Lionsgate has changed the release date of What To Expect When You’re Expecting to May 18, 2012. It had been set for May 11, where it was pitted against Paramount’s Sacha Baron Cohen comedy The Dictator and Warner Bros’ Dark Shadows. The shift puts the ensemble romantic comedy, based on the best-selling pregnancy how-to guide, up against Universal’s actioner Battleship.

Might be a good bit of counter-programming for Lionsgate, especially if Battleship turns out to be a disaster.
Regardless of whether BATTLESHIP is a good film or not (which right now it’s looking like a strong popcorn flick ala MICHAEL BAY stuff from all of the trailers), its a lose situation for Lionsgate. No way will they be able to compete with the marketing dollars that Universal will put towards their movie. Its gonna get crushed.
Well no shit sherlock. It’s called counter-programming. Not one girl on the planet will want to see Battleship so this gives them something to see. It will do 17 million opening weekend which is all you can ask and they will all be happy.
Really? I beg to differ. You’ve got a heartthrob in Taylor Kitsch, you’ve got pop diva Rihanna and you’ve got the history of 4 quadrant movies like Armageddon and Transformers as comps . . .
