Dane Cook is set to star in the NBC’s single-camera comedy pilot Next Caller Please. The Lionsgate/Universal TV project, written by Stephen Falk, centers on Cam Doherty (Cook), a brash, hard-drinking, no-filter maverick DJ of a satellite radio show whose world is rocked with the arrival of perky, feminist new on-air co-host Stella Stoobler (Collette Wolfe). Cook’s casting stems from the NBC development deal he signed last fall. Cook most recently guest starred on the FX comedy Louie and appeared in the features Answers to Nothing, Detention and Guns and Girls & Gambling. UTA-repped Cook has a very successful stand-up career: He has sold out arena venues such as Madison Square Garden and Staples Center, released several multi-platinum comedy albums and DVDs and starred in a slew of cable standup specials.

Nope. No. Uh-uh. No way. Just stop. Stop.
I guarantee this will be cancelled within the first few episodes. Dane is a mediocre comedian who has proven to be a terrible actor in every roll he has been given.
Will Lionsgate never learn that Dane is not meant to be acting?
Least funny man on the planet. The NBC nightmare continues.
There is a show I won’t be watching.
Wow, does that premise sound tired! Sounds like a 1970s Norman Lear effort.
No Chrispy, I think you are referring to the current Stern satellite radio show…tired…lame…phony..
just when i thought NBC couldn’t possibly come up with any worse programming ideas …
Oh man, that’s perfect casting. He’ll be great in this. I’d forgotten about that dude.
Isnt this already an FX pilot from the Always Sunny guys called “Living Loaded”…
its FRASIER meets WHITNEY. automatic home run! yes!!
Dane, you realize you will be banned from ever doing the Howard Stern show, right? Please have Marty Klebba as your fist on air guest…pure satellite radio show gold.
Looks like someone at NBC is a masochist.
Works for me this guy is talented
When Cook is acting in a supporting role (Dan in Real Life, Mr. Brooks) he’s great. When he’s the comedy lead in a project…not so much. And, yes, this show is very similar to the FOX pilot, “Living Loaded”.
I really liked this pilot but Dane cook!!!! ugh. no. no way.
Next Comedian, Please.
Good God no. Why?
At least he’ll be too busy to keep dropping in on LA comedy clubs to do laugh-free guest sets.
Still the best comic alive. A true rock star. The rest like Sarah Silverman, David wain, Jude apatie are just followers and suck. Kimmel not even worthy but wtf? He is the suckiest.
Go Dane daffy. Go.
They’re going to make Dane as Unlikable as he actually is? Wow, bold. Notice how, unlike other comedians, the show isnt built around his stand-up? Yeah, that’s because it doesn’t exist!! The man just isn’t funny.
One of the better pilot scripts out there, and now its doomed.
Why does everybody hate this guy so much? Im not a ‘fan’ and have only seen a few clips from his stand up routine, but I thought he was pretty good in ‘Dan in Real Life’ and ‘Mr. Brooks.’ He obviously has a large following, so I don’t see why the show wouldn’t work any less than anything else.
The answer is because it’s the hip thing to do. That’s why people hate him. Half the people that hate him have never heard his standup. It’s amazing that the guy sells out arena’s like The Staples Center and Madison Square Garden, something that only comics like Eddie Murphy and Dice have done, yet no one likes him? Who the hell is going to his shows then? How did he get platinum comedy albums? If the guy was just playing regular comedy clubs and was only moderately successful, you wouldn’t hear all this hate. It’s only because he’s so popular that people hate him. Let’s see how long it takes before someone comes along with the comment “No, we hate him because he sucks”
Is there time travel involved?
I mean the story sounds like it’s been written in the late seventies and has been in a coma ever since.
Who’s the wonder doctor who resuscitated this dead story and made it walk through a network door into a meeting?
And which undead TV traffic warden greenlighted this?
Will we see “Dr. Frankenstein” in the credits?
It’s all so exciting!
Dane Cook? What, George Wendt wasn’t available?
This will fail b/c single-cams don’t work on NBC. Should’ve made it a multi-cam like they got some sense.
