EXCLUSIVE: Christopher Heyerdahl, who plays an ancient vampire in the Twilight Saga movies, will now play one in another screen adaptation of a popular book series — this time on TV. Heyerdahl is joining HBO’s hit vampire drama True Blood in a recurring role. He will portray Dieter Braun, an ancient, powerful vampire who plays a large part in the intelligence of the Authority and especially enjoys enhanced interrogation. That is
familiar territory for Sanctuary alum Heyerdahl, who played the ancient Volturi vampire Marcus in three of the Twilight movies: New Moon, Breaking Dawn Part 1 and the upcoming Part 2 (photo on left). Additionally, he played a demon in an arc on the CW’s Supernatural. Heyerdahl, repped by Open Entertainment’s Lesa Kirk, currently co-stars on the AMC drama series Hell On Wheels playing Norwegian badass The Swede. The period Western was recently renewed for a second season.

Actors will always take the paycheck now and complain about being typecast later.
I have never heard Chris complain about the parts that he plays. I think that he rather enjoys them.
He is the best thing on Hell on Wheels… super creepy.
This guy is everywhere. So, does this mean Sanctuary is done? The season 4 finale could work as a series finale if that’s the case. But, while season 4 was not the best, there’s still seems to be room for more stories.
Not necessarily. He isn’t the main character, nor is he in every episode, so the actor recurring on another show doesn’t mean Sanctuary is cancelled.
Also, True Blood starts airing in the summer, which means they’ll be done filming before then.Sanctuary, if it is returning, hasn’t even been renewed yet, so he’d be done with True Blood by the time they’d need him for Sanctuary.
But, that’s not to say it isn’t canceled.
It is always refreshing to see a journeyman actor get credit for his acting skills. Mr. Heyerdahl has spent years playing a variety of different characters and inhabiting them completely. If he was a lame half actor and played exactly the same act again and again, he might have gotten noticed sooner.
No mention of Stargate: Atlantis? He had a pretty large part in that and was great in the part.
Marcus in Twilight isn’t Christopher’s first Vampire, the Wraith from Stargate are Vampires. He played Dr. Mortas on Matthew Blackheart that certainly looked like a vampire. He helped Blade kill Vampires Blade Trinity.
If he’s been typed cast it would be as the well meaning nice guy that stands up for everyone and dies for it (Chronicle of Riddick) or causes disaster and dies for it (Jeramiah TV)
Even when he’s playing basically evil roles there is still something Lovable about them, Alistair (Supernatual TV) Todd the Wraith (StarGate Atlantis TV) Zor-El (Smallville TV).
So if there is a type cast it’s that Christopher is the most likeable guy to ever be a “monster”
