UPDATE: Well, it didn’t take long for the other shoe to drop. Shortly after it confirmed Steve Jones’ departure as host, Fox also confirmed the departure of Nicole Scherzinger as a judge. The two, originally paired as co-hosts, had been considered the weakest links and the most likely casualties going into Season 2. I hear that both were axed and would like to give Jones props for taking it like a man, breaking the news himself and playing it straight on Twitter. Meanwhile, Scherzinger chose to use her handlers who fed E! some non-sense about this being her decision and her wanting “to focus back on her music career.”
PREVIOUS: The expected sweeping changes on Simon Cowell’s The X Factor after a ho-hum first season have started with one of the most obvious targets, host Steve Jones. Fox has confirmed that Jones won’t return to the singing competition, which has already been renewed for a second season. Jones broke the news himself on Twitter. “I wont be hosting next seasons XFactor which is a shame but I can’t complain as I’ve had a great time,” he wrote. “Good luck to everyone on the show.” The news is not a shocker as reports that Jones won’t be asked back began circulating even before X Factor had wrapped its first season on Fox.
Veteran British TV presenter Jones was a complete unknown to American viewers until Cowell flew him over for a test at the last minute after Nicole Scherzinger, in her original role as host, nixed her chosen co-host, Corbin Bleu. Jones got the job after showing chemistry with Scherzinger. Of course, that soon proved irrelevant as Scherzinger was moved to the judges table following the dismissal of Cheryl Cole, and Jones became the show’s sole host. But the Welshman never seemed comfortable and drew mostly negative reviews for his performance. Scherzinger herself is on thin ice for another turn at a judge after a shaky first-season showing. She may have a backup plan — her original job just opened up.

I think Simon should produce, judge, host, syndicate, own the artists and do impressions of famous Americans who have had Talent!
Can’t wait to see the next over produced…judge driven…talent show?
I actually thought X-Factor was terrific. Much better than American Idol, which has really gone downhill. But I thought Nicole Sherzinger was a horrible judge and she brought the show down. Cowell needs to replace her. Everyone else at the judges table was great.
It was too Europeanized.
There were so many Brits on that show it was like watching the BBC.
3 judges not 4.
Keep Simon and Paula and add LL Cool J.
Daniel Tosh for host.
I bit of cheek and sarcasm from the host would broaden the audience.
Good. He was smug.
Brace up, Steve. Even dwarfs started small.
Who really cares? This is a 3 rate show after the other 2.
Can I recommend Drew Lachey ( not the sing off’s nick) who did a fantastic job as host for dancing with the stars or how about Mario Lopez?
Who really cares who hosts this show. It’s 3rd behind Idol and Voice in that order of things
They initally wanted a female host. That would be a good change up from the male hosts on AI and The Voice.
Great news…..now get rid of the dreadful Nicole
What about Rick Dees? He knows music and has been a radio dj host in L.A for a long time…
Rick Dees is 100
Nice try FOX, we want Nicole’s head, and please bring back Cheryl Cole.
The Welsh star was rumoured to be leaving the series after failing to impress viewers following the first series of the talent competition
Really bad news for Brits, jones might be back on the dreadful e4
They should have Phillip Lomax host the show, he could actually form full sentences and looked better in a suit.
Jones was too stiff and robotic to host this show. Need to lighten up dude.
Jones was terrible as a HOST. Talk about Awwwkwaaaard. He would ALWAYS say weird and rediculous comments about the performers and judges. The “behind the scene” comments were also just as bad when it was time to pick the performers. Hosts should take pointers from Ryan Seacrest before they start any show. He is funny, good to look at, and always knows what to say.
Nicole would of done way better as a host than a judge. She is beautiful and a lot better with her words than Jones. Having her as a judge didn’t help the show. She was very emotional, made poor decisions on some performers and was always dancing wildly and uncontrollably at the judges table. Made her look kinda stupid and unprofessional. There are times to do that stuff but not when America is watching your every move.
