EXCLUSIVE: Let the bidding frenzy begin! A mostly sleepy January TV spec market is being shaken up today by Rebounding, a single-camera comedy from Joe Port, Joe Wiseman and Modern Family co-creator Steve Levitan. Port and Wiseman co-created and wrote the script, inspired by real events in Port’s life, with Levitan, who has been involved in the development of the project, on board to direct the potential pilot. All three are executive producing. Rebounding is described as an uplifting comedy about a man recovering from the death of his fiance with the help of the idiots on his pick-up basketball team
. I hear the spec, from 20th Century Fox TV — where Levitan, Port and Wiseman are under overall deals — is being sent to all the networks today. It arrives fashionably late to the party as the nets are wrapping their pilot orders (with 13 half-hour pickups, NBC is believed to be done), but all networks undoubtedly have emergency reserves for a marquee offering with A-list auspices. UTA reps Levitan, executive producer on blockbuster ABC comedy Modern Family, and Port & Wiseman, who served as co-executive producers on Fox’s freshman hit New Girl earlier this season. The pair are now consulting producers on another 20th TV-produced freshman comedy, ABC’s Last Man Standing.

Well it is single cam so I don’t think CBS is going to bite.
Levitan didnt take Modern Family to FOX because of how they treated Back to You, but I guess the others work on New Girl, and it seems like a great companion piece for that.
ABC will probably do a multi-year Modern Family renewal and guarantee an episode order of Levitan gives it to them.
NBC will hopefully be very smart and buy this quick. Didn’t they pass on Modern Family because they didn’t want to be the mockumentary network?
traditionally that has been the case, but CBS has bought a number of single cam pitches this development season
I read their pilot. It’s in poor taste for starters, and worse it’s BORING as hell. I heard they had a massive amount of help come in to try and save their first draft from extinction. Not sure how you can have outside help completely rewrite a script and still slap your name on it. Seems like if it gets picked up everyone who helped should get a piece of the pie. Port and Wiseman really shouldn’t put their names on what they’re sending out now as “their work.” Do your own homework, boys.
Interesting project, but pedigree isn’t everything.
And I’ve never heard of NBC passing “Modern Family” but if they did then I do not believe it would of been a big hit like it is on ABC. ABC gave it a better platform with a family comedy lineup.
That is not true at all. The year ABC put Modern Family on there was zero platform from which to launch it. They just threw up four new comedies on Wednesday night and created an entire lineup from scratch on the strength of Mod Fam. If anything, The Office was still drawing strong ratings and would have been a great lead in.
I bid one dollar.
those guys are so funny. hope it goes!!!!!!
Port is a good 2/3 guard. Deceptively smooth in the lane but he takes some defensive possessions off.
Does anyone on the planet love himself more than Levitan? In the photo, he seems to be telling himself, “Damn, I’m handsome.”
Port does not take defensive possessions off. He just has an effortless style which makes it appear so.
This show will be exactly as good as its non-Levitan elements. Anybody remember Stacked, or Jiggs the Bunny? That’s pure Levitan. Anybody notice he’s got a silent partner on Modern Family, a guy who won twenty emmies on Frasier? Any math students out there?
Jiggs the Bunny — That’s classic.
Can’t wait for this one!
Ummm,
They did have Grey’s, Housewives and Dancing with the Stars
Now that is a talented group of guys with a really interesting concept.
Which of those led into mod fam?
