BREAKING: Universal has locked Bryan Bertino to write and direct Mockingbird, a horror thriller. It marks his return to the studio and is the first project he’s directing since he made the low-budget horror hit The Strangers for Rogue Pictures, which grossed $82 million worldwide. The film will be produced by Jason Blum for Blumhouse, Marc Platt and Adam Siegel for Marc Platt Productions, and Adrienne Biddle and Bryan Bertino for Unbroken. Scott Bernstein is overseeing for the studio. UTA reps Bertino.

Bertino said he wrote a script for The Strangers sequel, but it is in development hell. That’s all he said…
