EXCLUSIVE: The CW tapped the offspring of acting royalty to play the prince in its futuristic drama pilot The Selection. Ethan Peck (full name Ethan Gregory Peck), the grandson of Oscar winner Gregory Peck, is set to star opposite Aimee Teegarden in the project, which draws parallels to The Hunger Games. Based on the upcoming series of books by Kiera Cass, The Selection is described as an epic romance set 300 years in the future. Written by Elizabeth Craft & Sarah Fain and directed by Mark Piznarski, it centers on America Singer (Teegarden), a poor young woman who is chosen by lottery to participate in a competition to marry Prince Maxon (Peck) and become the next queen of a war-torn nation at a crossroads. Maxon has an unusual run-in with potential bride America and is impressed and intrigued with her honesty and moxie. The CW has history of casting on its shows young actors who are the descendants of movie icons. Steven R. McQueen, the grandson of Steve McQueen, plays Elena’s (Nina Dobrev) brother on hit Vampire Diaries. Peck’s credits include feature In Time, a regular role on ABC Family’s 10 Things I Hate About You and an arc on the CW’s Gossip Girl. He is with ICM.

If his name wasn’t Peck would he have had to stand in that long line of actors to land an agent to get his breaks in the biz, and more? Hmmmm.
Your point being….? It sounds like you know an awful lot about this young man, his resume as a working actor the past 19 years, his professional training at NYU’s Tisch, his 19 years as a member of SAG, etc., etc., etc. All that stuff that is not inherent to a name, that rather what might, just might be what positions an actor to land an agent and to get a break. Think and do a little looking-up before you leap next time ‘Guest.”
That said i would like going though my life EVERYDAY being compared to my family members.
Ethan also speaks EXACTLY like his grandfather… it’s spooky, but in a good way!
Glad to see his career is taking off.
Yes, it’s a ripoff of a certain high-profile book series and movie, but it still sounds fun. Hope it goes to series.
Keep in mind that the certain high-profile book series and movie was also a rip-off of another high-profile book and movie.
“The CW has history of casting on its shows young actors who are the descendants of movie icons. Steven R. McQueen, the grandson of Steve McQueen, plays Elena’s (Nina Dobrev) brother on hit Vampire Diaries.”
This is the second time. How does that give them a history of doing it.And you’re also making it sound like that’s the reason why they cast those actors.McQueen had been a recurring character on Everwood and The WB/CW tend to use actors again over the years, he was cast in TVD.Nothing to do with his parentage.
It’s a history because they’ve done it in the past. Kind of like saying “Chris Brown has a history of beating women”, if he were to do it again…
Am I wrong here?
I don’t know about the movie icon bit but the famous actor’s children are on various cw shows. Kate Cassidy daughter of David Cassidy, Lea Thompson’s daughter, Zoey Deutch is in Ringer.
Interesting. Last year Peck “wasn’t doing TV.” Guess his feature prospects arent as bright as his ridiculous agents thoughts. (Wonderful actor by the way, great choice).
Great choice, he’s awesome!
this sounds like a scripted version of The Bachelor.
The Selection is a good move for the CW. The last time they tapped into a teen craze i.e vampires it turned out quite well for them. And this cast is looking more and more good. Ethan Peck is actually quite a good actor. Teegarden needs to shine something other than being Julie Taylor. Win-Win situation.
This show could be a hit if promoted right. So do the eliminated girls get killed? I’m interested though. It could be the first of other future dystopian movies/shows.
Great choice. Peck is an impressive up and coming actor. The amazing voice doesn’t hurt, either.
This guy? He’s vanilla and borderline boring! Uhhhh
Regardless of the name, another CW choice of no spark actors. Now instead of just looks, they are making their choices on lineage? I too thought Gregory Peck…why is this kid doing the CW?
I quite enjoyed Peck in 10 Things. McQueen is kind of boring.
The casting of Peck and Teegarden for the main characters of The Selection is awesome. I’m a fan of both of them and will certainly be watching this pilot.
