EXCLUSIVE: Emmy winner Andre Braugher is set to lead the ensemble cast of ABC’s drama pilot Last Resort, executive produced by Shawn Ryan and written-executive produced by Karl Gajdusek. The Sony TV-produced project centers on the crew of the U.S.S. Nevada, a nuclear submarine, who, after disobeying a suspicious order, become fugitives. They land on the island of Sainte Marina, where they take over the NATO Listening Station and declare themselves an independent nuclear nation. Braugher will play Capt. Marcus Chaplin, the commander of the U.S.S. Nevada, a veteran of real combat, a leader by nature and a patriot, but will not follow any man blindly. Braugher, repped by WME and Principato-Young, won Emmys for his lead roles on Homicide and Thief. He most recently starred on the TNT dramedy Men Of A Certain Age, which earned him 2 Emmy nominations. This marks the second military-themed ensemble drama from Ryan to cast an well-known black actor as the lead, following the CBS series The Unit, which starred Dennis Haysbert.

As a life long Nevadan I hope they all learn the right way to pronounce the name of the state.
Since I don’t have a southwesterner’s twang, I happily pronounce “Nevada” the way people who live there DON’T pronounce it. If people had to pronounce American place names the way people who live there pronounce them, the US would have a state called Missourah, a city called St. Louee, a city called New Yawk, a state called New Joisy, and a city called Ballamore — just for starters.
Oh, Good Lord. I grew up in New Jersey and my entire family still lives there, and *no one* says “Joisy” unless they are making a joke. Please, don’t believe the stereotypes that Letterman, SNL, and the MTV-abomination-which-shall-not-be-named have spewed out over the years.

Well, this became somewhat of a must watch. He is a phenomenal actor.
Andre Braugher is a great actor and was the best actor on television for the 6 years he was on Homicide. (He only won the Best Actor Emmy his last season of the show however.) Unfortunately, I’m not to bullish on this show though. Hopefully it will get picked up.

Susan, I heartily agree with you about it being one of the best. But the show ran its course. That kind of magic isn’t easily duplicated.
This series sounds like it could be amazing. Great casting and the premise sounds really interesting.

Probably. But I’d rather see networks swing for the fences and fail than do another boring ass cop show and fail.
While this is good news for such a fine actor like Andre Braugher, however, it’s really bad news considering Andre’s role on Men of A Certain was incredible, and he did an incredible job. Now Mr. Braugher is relegated to stories about guns or violence, that is what is saddest of all.

I have always loved Andre Braugher and he is a passionate, but DENNIS HAYSBERT is the best Actor who has ever portrated a Military Commander Black or White. The UNIT is the best acted, produced, written, staged, whatever you want to say, but it’s the best and I’ve lived on several Military Bases, dealt with junk in supporting my ex-husband. THE UNIT is the BOMB! On the bright side and I had opportunity to express that to the writes last year at the Beverly Hills Hotel while attending an event for the MAA. Andre can move you, but in that position or genre…DENNIS HOLDS THE CROWN:)
I really wish to Christ Andre Braugher could be in something good again. It’s a damn shame that he’s been in pretty much nothing but crap since Homicide. He’s such a terrific actor, he deserves so much better.
This reminds me of battlestar galactica more than any of those other shoes you mention. I hope we get good action and submarine stuff vs just political machinations. Anyway I bet the pilot will be awesome but the test of strength will be where do they go after they set up shop on this island. Also to anyone who compares this to lost… Seriously just because its set on an island?? This sounds nothing like lost.
