Lionsgate-Summit Offers Discounted Tickets For Films This Weekend
EXCLUSIVE: To movieogers on the coasts, the Marcus Theatres chain isn’t a household name. But people in flyover country go to the more than 50 first-run theatre locations in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, and Wisconsin. So Midwest audiences won’t see Lionsgate’s One For The Money in a Marcus Theatre because the theater chain and the studio couldn’t come to financial terms. It’s always about the money — in this case, I hear the chain objected to Lionsgate’s deal with Groupon this weekend for discounted movie tickets to One For The Money. It may not matter. Hollywood doesn’t expect th pic to gross over $5M even though it’s based on Janet Evanovich’s bestselling novel. (Time for Katharine Heigl to fire her Momager.) Meanwhile, the trailer had to play three times before I realized that brunette was the blonde actress
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

“50 first-run theatre locations in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, and Wisconsin.” —- who cares???
*lol* you sound like her agent, or manager.
Making another movie, is not going to repair an image tarnished by childish antics and diva escapades.
People are tired of the spoiled brats of Hollywood. We are all tired of celebrities continually spouting their dubious “wisdom” about every subject of which they know nothing; except for the nonsense that their agent or manager told them. We are tired of the diva antics of people who play pretend for living. We are tired of people who make millions while pretending to be “union” members.
Mostly we are tired of the crap movies that “Hollywood” is putting out these days. All of it disrespectful to the people and country that allows them to be who they are.
@Tim W — Welcome to “development.” It’s a wonderful place to be! It’s where magic is transformed into crap. The star wants a rewrite of the script, the producer wants more boobage and the female lead wants more money for it, the studio is not happy with the leading wo/man so they broom her/him. Oh nuts we just lost our Director, now our second lead has a scheduling conflict. Oh damn, XYZ just went into pre-production on a similar film, quick go with what we have now and push for a Spring release!
That’s why films turn out so badly. It’s a complicated process run by studio execs who don’t understand what a good movie is, and inundated by egos of people who know even less about good movies than the studio execs.
I was just checking out this film at Rotten Tomatoes. 0% of the critics have liked it, but 84% of the people who watched it have liked it.
I find that fascinating.
@patrick batman: I gave up demanding quality pics from hollywood when they continued to pump out stuff like green hornet and bridesmaids.
Im a huge fan of evanovich and had the pleasure of meeting her. I want to know what hiegal and momager (since they are exec. Producers on the pic) did to convince evanovich for the rights. I hope there is some sort of breach of contract that evanovich can sue on. The casting is disapointing (helllo betty white should have been grandma mauzer) and im seeing train wreck all over this.
Would have made a better tv show than film
Oh I am sad that everyone has such a terrible opinion of this film. I don’t know who Heigil is but when I saw her in an interview and saw a little preview, she didn’t quite fit my imagination. But the truth is these books are great fun light entertainment. I read one in the hospital when recovering from a knee replacement and it was good medicine. Having been a film hairstylist I noticed what I think was Debbie Reynolds as Grandma with a terrible hairdo, a wig I presume. Was it just that the whole quality was not good. Sherre looked good as the whore, but I never did get to see the “guys” So for sure I will rent it on DVD, but it is too bad that it wasn’t cast a little better and maybe more attention to details, but I have not seen it so cannot say.
Groupon is always a bad deal for any business (any kind of business) and I wouldn’t let any entity make a Groupon deal on my behalf for anything. Maybe if you are in New York or LA you can swallow the loss with volume, but why should you? I don’t blame this little theater chain one bit. First stick me with a turkey of a movie that I have to take so that I can have ‘The Hunger Games’ later; then make a deal so that I lose even more money on it. I don’t think so.
I guess this post just makes me question how Groupon works because I guess I assumed it would be up to the theatre chains to offer Groupon discounts, not the studio. Also, doesn’t the inability to come to a deal and pull the movie hurt everyone?
Anyway, if you’ve read the books, the really don’t seem like big screen movies. They’re taut, and fun, but maybe a series of smart small tv movies would have been a better / smarter way to go.
