EXCLUSIVE: Writer Geoff LaTulippe just closed his first directing job at Paramount’s Insurge label. LaTulippe, who scripted Going the Distance and Breathers, will write and direct an untitled comedy ensemble based on his pitch at Paramount. What makes this particularly interesting for Deadline is that his studio shot came about after Par Film Group president Adam Goodman saw on Deadline a short that LaTulippe’s made for WME’s all-company retreat in which Curb Your Enthusiasm‘s J.B. Smoove took over the agency on Yom Kippur. That got the aspiring director a meeting, where the studio bought his pitch and set him to direct for its microbudget film division. Dawn Olmstead and Marti Noxon are producing the project. LaTulippe is repped by WME and Mosaic.
He’s the second piece of talent from a Hollywood parody aired on Deadline who got a career nudge. After playing an Ari-esque superagent in another WME-generated spoof Pinkberry: The Movie, the UTA-repped Miles Fisher got the starring role in Final Destination 5, followed by a supporting role the Clint Eastwood-directed J. Edgar. Can a Deadline short film Hollywood parody contest be in our future? Below is LaTulippe’s JB Smoove short, and beneath that is Pinkberry: The Movie.

I’m really happy for Geoff. He’s one of the good guys. Kudos man!
“piece of talent”? Ouch.
not trying to hate but going the distance was pretty mediocre…
Geoff is not only talented which is rare in this biz nowadays, but he is a generous and considerate person which is even rarer. I am proud and happy for him.
just b/c a short is about Hollywood shouldn’t make up for a lack of filmmaking ability. this is one of the problems with Hollywood. the priorities aren’t on talent, but heat, buzz, bullshit which nobody in the flyover states gives a damn about when buying or not buying a ticket/dvd/etc.
Hate to sound like a WME troll (which I’m not). Geoff is a good writer and a great guy. He deserves all the success that comes his way.
Oh, come on. The guy literally had his stuff playing in front of THE ENTIRE WME AGENCY. Obviously having his work exposed and being well-connected was in no way a problem for him.
But nice try. When someone’s talent and hard work leads to success in this town there are always plenty of people there to claim credit for it.
Nice to see something happening for Dawn.
None of those agents were approved or wanted to go to Sundance? Instead of wasting time making a dumb short why don’t they get some sun. They all look dead on the outside. On the plus side it was nice to see Wirtschafter without a band-aid on his nose.
What kind of percentage should Deadline get on these deals?
It’s nice to see Horatio Sanz getting work. He looks good in that picture up top.
Man, was that brutal. Even a great comedian like JB couldn’t save that drivel.
Sorry to bother you guys with a dumb question, but what is a “par deal”?
I’ve heard this term before on various industry blogs, but never know what it means.
I’m very happy for Geoff, but a little shocked that anyone had the patience to sit through his video while all the jokes and dialogue bounced around the entire empty, cavernous office coming out completely inaudible. Really? No one wants to spring for a DR 100 and a lav mic? I’m all for microbudget do it yourself stuff, but when the technique keeps you out of the material – pooh.
So all it takes to become a director in Hollywood is to write one mediocre comedy and direct a mediocre comedy sketch at your agents retreat? Hollywood!
UNBELIEVEABLE
GOiNG THE DISTANCE WAS THE SINGLE WORST MOVIE OF THE NEW MILLENIUM
WTF IS GOING ON IN hollywoood how does this shit get green lighted
Also this lateuiellepe charachter looks like he smells ! No one will see this he is a tosser.
