UPDATE, 3:40 PM: They are moving quickly on The Crow. Relativity Media set F. Javier Gutierrez to direct the film. Gutierrez helmed Before The Fall.
EARLIER EXCLUSIVE, 2:24 PM: Days after Relativity Media and The Weinstein Company buried the hatchet and dropped lawsuits on the remake of The Crow, Jesse Wigutow is making a deal to write the script. The original was distributed by the Weinsteins at Miramax back in 1994 and grossed $50.6M domestic. Wigutow has Irreparable Harm set up at HBO Films, recently rewrote Robert Ludlum’s The Osterman Weekend for Summit, and has Age Inappropriate with Offspring at Universal. He recently scripted a Steve McQueen biopic for Cross Creek’s Brian Oliver, based on the book Steve McQueen: Portrait Of An American Rebel. The scribe is repped by UTA, Warren Dern, and Benderspink.

Why? Why not dare to write something good, instead of redoing a movie that GOT IT RIGHT the first time.
I actually hope this project get nixed and people come to their senses.
I would give your comment a “Like” if it was possible.
I agree…Brandon Lee ruled and to have another Eric Draven is heartbreaking. It’s a remake I will not be seeing. It’s a remake that makes me sick.
Here’s a bit of insider trivia/Crow lore: when Brandon Lee died midway through production, the producer Ed Feldman hired Walon Green, Michael Chernuchin and Rene Balcer (all 3 were working on Law & Order at the time) to write uncredited new material (narration, new scenes) to patch over the scenes that Brandon hadn’t shot yet.
This DOES NOT need to be remade, reimagined, rebooted or resurrected….The original was lightning in a bottle. Look at how bad the sequels were….This will be equally bad & tarnish The Crow even further.
But why will it be equally bad?Just because it’s a remake? That doesn’t even make sense. Will it be bad even if they got a great writer, director and actor?
What happened to Javier directing THE GREYS? That’s a script that should be made….
I would have really liked seeing the Nick Cave script filmed. He has a very unique voice. He would have made it worth while.
I wish someone one would finally get Wigutow’s “Urban Townies” script into production.
Jesse Wigutow is incredibly talented — he’ll do an amazing job with this project.
