing $500,000, what would you do? The media crucified her with tales only the morality of the left would think of like the one about her son being the daughters baby and not hers besides why didn’t she abort when she knew it would be a down baby. Cruel would be an insufficient word to describe the media. The sixteen lawyers could not find any crimes and the GOP wiped their feet all over her. It really is amazing what fear will do to people’s opionions about her.
Hello, Drudge readers!
Always exciting to see you!
Hey there, MSDNC watchers!
Always exciting to see you too!
Are you serious?
I’m glad I cancelled my subscription to HBO. This is just another attenpt my the liberal media to do a number on Sarah Palin. When will thes numb-skulls learn that the more you lie and try to bring her down the stronger she gets! Sarah Palin is a rare breed that only comes along every 100 years or so, but you liberals are so blinded by your hate you can’t possibly recognize her outstanding qualities. On second thought your hate is more like a smothering fear because her will not be hurt by this piece of trast, but the liberal cabal will be.
I feel you should compare Sarah Palin to a decent woman like Michelle Obama. MO has done so much to help childhood obesity, and help bring healthy eating to the White House. Sarah Palin has done what-star in a one season reality show?? So maybe you should elect Kate Gosselin president! HAHAHA
Should go good next to Bill Mar spelling on purpose HBO is irrelevant! Keeps jerks lik mar who knows nothing and publickly displays his ignorance every day. Soooo who’s watching?
God – conservatives are just as gullible and stupid as liberals………
You betcha
They are certainly ugly on the inside for enjoying this kind of role.
Sarah Palin was a rising conservative star long before her selection by the GOP for her VP run. There was nothing “obscure” about her strong, principled conservative voice in Alaskan politics. It is unfortunate that the current set of GOP presidential hopefuls lack the passion and the conservative vision that continues to set Sarah apart from the crowd.
So, the point of the movie is to “examine how politics is intersecting with entertainment.” No wonder she declined to participate. That “point” smacks of leftist propaganda.
So much right wing bitterness. Deadline has been hijacked. Palin is famous for coordinated flash mob of comments. Impressive Sarah, and Sarah Pac. Good to know all those donations to the fake political campaign is being put to good use.
Now she is a fallen star.
With a lot of money raised from bumpkins like you.
PALIN IS THE MOST FEARED CONSERVATIVE IN AMERICA AND THAT IS WHY THE FILM
The communist-democrats know she has the power to draw millions of voters, millions in campaign cash, and become the next president. She might even win as a third party candidate because Americans are angry as hell at the Democrat and GOP progressive communists now running our nation into the sewer.
Palin is the American Joan of Arc.
Oh my G-d you are delusional. Joan of Arc. ha haha ha
Are you a comedian?
You are hilarious. Joan of Arch. Still laughing at that!
@teaisstronger
You are seriously an embarrassment. You know that?
“communist-democrats”???? You make yourself look like an idiot. And make other tea party supporters look as dumb as you by your sig.
And “GOP progressive communists”…. wow… it’s not tea your drinking.
LOL still laughing.
WHEN WILL HBO SHOW THEIR JFK FILM SERIES THAT WAS BANNED IN AMERICA BY THE DEMOCRATS AND KENNEDY’S
HBO is a film company of the Democrat National Committee and HBO profits should be included in the campaign contributions of the the DNC.
The filth of the Democrats is clearly seen in everything HBO does.
The series that was banned?
It’s on Netflix.
Maybe so, but “The Path to 9/11″ isn’t.
Why would that be?
Why does the left hate Sarah Palin so much? And Destroy a person who has zero power or influence over them…Because they are AFRAID of her! If they spent 1/100 of the time on Obama as they did with her, she would actually be VP now. The Left’s hatred and mockery of a fine REAL American Woman (I wish all women were like her), makes me like her even more! I would love to see a Romney/Palin ticket…Hope she is the VP candidate again. I voted for Palin, not McClame…
Afraid of her? What exactly is there to be afraid of? Other than the prospect that Scare-a will return to Los Angeles and hit up every boutique for more free swag during Oscar week?
I make jokes about Lindsay Lohan because I’m afraid of her too?
Guess so.
Focuses on Palin and ignores the Edwards? This may be one of the reasons people are dumping their HBO, that and they suck and it’s not worth to extra $ in Obama’s America. How many people has HBO fired to save $?
John Edwards was out of the picture by the time Palin was picked to be VP, and the story of what happened with him didn’t come out until the election was over. It wouldn’t make sense to put it in the movie. Besides, the movie is based on a book about Palin’s role in the 2008 election. That’s why the focus is where it is.
The book actually covers so much more than Palin’s role in the 2008 election. It’s an interesting sliver, but the main focus of the book really is Obama and Hillary. There’s also a portion devoted to Edwards and his wife that’s just as interesting. It deals with the entire campaign, not just Palin’s part in it. It’s a fantastic book and very illuminating and would have made a great movie, but they’re clearly not making that movie. What they made may be good too (I haven’t seen the movie yet) but it appears that the filmmakers have chosen to just take the Palin portion which is in many ways unfortunate. In their defense, they probably could have done a great mini-series with this material a few more years down the road – I think it would be very difficult to portray a sitting president so soon after these events. Plus, Palin is constantly in the public eye – It’s going to be hard to not compare Julianne Moore to Tina Fey. But in short, it’s almost as we’ll be seeing the “episode” had there been a mini-series that deals with Palin. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a fascinating part of the book as well. But it’s just a part and I fear that the way it appears they’ve chosen to adapt the book will pretty much prove a lot of the right’s complaints about the left leaning media which is a shame. It’s a fantastic book. Do yourself a favor and read it as a companion to the movie and you’ll find the whole election was a game changer, not just Palin’s involvement.
Aren’t you guys tired of making up stories about Gov Palin? Why tell the truth? She had the best track record of running a state fr\or two years. She created a rainy day fund of $1 billion, gave each resident in Alaska a $1200 check for profits off the Northern Slope pipeline. Witin 24 hours of announicing her candicy hundereds of lawyers fly into Anchorage to dig up fales stories about her. One month after the election her home church gets fired bombed and sh has 15 frivolous lawsuitsfiled against her. She could not do her duties as a Governor. She didn’t liove in the Governor’s mansion nor did she use the executiove plane. She had integrity and brains that are missing from today’s leaders. Why not a movie about Obama? No record of college transcripts, no record of a job. He sat in Rev Racist Wright’s church for 20 years. He uncovered Jack Ryan’s divorce records to force him out of the 2004 Senate race. He grew up in a radical Muslim country of Indonesia. Now he ran up $6 trillion in debt and our country is destroyed. Now there’s something for a movie…..the most tragic movie of all time. You Hollywood cowards are the worst
The $6 trillion does count the $4 billion that Bush ran up in Iraq and Afghanistan, right?
Bush wrecked the country…people like you are just peeing on the ashes.
Um, actually Edwards was known to be a cad for a while by that point. At least by media not as partisan as NBC, who refused to cover it. Its no surprise the principles depicted in the film wouldn’t want to participate in the production. It was a hit piece from the start.
Gee, and WHY didn’t “the story of what happened with him” come out until LONG after he was out of the picture?
The total transformation of the “mainstream” media into nothing more than a propaganda arm of the Democrat Party that Alex was alluding to in his original post.
dont pretend it didnt come out until long after the film because it hadnt happened yet, it didnt come out because the media ignore edwards affair and love child because they wanted to hurt republicans only, we need to turn on the media, from comedies to just about everything because if you listen they get anti republican digs in all the time, when it should be just about entertainment.
Actually Edward’s misdeeds were known as far back as his family’s appearance on Oprah’s show. Like most MSM media, including Hollyweird, sexual infidelity only makes news when it’s a conservative.
actually, Edwards WAS in the picture. He was busted giving his ho cash illegally, but was denying it. And the Lamestream media was ignoring the story from the National Enquirer claiming they were just a tabloid…funny how a “tabloid” upstaged ALL the lamestream media in print, radio, and TV. This is the typical problem they have, to get to their goal of Socializing the world, they don’t let the truth get in the way. “The end justifies the means”..
youre missing the point, he was trying to point out if this is such a strong story for a movie then how come nothing about the edwards or bill clintons affairs ever gets to the big screen. Its an attack movie during the election year to make fun of republicans, when you have plenty of democrats to make fun of like bill and hillary, the edwards, barney fwank, and yes i spelled it like that on purpose. how about al sharpton and the twana brawley fake rape story…geesh, hollywood sucks
The article didn’t talk about putting Edwards into this movie. It was inquiring about whether another movie ABOUT Edwards might be made.
Hollywood making a movie mocking a Democrat? Fat chance.
lol. Please return to the Drudge Report.
lol. Please return to MSDNC.
MSNBC is not a wholly owned/operated division of the DNC, but just another corporate-owned entity exploiting an empty audience niche for profit.
Unlike Fox, which IS a wholly-owned and operated media (propaganda)outlet of the Republican party, existing ONLY for the purpose of brainwashing uneducated, gullible Americans into voting against their own best interests, ensuring their wealthy patrons will maintain control of the political power that enables them to shape the country’s laws in ways that will make their theft of your money absolutely legal.
The existence of a vast “liberal media” is a myth made up by Republicans as a preemptive blow against any actual truth that might make its way out into the world, and expand one of the small, deluded minds Republican success depends on.
One wonders if you ever tire of being used, or being made a public fool of?
Funny I was wondering who the real fool is? I’m thinking it’s you.
Elle,
Do You really think MSNBC is not as left as Fox is right? Fox is the only outlet not dedicated to Liberal craziness. Our country is a conservative nation. Unless of course you think the Occupy movement represents over 10% of the US.
You, however, come across as a more educated person. Your liberal über educated friends, however, would kick you off your fantasy island for ending your sentence with ‘of’.
Elle,
I hope you’re just playing dumb. You seriously can’t be that obtuse.
I guess you’d be the expert on the residual side effects of brainwashing.
You are truly drinking the DNC Koolaide by the gallon!
“gullible Americans into voting against their own best interests”. I am so tired of that condescending liberal bent, but let me try to address that line. The mindset that you vote for your own best interests is why about half of this country pays no federal income tax. Is it in the interests of the non-taxpaying half to raise taxes on everyone else? Heck yeah. So the natural conclusion is where we’re at today with the top 5% of taxpayers paying close to half the country’s bills. We conservatives don’t vote for people who want to lower taxes because Fox tells us to – we vote for those that support a tax system we think is fair to everyone.
It is funny to read this story. It is written as if it will be an honest look at Palin, when we all know it will be a “democrats rule, republicans drool. and Palin is the worst of the lot” story.
HBO wouldn’t know honest if it stepped in it.
All the cable companies are corporate first and ideological second. They give their niche audiences what they want to see. Fox has larger audiences because more conservatives care about the political direction of the country.
Speaking of “uneducated and gullible”……..hello Elle.
Ummm…your tinfoil hat has slipped off a bit.
Dear Elle, You must be like 20 something tobe so skewed in your thinking. Fox is what would historically be known as moderate, and the major networks as left wing propaganda machines. If you want to see how far the entire country has moved left and how far off your assessment is, go read or better yet listen to John Kennedy’s inaugural speech. He was a liberal in his day. Now he makes Newt and all the Repubs look like liberals.
“against their own best interests”.
Give me one reason why anyone is entitled to another person’s money/belongings/time.
If you come up with a reason, let me know, I’ll come and take yours.
This is a hit piece and you know it. If Sarah was a liberal, she’d be portrayed as the smartest woman in the world, a breath of fresh air, she’d be president by now. you know it’s true.
About your opinion about FOX, considering it illuminates free enterprize, and capitalism. They offer opinions shared by millions and a product still very much in demand “unbiased non-obama-leg-humping media.) Supply and demand, unlike the rest fawning over Oblabla EVEN STILL!!!
The positive coverage and bias towards candidate Obama vs candidate McCain in the last election cycle is well documented ad nauseum. For bonus points perhaps you can tell me how many times the New York Times has endorsed a Republican candidate in the general election over a Democrat in the modern age since 1950?
Wow! If you were part of Jim Jones’ followers you would have drank the cool aid too! It’s so typical of Liberals to deny a leftist media and in the same breath say that Fox news is the mouthpiece of the Right. There are just so many examples I can site regarding mainstreams media one sided coverage but space doesn’t allow me.
Let’s take one example from the “non bias” media as you have so gallantly attempted protect. Remember
Dan Rather’s report regarding George Bush’s army reserve record? Which was reported within weeks of the election? Do you remember the outcome of that story? I’m sure you conveniently forgot, Dan Rather was forced to leave because the story was made up, NOT TRUE! Facts were made up, Heads rolled at CBS. So much for impartiality in the mainstream media. Can you site one PROVEN story that Fox news reported that was made up like the example I gave you? It’s the Liberal drones like yourself that elect people like our current
President, please don’t vote this year, and I will except your thanks in advance for the Conservatives who will elect a true President who loves America, and will restore this great country back from the brink of disaster. How’s the Liberals favorite countries in Europe doing? You know the ones you Liberals always tell the rest of America we need to be more like. They are BROKE!! Just like we will be under another four years with this President
keep drinking the kool aid- you most likely have never even watched fox news, but you have depended on maddow, schultz, and olberman for your thoughts. try to read a little and go to some other sites besides thinkprogress.com and moveon.org. Really wholly owned? lol, what a sophomoric observation
Various programs on Fox News point out examples of liberal media bias every day. If you watch MSNBC you will have no way of knowing this because it is impossible to know what they are not telling you. The best example recently was the liberal media foot-dragging on covering “Fast and Furious”.
Although CNN still leans to the left, it has actually changed and is now watchable, although it could be I am just mesmerized by Erin’s beautiful blue eyes.
MSNBC is brutal on conservatives. Spend 1 night and you will why no one watches. The Factor, Greta, Five etc on Fox at least try to give both opinions but dont sweep anything negative to Obama aside like the other media outlets do. Thats why the trust factor is higher for Foxnews.
Is there left wing bias in the media? Absolutely. I’m in the media. I’ve seen it with my own two eyes. So-called journalists asking “how do we insure that the public has the information they “need to know”?” when it is not the place of the journalist to determine what people “need to know”! It is the place of the journalist to report fairly down the middle, speak truth to power and let the public decide.
This is the part Fox gets, and few others. Having said that, I won’t argue that Fox is as right as MSNBC is left. But, once you understand that there is a big difference between news reporters and news commentators, Fox’s news is a pretty much down the middle. The problem is: most of the anchors and reporters on MSNBC are either thinking, or being told to think they are commentators. Thus, they take liberties offering their opinions which most real journalists are not supposed to do.
A recent Gallup Poll shows 40 percent of the country identifies themselves as conservatives, 21 percent identifies as liberals with the rest in the middle as independents. If you look at the TV cable news ratings, Fox generally holds about a 2 to 1 advantage over the MSNBC programs…which correlates to the Gallup Poll’s findings (if you consider that most of the independents are probably the people watching the alphabet nets and PBS. So, did NBC make a huge tactical and financial mistake leaning MSNBC to the smallest piece of the audience pie? Were I a stockholder, I might ask that question.
first of all your such a freaking hypocrite, fox being an arm of the republican party is a joke, they have commentators that are anti republican, name one on MSNBC that is anti democrat, you cant watch MSNBC or CNN without noticing the bias against republicans. What you pathetic non american liberals want to do when not sucking on the tit of the socialist nanny state is attack any news organization that is not following your agenda. Your favorite thing to do is accuse FOX of a bias when you yourselves are close minded narrow minded bigots who dont accept anyones point of view other than your own. Your sad, your lazy and you are no different than the taliban or any terrorists, no view but your own.
….and now you’ll try to convince us the hits you taking on that doobie is for medicinal purposes only……hahahahahaha!!!!
Well, pardon me! Deep breath folks! Ya’ll all sound like hyperventilating hillbillies. (Did I disturb a trailer-park barbecue? Ya’ll grillin’ coon or possum?)
I personally believe the next world war will be a battle between brains and brawn, a fight to settle, for once and for all, whether the hominid specie Homo sapiens sapiens truly deserves the label “intelligent life.”
You all have completely convinced me “brains” will have no problem winning that one.
I’m a life long Democrat and can comfortably say that MSNBC is left of center. I watch it because a lot of what is said there is what I basically agree with, but come on… it is definitely left-leaning. On the other hand, Fox does lean right. They are the extremes.
The media at large are, I believe, left at heart and do a poor job trying to hide it. Like I said, I don’t mind it politically, but just the recent example of Stephanopoulos’ hatchet job at the recent Republican debate kind of proves what a lot of Americans feel: the majority of news coverage in the U.S. is slanted left.
I’m just being honest.
Elle, please cite your source for Fox being owned by the RNC. Also, the real point of this movie is to take more jabs at Gov. Palin regardless of what you and the media elite say. I realize that Gov. Palin was an integral figure in the 2008 election, but so was Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers, and John Edwards. Where are they in this movie?
LOL. You mean the same MSNBC owned by GE Corp who pays no tax in the US due to loopholes and “green” subsidies, government welfare? That MSNBC? The one whose owner,Jeff Immelt of GE sits on Obama’s Economic Advisory Board yet sends their jobs overseas and pays 2 mil in taxes to China? Bet you’ve never researched Fox and where the money comes from, have you? Much easier to quote Media Matters I guess.
Drudge does but collate and overview the lastest. To castigate him (or Fox) implies that you are not really all that well informed. A bonified Tea Bagging (Thanks…Anderson) bitter-clinger (Thanks… Dear Leader) I am…but I really miss Keith. He greatly expanded my perspective on normal.
ELK (USNA ’68 and SWBTS ’86)
at least on drudge its reported fairly and not a bunch of lies and suck up distortions like on cnn, huffington toilet paper post, or any of the other SO CALLED rags you liberals call honest.
A movie on Edwards. That’s a great idea! The downfall and the close call the criminal came to being President would be a great storyline.
Don’t hold your breath, until MSNBC does an “Edwards” movie, or HBO!!!
Me too – long ago.
~(Ä)~
….why would Game Change feature John Edwards? He wasn’t the VP candidate in 2008. I think you exposed the REAL reason why people are “dumping” HBO: lack of mental capacity to understand their broadcasts. I guess its “Blue Collar Comedy Tour” on your tube tonight!!!
Yeah! That’s it, HBO’s too “heady” for most people. Actually Working people who actually pay for HBO are smart enough to realize it’s not worth the money. That’s why the intellectuals who populate our prison’s and fleabag hotels are HBO’s the largest audience…because it’s free. And we all know how the Libs love free stuff!
where is the movie on hillarys rise from nothing, bills affairs, her taking items from the white house that didnt belong to them or trying to design healthcare even though she wasnt in politics yet? How she and stephanopolis forced bills accusers into bankruptcy as one of their husbands was dying. Hmm yeah movie ideas there, i am sick and damn tired of these hollywood types pretending to make movies that are only against republicans, making their views obvious and abusing their craft. and yes John edwards corruption trial, his mistress. We need to send a message to hollywood, by hitting their wallets, spend more game nights with family and less pouring money into hollywood. BOYCOTT HOLLYWOOD and ESPECIALLY HBO!!!!!
“Ms Palin was, and still is, a profoundly uninformed and ill-suited. candidate for national office.
The disastrous Couric and Gibson interviews were precise bellweathers of her ignorance.
Bill Kristol rightly advised her after the loss in 2008 to go back to Alaska, get the job done as Governor, and study up on issues.
She did nothing of the kind, resigned a few months later, and then claimed she didn’t actually quit.
Ms Palin is also a fanatic religious idealogue, with few qualities that would commend her to lead a nation so divided on deadly serious matters of policy and economics in a perilous world.
Mouthing platitudes, being divisive, and bomb throwing at Tea rallies is easy. Presidents have to lead and relate to all Americans to be any good at it, which is beyond Sarah’s skill set.
When touring in the Carolina’s, she was quoted as saying “It’s good to be here with real Americans”
That one comment is nothing but xenophobia dissing everyone who’s not a white christian”
Not that I’m a Palin fan, but did anyone really expect her to cooperate on a feature length hit piece?
Palin was wise to stay away from this. What the producer would have done was take her input, ignore it all and then say she was a “contributor” anyway in order to make it seem she helped them make her look like a fool.
I for one am getting sick of the one-sided mindset of Hollywood jack@sses. They do this to anyone that doesn’t follow their talking points.
Your comment is right on, beat me to it. Conservatives and Libertarians should boycott the Hollywood/Media Establishment to the point of not attending debates where the MSM pose as impartial moderators. We should not attend or watch MSM news shows or movies of a political nature where the bias exists to promulgate their world view. They need to be punished economically with fewer viewers. We need enterprising entrepreneurs to create new outlets and systems (movies, networks, television shows, websites, organizations, infiltration of nonprofit boards) to counter the Leftist propaganda machine to produce movies and television that are in sync with our views of individual freedom. Punish them economically, there are more of us than there are of them. Spread the word, let their ratings and ad revenue tank. And to quote the President, let’s “get in their face” individually and collectively, including your neighbors, at school meetings, and every venue where collectivists congregate to pierce their massive groupthink.
Just offer her more $$$$ and complete control over content and she’s on board I betcha.
So now we equate John Edwards to Sarah Palin. Tell me again that there is no bias in Hollywood.
I was just thinking the same thing. The liberal trolls have such a hatred for a made-in-America success story that they just simply cannot stand it.
HBO can make any film that they want. It’ll surely be a late night hit to the Left after MSNBC goes dark and Letterman signs off the air. Otherwise? Insignificant, hypocritical (at the very least) and more proof of why these piously venemous people must be extricated from our everyday lives.
Edwards vs. Sarah Palin, indeed.
I am going to drop HBO.you are not fair,,,you are all lib’s who like obama show the first lady who hates AMERICA,,, show that HBO…
The first lady doesn’t hate America. If you want to start solving some of this country’s problems, you can start by not saying people “hate the country” just because you disagree with their policies. This goes for all of us by the way.
Michelle Obama: “For the First Time in My Adult Lifetime, I’m Really Proud of My Country”
Connect the dots, bozo.
Just wondering when conservatives get to do a mockudrama on the Obamas… Oh yeah, I forgot, it’d get squashed at the idea stage. :/ Whatever. Another film in a long line of films that prove the liberal media bias. Go ahead, open up with both barrels. Prove the conservative point.
He’s not saying it – - SHE said it – - or don’t libs care to remember the dumb (Obama referring to the 57 states) and awkward (“for the first time, I’m proud of my country” Mooshell) statements from Dear Leader and Leaderette?
Did she or did she not say (twice) that for the first time in her adult life she was proud of her country? Ok, she didn’t say she “hated” it but she is certainly on record as being ashamed of it. Plus if you can stomach reading her senior thesis, she whined about the “problem” of successful black people who do so by becoming more “white.” So, yes, I do think it is a problem to have a First Lady who only became proud of her country when her husband won and election when she was 45 year old or so…What surprises me is that you seem to defend this attitude in her.
My whole life I have been proud of being an American. Funny that.
“For the first time in my life, I am proud of my country”…..I wonder who said that? If it walks like a duck,……oh, never mind believe whatever pablum the media feeds you.
Disagree with the policies of this administration and you are labeled a RACIST. I’m not calming down, I’m just getting fired up. To paraphrase the First Lady’s minister, The Reverend Jeremiah Wright … “God Damn America!” and “The Chickens Have Come Home — To Rooooost”. The First Lady no doubt agrees, as her husband’s nomination was “the first time in my adult life I was proud of my county.” Give the First Lady a permanent vacation to Hawaii, this time not at taxpayer expense.
I’m just trying to get this straight:
You’re saying Michelle Obama hates America because she wasn’t proud of the country as an adult until recently? So, conversely, does that mean that all the people that are currently not proud of the country hate the United States of America? Pride and love are two different things, my friend.
I’ve heard a lot of criticism about the country from Republicans recently so does that mean that the Republicans hate the United States? I have to say it’s pretty strong language to suggest that the Republicans hate the United States of America.
Disagree with policy as much as you like, there’s plenty to criticize. This administration needs constructive opposition on the real issues. Questioning how much they love the country and who’s more patriotic and who is or isn’t a socialist is complete nonsense.
Can we just agree that everyone loves the place, but God knows we’re not above embarrassment.
Anytime someone criticizes this Administration on anything they are villified. So, please explain how we SHOULD constructively criticize this President and Administration.
You know – if you’re going to say that anyone who disagrees with your personal politics “hates America” – it might help your argument if you could learn to SPELL YOUR OWN LANGUAGE AND LEARN HOW TO CONSTRUCT SENTENCES.
@Mark PLease poitn out the proper use of the hyphen in a properly constructed sentence and how do you know what “their language” is? I guess we’ll just have to conclude that you’re a loud mouthed idiot and move on. Your skills certainly didn’t help your argument.
Have a great idea for HBO. A 2-3 hour documantry (If you could fit it in that time frame) on ALL the connections the Obama’s had/have in the Chicago “sesspool”, including Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers, the guy who sold the property to him, from next door (Forget his name, but he’s now in jail) How he screwed the lady who was running against him for his state senate seat (Maybe it was the “national” seat—not sure??) If it was truly researhed, I don’t think you could fit it into only 2-3 hours. In 20-30 years, when some of this background eventually leaks out, people will be scratching there head, saying, “were we nuts” ????
HBO has become a Democrat House Organ, what with Bill Maher and their various other shenanigans.
What about John Edwards? He is under investigation (or should I say whitewash?) for misappropriation of campaign funds, after cheating on his terminally ill wife. Oops, no story there! It’s a Democrat!!
I’m an HBO subscriber, but with much of their content now available from various sources, I’m considering cancellation.
You are completely right, John Edwards’ story would only have been a good hit-piece movie if he had been a Republican.
Seriously – what is it with you right wingers? Why don’t you READ THE ARTICLES that you comment under?
It PLAINLY STATES that they WANTED to do Edwards’ story, but Aaron Sorkin has the RIGHTS to it.
Not to mention, nobody KNEW about the Edwards scandal during the 2008 campaign.
Good lord, READ.
You are funny. Yeah, I am holding my breath for Aaron Sorkin to do a hit piece on Edwards. My bet is that he bought the rights and will sit on them. Never will be an Edwards film made by Sorkin or HBO – unless it rewrites history as favorable to Dems as I am sure the Palin film will do.
Funny that whenever the liberal media do these Biography shows on liberals they always use actors to portray the subject who are more physically attractive then the subject. Obviously not true when the story is about a conservative.
Not the case here either or with Tina Fey, Palin is one hot grandmother much more attractive then these two.
Um. They got JULIANNE MOORE.
Hello?
Besides, what is all this “liberal media” stuff? The WORST ATTACKS AND CRITICISMS ON PALIN CAME FROM REPUBLICANS AND HER OWN INNER CIRCLE OF CONSERVATIVES.
Just a small correction to your rant. It wasn’t conservatives who criticized and attacked Sarah Palin. It was the progressive liberals and establishment Republicans. They despise Sarah because, in her public service career, she fought against the graft and corruption of the good old boy party and a few of them ended up in jail. As a Tea Party member I admire Sarah for her strength and devotion to God, family, and country. She is the embodiment of conservative values.
First two comments are spot on, however I would not relagate blame to only one guy in development. If you worked in corporate at HBO like me, you would know many sit in that room sharing these ideas for long periods of time. Without a doubt, HBO is staffed with uber-progressive socialists and they have been thriving because they’ve thrown money at Oscar winners since the 1990s.
Hopefully prior to Jan. 2013, Obama will come to his senses and take possession over at HBO and then merge it with Oprah’s network. That way they can all go and invade Cuba, creating their utopian paradise with new low-wage studio workers. Maybe then Comcast will finally grow a pair and get to restructuring NBC top to bottom.
HBO is a dying idea, and the more it continues to alienate a segment of society with it’s ideological intent and hackery, the quicker HBO will go the way of the printed media. Hollywood needs to grow up.
Um. HBO is the number ONE cable network, sparky. By a long shot.
More people watch HBO than watch Faux News.
You should really get out of your little bubble of fantasy that Faux News keeps you in. The latest study showed that people who watch Faux News know less about current events than those who don’t even watch any news at ALL.
can you post that study sparky? doubt it because it does not exist. Just keep making stuff until november
Um – you have no idea what you are talking about. HBO is the highest rated PREMIUM channel on cable/satellite (at $16 per
month or so) and is delivered to a fraction of homes that the news channels (CNN, MSNBC, FOX, CNBC) are delivered to across the country on the basic tiers. So all the news channels reach probably 90M homes or so through the core basic channel lineup – HBO not even half that figure. More people watch FOX News (as the highest rated news network among those I mentioned delivered to the masses) versus premium HBO by a LONGSHOT). So please be quiet Mark. Love your ‘Sparky’ comment as if to imply that you have a clue what you are spouting off about.
To Mark and JoetheFilmmaker:
HBO merging with Oprah simply ices an already rancid cake. As for Fox, it has become far less conservative since Beck left and started his online network. Try stomaching Shep Smith for yourself. Fox New York is infamously run by Left-leaning types.
I am conservative. I don’t trust or watch news anymore, as it’s propaganda. The original big 3 networks are dead to me and have been for a long time.
My conservative dollars spend, too, and they don’t go to HBO or any movie–big screen or TV–with a communist/Left cast and/or message.
But then, I am just a poor lil ol’ country boy who don’t know nothin. Right?
A bunch of liberals making a movie about a conservative and they say it will be “nonpartisan”….what a croc…can you say liar, liar, pants on fire
Liar, liar, Volt’s on fire may be more appropriate for liberals, Paul.
This is one of the reasons I am glad that I have already dropped HBO. The other is the lies and vitriol of the athiest Bill Maher.I hope HBO viewership dries up.
I’m an atheist — and Bill Maher is a sneaky, lying sack of shxt. Christians and real Jews are a lot better than he is.
You are so ridiculous. Don’t attack someone for being an atheist. If you don’t like HBO, that’s fine; however, don’t attack someone on the religious (or lack of) religious beliefs.
Bill Maher does just that on a regular basis, you twit.
Why all the vitriol over Bill Maher? He is a provocateur–it’s what he does for a living.
Well, for one thing, the fact that Game Change is set to air immediately before Bill Maher’s show to bring in his viewers: That tells you that Game Change is not just going to be a hit piece, but a particularly nasty hit piece, and not one that’s particularly fastidious with regard to fact vs. fiction.
So, you’re saying that Maher’s atheism has nothing to do with his POV on all things Palin?
My, but you are an acolyte!
I can’t stand Bill Maher, so I don’t watch him. He actually gives me the heebie jeebies. But, I love “Boardwalk Empire”, “True Blood”, and “Game of Thrones”, so I’ll be sticking with HBO.
At least Moore has the sex appeal that approaches the Alaskan Fox, unlike that hack from SNL. Harris may be excellent at channeling McCain. That will be worth a look. Harrelson strikes me as a Kool-Aid drinker from way back but playing the part of that sleaze may be right up his alley. I suspect it’ll be a predictable ho-hum hatchet job. For those possessing some intellectual curiosity, a good counter point I recommend you watch on Netfix or Time-Warner is the “Undefeated”, an openly pro-documentary of Palin’s journey. Learn how she earned the highest approval ratings of any governor in US history since modern polling has existed. Its called guts, leadership and integrity.
Thanks, Buster! I needed a good laugh.
hey buster…..when the fool hears the truth they laugh…..otherwise they wouldn’t be called fools!
Saying “Harrelson is an outspoken democrat”, is like saying his daddy, Charles Harrelson, had a slight disagreement with Judge John H. Wood in San Antonio.
Harrelson is anathema to any conservative thought and easily rivals other lib Hollywood famous…S.Penn, D. Glover, B. Maher, et al.
You see Buster, this is exactly why Gov Palin can never run and win for President. For every supporter ( fan) she has she has two people that dislike and/or hate her.
She may have accomplished a lot during her 2 years as Gov and she may have energized the base when she ran for VP but her reputation is not good with the general public.
If I were her I would continue raking in the $$ at her gig, enjoy life and sit on the sidelines being a queen maker.
Low. I guess I’ll be forced to cancel my HBO as well.
I think it’s fascinating how you right wingers instantly just cancel or attack or censor, etc. anything that challenges your beliefs or has a different opinion than you.
Seriously – HBO makes a single movie – based on insider information FROM REPUBLICANS – a SINGLE MOVIE – and you decide not to not watch it – no, that would be too adult of you – but to just cancel the entire network off your television.
No wonder you people never know anything that Faux News doesn’t tell you.
You’re literally FRIGHTENED of anything that doesn’t tell you what you want to hear.
For example – are you even AWARE that the most heinous attacks on Palin’s DUMBFOUNDING stupidity, viciousness and arrogance – came from the CONSERVATIVES AND REPUBLICANS WHO WORKED WITH HER ON THE CAMPAIGN? The woman was just fined millions for ethics violations – it was in the news last week. Do you even KNOW that? I mean, good lord, I’m a Democrat, but at least I ADMIT when a member of my party screws up – you guys just pretend that nobody in your party has ever done anything wrong. And seriously? You’re STILL defending this DUMBFOUNDINGLY stupid person? Do you know that she KEPT all of the money that she took from “supporters” after teasing them that she was going to run for president this year? And how would you have reacted if a Democrat had QUIT in the middle of their only term as governor of a tiny state? She’s a failed reality show host for God’s sake. Honestly, in all seriousness – I’m not kidding – WHY are you defending this person? She doesn’t care about YOU – how could you possibly think she does? She’s a FAILED CELEBRITY who doesn’t even know BASIC MATH or what’s happening ANYWHERE – I mean, sure, okay, she’s a “conservative”, but so what? Is that really all that matters to you people? WOW.
She was never fined or found guilty of any of the ethics violations lodged against her. Every allegation was investigated by the state of Alaska and she was exonerated of every one (including wearing a name brand jacket to a snowmobile race). The state of Alaska was spending millions of dollars defending her (since that’s a part of their constitution). That’s the reason she resigned her governorship, to save the citizens of Alaska money from constant legal assaults. Wow, you are a true believer of the worst kind. A real, live ObamaZombie.
Palin was made to reimburse the state for the money spent on airfare for her kids, flying them to and from Juneau or wherever she was going whenever she wanted to. No other executive in government drags their kids onstage with them everywhere they go. Palin uses them as a shield.
The state was NOT spending millions of dollars defending her. They were using attorneys who were already on retainer. Palin LIED about everything, including the Branchflower report where she was found guilty of violating ethics.
Her legal defense fund was found to be illegal and she was made to return the money she collected. However, she collected plenty of money after that, including from the RNC, to pay her legal bills despite her multi-millionaire status.
Palin’s most expensive ethics violation was the one she filed against herself! She did that so her very own self-appointed personnel board would be making the determination as to guilt. What a system!
She left the governorship to make money and if you believe anything differently, Palin has a “bridge to nowhere” she’ll be happy to sell you.
“(Palin)’s a ‘conservative’, but so what? Is that really all that matters to you people?”
Yes. It is. God, country and family.
Period.
Hollywood actresses portraying politicians are usually more attractive to look upon than the people they depict.
Not this time!
What a bunch of losers at HBO. “Recount” movie was a loser that about 100 people watched. Happy to predict this will be another loser – maybe 200 people will watch. People are on to the lying hack game the libs and Hollywood play.
loser? it won multiple emmies, a golden globe, a dga award and a wga award….
words have meanings… deliberately deceiving people by misususing a word like “loser” puts a serious dent in your credibility… i’ll assume you’re doing the best you can…. but there are support groups you can join to help cure obsessive dishonesty…
Well, there is no doubt why people are dumping HBO when they are netorious for doing hack jobs this this. I just cancelled my HBO subscription. I know thats not much, but I am hoping it will make a point. Your good a movies, stay out of politics
not only will i never subscribe to hbo, i will never see a julienne moore pic…the only one i saw was some stupid movie with burt reynolds about making porno…it was a 1990s pic and it stunk…
Self-affirmation for weak-minded liberals, it has no other redeeming value.
Not at all surprised. Sorkin, producer of “The West Wing”, snatched up the rights to keep it from seeing the light of day.
LMAO Saying “Sarah Palin Turned Down Chance To Cooperate On HBO’s ‘Game Change’” would be akin to saying the chicken refused to help the den of wolves prepare diner.
Sigh… why? Why does the media feel the need to obsess over her? Have you never heard the phrase “Feed the pig?” We get it, she was a horrible politician and a sham of a human being, now can we please for the love of Christ and everything that is good and holy STOP TALKING ABOUT HER?!
Hollywood, find a new punching bag, and let her go the way of Cato, Paris, and every other 15-minutes-of-fame whore.
Because show business is a single party town, sort of like CA. And the Soviet Union. And China.
What has happened to dumocrats, addressing a happily married extraordinary beautiful woman, a Whore. Please, empty vessels make the most sound. Disgraceful, for a supposedly adult writer. Shame on you. Question,,,would you speak that way in the presence of your Mother ????
Uh…you do know that she was extremely successful at everything she did, long before national fame, that she was historically the most popular governor EVER in modern polling. But for liberals, that counts for nothing,I realize. Failure is a resume enhancer for Libs, just as long as the group think is correct.
PDS,Palin Derangement Syndrome, among Liberals continues even though she holds no office and is not running for anything. They are pathetic. Go back to your OWS enclave.
I haven’t subscribed to HBO since that atheist Maher started ragging on George Bush. HBO is no longer funny. They are just ignorant and mean. I sincerely hope they go friggin’ broke.
Thats a shame. Because the athiest Maher is hilarious. And his ragging on George Dumya Bush was well deserved.
Not! Maher isnt funny he is just an obnoxious sarcastic left wing loon.
Just as a piece of entertainment, who will this appeal to?
