Three years after it first signed former NBC late-night talk show host Conan O’Brien, TBS has extended his late-night series Conan through April 2014. “I am excited to continue my run with TBS because they have been fantastic partners,” O’Brien said. “This means I’ll be taping episodes of Conan well into the Ron Paul presidency.” After a huge ratings start, Conan settled into a modest ratings territory, keeping its appeal to younger viewers. In announcing the show’s renewal, TBS touts a recent streak of 3 consecutive months of audience growth. Year-to-date, Conan has averaged 1.1 million viewers, with 407,000 adults 18-34 and 702,000 adults 18-49. “We are proud to be in business with Conan O’Brien for the long run,” said TNT and TBS’ head of programming Michael Wright. “Night after night, Conan and his team have put together terrific shows that draw a young and fiercely loyal audience. As if that weren’t enough, they have also built a dynamic online presence that keeps fans engaged like no other show in late night.” O’Brien has 5 million followers on Twitter, while video clips from Conan logged more than 83 million views in 2011. Last year, the show traveled to New York. In June 2012, Conan will do a week of shows in Chicago. TBS’ relationship goes beyond the talk show. O’Brien’s Warner Bros. TV-based company Conaco recently produced a comedy pilot for the network. Produced by Conaco, Conan is executive produced by Jeff Ross.

Who knew he was still on?
Your kids and their kids.
Zing!
That’s awesome. Total burn.
Apparently millions of people based on the TV ratings, Twitter followers and online video views.
hardly millions………… he barely draws 900,000 – pathetic!
Only audience is stupid kids…….. and only a few at that!
TBS shelling out big bucks for Big Bang reruns is paying off short-term, but Conan is going to take a beating this fall when the election kicks into high gear.
I have been watching the first half of Conan more. Jon Stewart’s Daily Show has been turning into The Rachael Maddow show. Stewart needs to launch a second show that’s just news – he’s been so busy delivering news that gets overlooked, the satire’s been left out. Colbert still has the spark, having fun at the expense of the system. His running joke/actual Super PAC has been funny and enlightening.
Perhaps you should try getting your news from an actual news source then, and not a comedy program.
Totally agree with you! Do the political satire Monday-Thursday with The Daily Show and then have an hour long weekly show on another channel. CNN, ABC, what have you.
Re: “Your kids and their kids.”
Sorry, Conan’s crowd is well over 40 and his ratings are barely beating the ones George Lopez had before Conan’s show was dropped on his. Your kids and their kids are watching the BIG BANG reruns.
GOD HELP US ALL!
People actually watch “The Big Bang Theory”?!?
I like Conan!
Our kids are getting plenty of Conan, just not on television. My son watches Conan nuggets from the web on his Android phone almost nightly. The TV ratings way understate Conan’s impact. And even if they didn’t, the show gives TBS a high-visibility halo that helps total lineup awareness. Conan::TBS as Corvette::Chevrolet.
The TV ratings may understate Conan’s impact, but arguably no more than a guy like Kimmel, who’s had dozens of YouTube hits and a few viral classics and was the first late-night guy to take full advantage of the “new world.”
The whole “I’m with Coco” phenomenon hasn’t translated to the mega-success it hinted at, proving that it was more of a marketing success story than a testament to Conan’s drawing power.
My kids are too funny to watch Chuck Lorre shows.
your kids don’t have such a great sense of humor as you think if they find conan funny. he is tired. self-referencing more than any comedian (or anyone shy of bill clinton) i have ever seen. more dependent on his terrible physical schtick than ever before. just tired and lame. and sad.
It’s been 3 years since Late Night-gate? Holy hell, where has time gone?
This is the luckiest man on the planet.
Conan could’ve had audiences three to five times larger if he’d taken advice of former NBC bosses who invented late night television sixty years and built a better show. Now he’s licking up the crumbs. Not TONIGHT Conan.
Actually, he should’ve taken Howard Stern’s advice and never left Late Night at 12:30AM. That’s when he was actually good.
Conan on at 11PM gets roughly the same numbers as Carson Daley at 1:30AM. It’s also roughly the same numbers as George Lopez. Someone has to clue me in as to the logic of why TBS is extending his contract. I guarantee they could get higher ratings and make more money with Seinfeld or Family Guy re-runs in his time slot.
Because if they cancel him now then Koonin looks like a complete moron for making the big deal to get Conan in the first place. This is all about Koonin being able to announce two years from now that “we gave it a good try and we love Conan he’s a comedy genius but unfortunately his show just didn’t work for our network and we can no longer lose money on that timeslot. We wish Conan well in all his future endeavors.”
I can see Conan replacing David Letterman at CBS whenever Letterman decides to hang it up.
Very interesting…….Never thought about it until now but it makes perfect sense.
Please CBS, bring in someone new. Anyone. Not that I am anti-conan (heaven forfend) but why do all the jobs have to keep going to the same people?
It’s funny to me that some people pay more attention to what other people are watching than what they are watching. Whether his ratings are stellar or not the show itself has been fantastic, with cutting edge humor, and an environment that rivals Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show in pure entertainment value. I watch it every night, and think that every other person out there in their 20s would if they gave it a shot. Smart move on TBS’s part, the show is still largely profitable and with an opportunity to be the biggest show on late night cable TV.
Thank God! Leno is useless and Letterman is turning into a husk
right john……… why leno beats them all and your lame coco’s ratings are lower than local news!
Well done! Conan better than Jay!
The Conan show is the most anoying show ever
