CBS’ midseason police drama The 2-2 aka Rookies, will launch April 15 with the official title NYC 22. The show, which follows six diverse NYPD rookies as they patrol the gritty streets of Upper Manhattan, has been assigned the Sunday 10 PM time slot, where it will replace CSI: Miami. To make room for the newbie, the current 10th season of the CSI spinoff was trimmed to 19 episodes, so the veteran will have completed its run of originals by April 15. NYC 22, from CBS TV Studios and Tribeca Prods, was created by Richard Price, who executive produces with Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal, Ken Sanzel and James Mangold. The series stars Terry Kinney, Adam Goldberg, Leelee Sobieski, Stark Sands, Judy Marte, Harold “House” Moore, Tom Reed and Felix Solis.

I honestly thought this would go to Tuesdays @ 10, instead, and CSI:Miami would get burned off on Fridays while Undercover Boss and Amazing Race got repaired.
This doesn’t seem like that great of a move for Eye’s near-flatlining Sunday night line-up. NYC22 will have no lead-in due to Good Wife’s ratings flaccidity, and it’s not like that name is going to read well to auds, either.
Has there been any report on how many episodes they are filming? With such a late launch, they would only be able to get 6-7 episodes aired before the official TV season is over. 13 episodes would run well into the summer.
It’s not like that hasn’t happened before. Chaos and Miami Medical had 13 episodes, and after going DOA, went well into the summer airing them. Miami Medical even stayed in its Fridays @ 10 timeslot for its burnoff.
Of course, if this gains traction (unlikely unless CBS does a last minute swerve to keep Undercover Boss on Sundays) then the episodes will probably be held for next season.
The Good Wife just skews old. The viewership is still really solid with over 10 million viewers each week.
It’s too bad though… I’m 20 years old and The Good Wife, in my opinion, is the best scripted drama on TV.
what does this mean for CSI Miami? Is it getting cancelled?
It’s not like it’s had the ratings for renewal at any point this season (other than that spike after the NFL game a few weeks ago). I’d say this means the end, AMC syndication deal be d___ed.
Doubtful. A deal was signed with AMC for the exclusive rights to rerun CSI:Miami’s next 2 seasons. This means pretty big bucks for CBS so I think the show will be around to collect. It might be shifted to Friday or even Saturday but I think it’ll be around.
I hope not! The show must last at least to Season 12. The original CSI, I expect it to last to at least Season 15. If you think this show should not be cancelled, I totally agree! It would be stupid to! Not ready for that yet!
Finally!
Sorta buried the lede. Forget DeNiro, we’re talking’ Richard Price here. And that’s saying something.
Why are all these actor/producers making AFTRA jurisdiction instead of SAG jurisdiction shows?
Spacey- House of Cards-AFTRA
Clooney- Delta Blues-AFTRA
De Niro- Rookie- AFTRA
Don’t they have any loyalty to SAG?
Looks like CBS has a little faith for this show to find an audience. Excited to see what Richard Price does on network tv. And good pedigree btwn Sanzel and Tribeca behind this. Thought Mangold only directed the pilot though? Definitely tuning in!
I think I saw this already… it was called ROOKIE BLUE
Rookie Blue will be starting it’s third season in June. I don’t know if NYC 22 will be as good without the fantastic cast that RB has, especially Ben Bass and Missy Peregrym. but NYC 22 does sound like a Rookie Blue ripoff.
Rookies certainly ain’t reinventing the wheel, but how can you even compare Richard Price to Canadian Grey’s Anta-Cops?? Sunday will be a classy night for CBS with this and Good Wife. TiVo set.
While it seems odd my Sunday night lineup includes: Once Upon A Time, The Good Wife, and CSI: Miami. I really like the storyline and cast of CSI: Miami and hate to see it go. Really like the added dimension of criminal forensics you get with CSI: Miami and not looking forward to another traditional police drama. Bummer!
