David Morrissey (State Of Play) has landed one of the most anticipated roles on AMC’s The Walking Dead. The British actor is set to join the megahit zombie drama as a new series regular in Season 3, playing The Governor, a popular character from Robert Kirkman’s graphic novel that serves as the basis for the AMC series. The Governor is the leader of Woodbury, a small settlement of survivors, and becomes the chief antagonist for The Walking Dead‘s lead Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his group. Morrissey, repped by The Collective and Troika in the UK, recently wrapped Welcome to the Punch opposite James McAvoy and Mark Strong.

It’s cool they’ll introduce the Governor storyline, but I hope they don’t cut Rick’s hand off. Robert Kirkman even said he regretted making that decision in the comic, so hopefully he corrects that.

Crazy Chris the “Nightmare Man” from Scared Straight 99 would have made a great Governor.
I had been hoping they would do the role of the governor slightly different in the show and it would be Merle, but glad they are doing the storyline either way.
I cannot wait for them to get off of the farm. I have all 7 hardcovers and the show is not even through the first one. They storyline needs to pick up the pace.

I am huge Savini fan when it comes to his SFX but have you seen him act? He’s terrible! There are enough bad actors on WALKING DEAD already. They don’t need anymore. And The Governor is a crucial role in the comic. Savini could never pull that off. I think Morrissey will be great.

I tried watching A series before , waiting for the next season always makes me stop watching . (To much time in between seasons) saw first season yesterday , loved it , movie quality . First series I loved in a long time. Best show on t.v
I am such a big fan of David Morrissey’s he’s a great actor / director and the US is going to love him I’m sure. I have never watched The Walking Dead before but with David in it will be unmissable !

I think Jimmy Smits or Benjamin Bratt would’ve been perfect playing the Governor. In the graphic novels, he has color. He’s half mexican, half Irish
I love David Morissey. Watched him in the English Red Riding trilogy. He was great and so was the trilogy. He has great chemistry with Andrea.
