EXCLUSIVE: Anderson Cooper’s daytime talk show, which has been renewed for a second season, is moving to a new stage. The talker, which has originated from Jazz at Lincoln Center’s The Allen Room since its September launch, will be moving to the CBS Broadcast Center in New York. The show will take over the stage currently occupied by another daytime syndicated strip, The Nate Berkus Show, which will wrap its run at the end of this season. Anderson producers had been looking for a more traditional studio. “We are focused on Anderson being topical and featuring the stories, the newsmakers and the celebrities that everyone is talking about which plays directly to Anderson’s strengths as a journalist and his ability to give viewers the context and depth to be in the know,” Anderson executive producer Terence Noonan said. “At CBS, we will have a dedicated studio that will allow us to tape on a daily basis and turn around the shows the next day or to go live when warranted giving the show the sense of urgency to be appointment television.” The show will continue to be taped in front of a live studio audience. Anderson‘s ratings have picked up in 2012. Over the past four weeks, the show has averaged a 1.5 household rating, up 9% from November 2011. Anderson recently underwent a behind-the-scenes changing of the guard, with Noonan taking the reins from original executive producers Jim Murphy and Lisa Morin.

I think the set they have know distinguishes itself from other talk shows, i hope they reconsider.
This is ridiculous. He has the coolest set of any show and it sets itself apart from everyone else. Big mistake!
I’m sure Terence nor Anderson will admit it, but the real reason for the move is probably because where they are now costs them too much money. The show isn’t doing as well as they would like for us to believe. Just look at the daily ratings!
This move is probably to a way smaller place, which is cheaper to lease and doesn’t have to have as big of an audience. They are having problems filling the seats of the Jazz.
This just proves that they know the show isn’t catching on so the are scaling back to save money so as not to be canceled.
The post hints that it was logistically challenging too… “At CBS, we will have a dedicated studio that will allow us to tape on a daily basis and turn around the shows the next day or to go live when warranted giving the show the sense of urgency to be appointment television.” They use that space for live music performances at night, don’t they?
My friend and I have attended Anderson’s show at Lincoln Center’s Allen Room numerous times over the past year, and the number of people in line to be seated always outweighed the seating capacity of the room, even when they added in additional seating.
Actually, you’re wrong. The reason they gave makes perfect sense. The Allen Room was never made for broadcasting. The wiring and lighting are made for live stage performances and not for an interactive talkshow where the host sometimes goes into the audience. Nor is there an in-house editing studio so everything has to be improvised, or edited later at a remote location. As Noonan stated, it’s not possible to be spontaneous or do a live broadcast. I don’t even know if they can air from the street as Letterman or Kimmel often does.
As for the audience, you obviously don’t know New York. Do you seriously think we can’t fill an audience with a FREE event??? Not only is Cooper popular among New Yorkers, but plenty of tourists would love to see his show. If you look in the audience, you’ll also see lots of college students, which are always looking for free events. There is usually a waiting list for the show so you’re wrong.
As for saving money, moving would indeed save money simply because you now have a studio made for broadcasting, What’s so surprising about any show wanting to save money?
Anderson is losing millions of dollars this season with their pathetic ratings. They are moving to studio to save money…period!! Maybe they’ll realize that they should have spent money on better producers and not on expensive digs.
Is it smart to move into the same studio as a cancelled show? Well Anderson is going to follow Nate as a cancelled show anyway. Still love him on CNN but this talk thing is not for him…
Certainly this is a cost cutting move. I imagine renting that Lincoln Center space was pricey.
I do agree that this kind of show is not in AC’s wheelhouse.
I think Anderson is a great talk show host! He has a different perspective which I find refreshing in the talk show realm and he’s very smart, too.
I like his set and wish he would stay there, but cutting costs is extremely important these days.
Anderson looks ridiculous as a talk-show host. The last straw was when he had some big ol’ WWF chick on show, body-slamming him. He’d get up each time with this stupid grin on his face. He’s better as just an anchor, and even then, I never got all the Anderson-mania.
Something tells me there is more to this story …. that space is a brilliant space but cant be cheap
That’s unfortunate. The thing I like the most about his show is the set. It’s not as artificial as most talk show sets.
Anyone remember Ellen once did (or may have done multiple times) a week in NYC in that exact same room? It’s a great studio.
Anderson has already changed drastically from the show it was a few months ago in a desperate attempt to save the ratings. I actually quite liked the old premise – some will say same difference but yes, it is possible to gossip without going completely down the drain. Now they are just abusing an elegant set (and a whole elegant iMac-packed office behind the show) for completely white trash content, and make him look even more out of place in the process.
He’s a likable chap, but the daily grind seems too much for AC to handle. Not much sincerety.
Rearranging the furniture on the deck of the Titanic.
Two and done like a million other talk shows before.
Im pretty sure ‘better producing’ is an oxymoron
The set is amazing it was the talk of our office (the biggest IT service provider in the world ) and many started to DVR after this set conversation and eveyone agreed. I love anderson but I love that set so much more. Wow ! we were planning to get tickets to go see the show as a group. I am not sure well be lucky now to go to that set anymore.
Thank you so much for choosing me out of the audience to be on the panel Friday about STD’s. I enjoy the Cooper show daily and will continue to watch the show. His show is so informative. Thank you Anderson and Staff
His is a dumb show… it’s down and dirty and it appears he’s trying to become another Maury Povich or that other guy.
Further, Cooper is a terrible interviewer, rarely lets people complete their sentences, always butts in and it’s annoying.
He obviously thinks this show is a platform for him to hammer his own attitudes into peoples’ heads, and he calls himself a journalist? Puh-leeze…
this is exactly what i think about him. his views on people is obvious and just falls under the same attitude of ignorant masses and makes the audience applaude. he fails to see things in different perspectives. so annoying
The show is nothing but an hour advertisement for shows on TLC. Anderson wanted his show to be unique and informative, well it sure isn’t. So far he has shown how not to do a talk show and how to show off the fact he is part of the 1%(big pretentious studio). He wanted to be the next Phil Donahue, but all I can say is “You Sir are no Donahue nor will you ever be, plus you’ve lost your sense of self.
I love
anderson Cooper’s show. He is so down to earth – it;s refreshing. I watch him every time I am able .
Now just get a new host. Two dummies like Anderson Cooper and Katie Couric are the same old recycled garbage from the networks.
I can’t believe the petty (and often misspelled) venom thrown around here at Anderson, who has handled himself with great dignity, humility and compassion. I think he has won an entirely new audience as this new show appeals to far more people who rarely or never see him on CNN. He is not at all out of his element, quite the contrary, he has established a new and more accessible side of his talent. In a world where so many regular folks get undeserved showcases on unscripted TV, for an impressive media icon to leave his figurative pedestal and show his regular-guyness while retaining his dignity and intelligence is refreshing and endearing. I will definitely miss the studio, but the man makes the show, and he’s become essential to this new realm.
I also enjoy Anderson on CNN when he is doing serious journalism but on his talk show and the rediculist segment of his CNN show he seems uncomfortable. This show will be short lived in any studio. It is a platform for nuts as indicated by the ads for next weeks program on people who want to be paralyzed and would like to find someone to sever their spinal cord. Disgusting and has no journalistic or entertainment value
Why is Ellen on in Anderson’s place?
Please do not take his show off the air. His is such a teaching forum. We do not need one more smut show or realality junkie show.
I have been to both studios, to see Nate on his show and to see Anderson twice on his show and I will say that there is no comparison as to how beautiful the view is at Jazz versus a closed studio at CBS, but if money is anissue then you move to the smaller less expensive studio. I will say that I’m sad that the move will take place, but I am glad that The Anderson Team will move into their second season rather than not.
As for the Anderson TALK SHOW haters, give him a break because after all the stories that he covers for AC360, which are of a serious matter, sometimes you need a break to work on the lighter side of the media. Kudos to Anderson for being able to juggle it all and still keep a clear head. Hoping to get tickets for the new season!!! Jeanne Dugan
Anderson, I have been watching your show and thoroughly enjoy it. However, it has disappeared. I have searched every channel and it is not listed. I live in south Georgia and our news comes from the Jacksonville, Florida stations. Do you all know if it is not being broadcast from there anymore?? Any idea where I can find the show??? Sure do miss it. Thank you, Kennetta Bartels
