EXCLUSIVE: Horrible Bosses helmer Seth Gordon is re-teaming with Jason Bateman On Identity Theft, the Universal comedy that will star Bateman and Melissa McCarthy. The script was originated by Jerry Eeten, and then rewritten by Steve Conrad and then Craig Mazin rewrote. Bateman and Scott Stuber are producing and Peter Morgan is exec producer. The premise was originally for a guy whose identity is stolen by another guy, and it was written for Bateman and another actor. That changed after Bateman saw McCarthy’s-scene stealing performance in last summer’s hit Universal comedy Bridesmaids and he pushed for her to be the identity thief.

Thanks to that film, her Emmy- winning work in Mike & Molly and her memorable physical comedy work hosting Saturday Night Live, McCarthy’s become the brightest female physical comedy star to come along in years. The WME-repped Gordon made his mark with the 2007 documentary The King Of Kong, and he’s separately attached to direct the remake of War Games. And Horrible Bosses grossed $209 million worldwide. He’s managed by Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

Nice to see talented people get to work with other talented people!
original screenplay by Jerry Eeten!!!!!
Jerry’s right… Though I would suggest that he not sign his name to these reminders. It’s a bit unseemly. This is what success looks like – just go with the flow, J, or use a better alias. You seem outraged and nobody’s shot a frame yet.
Conrad’s script was a blast. Haven’t read the Mazin rewrite yet; the McCarthy casting is genius.
How are studios hiring this guy to direct? Go look at everyone of his films. The directing is always the weakest part. But he keeps failing upward
I’ve been a fan of Melissa’s ever since I first saw her in ‘Gilmore Girls,’ a hundred years ago. She is an extremely talented, nimble and likeable performer. She also seems – shock! horror! – like a genuinely nice person. It’s a shame to see her wasted in the unfunny sitcom M&M, but she has a stellar career ahead. I’m excited to see ‘Identity Theft.’
Awesome! Can’t wait to see Melissa in more movies!
wonder if seth gordon will still direct Only Living Boy in New York with Logan Lerman and Olivia Wilde
“McCarthy’s become the brightest female physical comedy star to come along in years” — Kristen Wiig is on notice. She better bulk-up or she is yesterday’s news.
ur comment is weird. is it that mccarthy is good or that shes going to make wiig disappear if wiig doesn’t compete with mccarthy…just weird. no real point, based on false assumptions and non-existant competition.
I’ll draw you a picture next time.
I can’t believe people are just now beginning to see Melissa McCarthy’s brilliance in comedy. Her character in “Samantha Who?” was uproariously hilarious.
Go Missy!!!!

So this basically says McCarthy isn’t actually funny, but relies on her heft to generate humour. Agreed 100%, but what a slap in the face!
