BREAKING: After wrapping up a year that saw her turn in lauded performances in the films The Help, Tree of Life, Take Shelter and The Debt, Jessica Chastain is now turning her sights on Broadway. She will star in The Heiress, a revival of the Tony-winning play which will be directed by Moises Kaufman. The play is being mounted by Paula Wagner, Roy Furman and Stephanie P. McClelland for next fall. The play, written by Ruth Goetz & Augustus Goetz, was last performed on Broadway 17 years ago. Chastain is up for Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild awards for her 2011 work.

I like Jessica Chastain and think she’s very talented, but it’s always disheartening to see one of the few roles actually written for a plain girl go to a pretty girl. We have so little. Yes, I know, if she can play the part well, it shouldn’t be an issue, but it’s not like a director is ever going to say, “This character is described as stunningly beautiful, but this ugly girl did a fantastic audition. Let’s give it to her.”
Oh, and yes, I did realize how pathetic and self-pitying I sound.
The Plain = the last group that Hollywood can still discriminate against without fear. Even the ugly get parts (see Paul Giamatti) but never the lowly Plain.
This woman is absolutely lovely!
Having just spent four hours getting my hair straightened, colored, cut and highlighted, welcome to the reality that the difference between “lovely” and “plain” has a lot more to do with cosmetic ministrations than nature. Jessica Chastain will “plain up” just fine with her face scrubbed and hair pulled back into a spinsterly bun. And I will be first in line to buy tickets to see this exceptionally accomplished actress play such a great role!
she’s too pretty for the part.
Without doubt the most stunningly gorgeous young actress working in Hollywood. I don’t normally go gaga for celebrities I don’t know personally, but in her case I’ll make an exception. Jessica Chastain – you are perfection personified. How about a date?!
Amy Adams passed.
