UPDATE, 10:10 AM: The time-adjusted fast nationals for the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards are in. From 8-11 PM, the show, which aired live on both coasts, pulled in a 5.0 rating in adults 18-49 and 16.8 million viewers overall. That is down 4% from last year’s ceremony in adults 18-49 (5.0 vs. 5.2) and 1% in total viewers (16.844 million vs. 17.001 million). The Golden Globes ruled the 8-10 PM time period, lifting NBC to a No. 2 finish for the night behind an NFL overrun-boosted Fox.
PREVIOUS. 7:30 AM: In the metered markets, last night’s Golden Globe Awards posted a 11.7 rating/18 share, a tenth below last year’s 11.8/18. In households, NBC topped the competition in every half-hour from 8-11 PM. Regardless of the level of popularity of the movies and TV shows nominated and winning, ratings have been surprisingly consistent with Ricky Gervais as host: 11.9 in 2010, 11.8 in 2011 and 11.7 this year. That is after the show jumped 14% in total viewers the first time Gervais hosted in 2010. This year’s winners included mostly smaller movies and lesser-known pay cable series. I’ll update the story with time-adjusted fast nationals in a couple of hours.

I turn out in at live 6pm pst hour on NBC I watching Shameless then I went back to 60 minutes then 8pm news on KCAL then watch 9pm premire of episode of Downton Abby

They muzzle Ricky big time
Even if not quite a travesty, certainly about as far from a triumph as its possible to get.
Younger audiences care less about star fucking than older ones and the shows themselves lack any real entertainment value (save Ricky or the like eviscerating celebs), I only expect these award shows to go further down in ratings.
Whattay know. No new viewers, and even a few lost, in spite of Ricky’s endless harping about how daring and naughty he was going to be.
I thought it was great! I thought Ricky was hilarious; not as mean as last year, which my tender heart liked, but still really sharp. Plus I’m so happy Christopher Plummer won for his beautiful performance in Beginners. I wish that My Week with Marilyn hadn’t stuck itself the comedy/musical category so Kristin Wiig could have gotten some recognition.
I have to say it but Robert Pattinson wasn’t there. That’s your young viewership. NO Andrew, No Zach. Ricky was so boring.
Huge improvement over last year. I still don’t like Ricky but the production went smoothly.
The Golde Globes is one example of how homogenized the awards shows are becoming, especially in the delivery of entertainment content. You are “entertained” with SNL / Office type humor while the Hollywood elite all pat each other on the back. Notably while the elders all came out with their wrinkes and years of experience, the younger actors might as well have entertained us with shots of them looking at their Iphones (they looked so bored). Also why all the shots with Dustin Hoffman? Leo DiCaprio had the same look like he was poised to take the reins from the elders the minute they declared retirement.
And the deal with Rickie? I think I saw Sophie Vergara drinking pepsie more than Gervais carrying a beer and proclaiming that he was about to be funny. Might as well phoned it in or should have animated himself like the HBO show hes in with his sidekicks.
The fashion score if anyone cares? The men had more class than the women. Most of the women would have looked just as attractive if Snooki dressed them. Bring back the black evening gown!

The ratings are down among young people because they have figured out that this is a meaningless awards show.
Uggie should host the Globes next year.
