EXCLUSIVE: TV Land has reached to a foreign land for its latest comedy project. In a competitive situation, the cable network has picked up for development an U.S. version of the Israeli format Zanzuri from Ben Silverman’s Electus. Frasier alum Jon Sherman will write the adaptation, which centers on a family man who suffers a heart attack on his 40th birthday and discovers that every man in his family has died of a heart failure at that age. He then decides to go for it, grabbing life by the balls, and the people around him begin to see the difference. Zanzuri hails from DBS, Israel’s sole satellite television provider. IAC-owned Electus has strong ties with the Israeli TV industry.
In 2010, the company partnered with Guy Hameiri’s Abbot Reif Hameiri Production Co. “We have numerous deals in the Israeli marketplace, we see it as hotbed of creativity,” Electus CEO Chris Grant said. Electus, which has several unscripted series on the air and in the pipeline, including VH1′s Mob Wives and NBC’s upcoming Fashion Star, recently landed its first series order on the scripted side with Marco Polo at Starz. The company also has a couple of scripted projects set up at the broadcast networks, all based on international formats, including The Avalon at ABC, with Friends co-creator Martha Kauffman writing/executive producing.

After all these years Chris Grant is still assistant to Ben Silverman? Come on. It’s a small company of five people. Ben’s company. CEO? Come on.
Once again Ben creates nothing…….a master at non -original content.
You needn’t create squat, if you can create a deal.
Wow, those sour grapes above sure seem bitter!
I find it absolutely PATHETIC that this terrible Israeli formats keep getting adapted. If there is no originality supposedly left in this whole country can we at least look at other places? I mean there are a lot of countries out there but hollywood politics just keep forcing this formats and the success ratio is pretty low.
Have you seen HOMELAND. Amazing! What is pathetic is you envy. Take a writing or producing class and stop crying…
Congratulations, Jon Sherman!!
If Jon’s writing, I’m watching. It’s as simple as that!
So glad they have strong ties to Israel…means nothing. Who cares. Nothing exciting in this show? Guy has heart attack…changes life? Wow that’s a winner. And reality show”I Love Jennie” (Jennie Garth)… Who in their right mind even cares about her??? All garbage. Go back to solid, comedy entertainment. Find a 3 camera, possibly family show, that people can relate to…or a solid drama…stop with this “Out of the box” crap! I hear “Avalon” is already a disaster…bought only because it was Marta Kaufman. Ironically, I like Ben and those guys.Stop with these off the wall, feeble attempts at good television.
I have to agree that if Jon’s writing it, I will watch it, I will have to locate TVLand on my satellite provider, I know it’s on there.
