EXCLUSIVE: FX is developing a half-hour comedy created by and starring comedian Dana Gould and executive produced by Foo Fighters’ lead vocalist/songwriter Dave Grohl. Gould is writing/executive the project, which centers on a rock band on the verge of mega-stardom who finds itself on the verge of breaking up and is forced to seek professional help in a last-ditch effort to stay together. Unfortunately, they end up with a misanthropic couple’s therapist from Agoura on the brink of divorce. Gould, a fan of Grohl’s music, approached him about joining the project. Grohl has a reputation of being one of the funniest rock stars who is friends with a lot of comedians. In addition to Gould and Grohl, executive producing the project are 3 Arts’ Tom Lassally and Dave Becky and Bill Gerber of Gerber Pictures. Gould previously wrote, executive produced and starred in the 2010 ABC pilot Nolan Knows Best. He is currently writing feature Moon People for Sony with Mosaic producing. Gould’s podcast The Dana Gould Hour premieres today on iTunes and Podcaster. The project was packaged by UTA, which reps Gould and Gerber.

Metallica’s some kind of monster the TV series… Brilliant
Gould’s a great guy. I hope it’s a success.
Gould + Grohl = GOLD.
i think you meant…GROLD?
Actually Gould + Grohl = GROULD.
Dana is one of the good guys, and a great comedian. Sounds like a great idea too. Congrats and good luck!
Very FX could work nicely and NO Dana Gould is NOT a great comic never never never have seen this guy really kill a room or a TV spot with his stand up. I do believe Dana cam act though but stand up uhm…no.
Um, this is the exact opposite of the general opinion on Dana. Nearly everyone in town considers him a brilliant, balls-out funny comic (I’ve never seen him NOT kill) but the jury is still out on his acting. He’s a great guy. I hope the show works.
Go Billy and Tom! The show sounds great, congrats on the sale.
Dana Gould is one of the nicest guys in the comedy biz and milk out of your nose funny as hell, I sincerely hope this is great and a huge success for him!
They’re generating more heat than the Manhatten Project
I think you are alone in your estimation of Gould. He’s consistently cited as one of the best comics working. The first time i saw him ‘kill’ was in 1989, and I’ve seen him do it countless times since. Perhaps you’re thinking of someone else.
Gould is great, even impromptu on Bill Mahr’s show. He’s brilliantly funny, and having Grohl in the mix at least makes the mix have some “in the trenches” sensibility, which usually makes things funnier. FX is great in how they actually support shows and voices from people who’ve lived and created independently, then bring them to the TV world. Not just recycling the same tired old failures in the old boys networks that are pervasive, and the biggest problem re: bad tv…
I loved Dana as the Church Lady.
