Two weeks into its freshman season, Comedy Central’s breakout new sketch comedy series Key & Peele has been renewed for a 10-episode second season, which will premiere in the fall. “Because Key & Peele has been so immediately and universally well received, I was worried if we didn’t give the show a quick pick up, people might accuse me of being racist,” Comedy Central’s head of original programming Kent Alterman said. Created by and starring Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, Key & Peele examines life in a provocative way through a combination of filmed sketches and live stage segments, showcasing Key and Peele’s chemistry, camaraderie and unique point of view, born from their shared background growing up biracial in a not quite post-racial world. The series launched 2 weeks ago behind Comedy Central’s hit Tosh.0 to 2.1 million total viewers, the network’s most watched new series premiere since 2009. It was particularly strong with male viewers, posting a 2.6 rating in men 18-34 rating and a 3.3 in men 18-24 rating to finish as No.1 in its time slot with both demographics across all of television. “We are honored, humbled and most importantly contractually obligated to deliver a second season to Comedy Central,” said Key and Peele. Nice, Congrats.
I only saw the first show and laughed all the way through. Funny, but not raunchy. Perfect.
Finally something funny that has some multi-dimensionality. It is a great comedy for people who get it. And you know who you are.
Watched it. Laughed once. Not funny. Not original. Sorry for the negativity, but when you see the exact same joke in a commercial ten minutes later, it’s not original.
Not only are these two guys super talented, they are truly nice people. Wishing them continued success!
Awesome! This is one of the best new shows this year, so glad they got a second season. Here’s hoping for many more.
Love this show. I think it’s really refreshing to have their unique perspectives on the air. Can’t wait to see more.
Sorry for the negativity. Couldn’t get through this show. Should cancel soon.
An attempt to be like the sorely missed Chappelle Show. But its just not the least bit funny…
Sketches are great but they don’t need to be on stage. It’s just like Chappelle, it’s not funny and ruins the entire show.
Great show. They are a great team and had me laughing out loud from beginning to end. First sketch comedy show I enjoyed in years!!! I actually worked with Keegan before and he is truly one of the nicest guys in Hollywood. Congrats!!!
Watched with our teen son, something we both laugh at!
Good news.
About as lame as ‘In the Flow’ with Aphion Crocket… sorry but not the Chapelle show every network’s been looking for.
The bit about film snobs shouting accurate critiques at the silver screen, undercutting the racial stereotype of African-Americans talking in movie theaters, won me over for the rest of the season.
Fucking hilarious.
Love this show, still smarting over MadTV’s demise, welcome back guys!
I was getting bored with TV until I saw the first episode. OMG. Its my kinda humor. I’m mixed too and I can relate to everything. I wake up to “I said bitch” and “lil Wayne I. The shower. Jordans facial expression Kills me, lmao. I thinkwe needed something new and fresh. I know this show will be the greatest comedy skit etc of all time. Before long, we will have Key and Peele Marathons along with reruns on multiple stations.
I like it because it’s pretty clean and fun. Better than Saturday Night Live, hands down. I would love to go to a taping. Where do I get on the waiting list?
My daughter is 17 and now has the entire Claremont High School watching and imitating the different characters in the skits. Everyone loves that beat with Lil Wayne. Is that a real song? I would buy it RIGHT NOW! It’s stuck in my head. I can always get a smile from her when she’s in grumpy mode by saying ” I looked her in her eye sockets and said, B…h”
These guys are so cutting edge, they do everything but kiss a picture of the president on every show /sarc. The last thing Comedy Central needs is another show that is cheerleading for the current administration. Isnt on Stewert and The Colbert show enough already?
