After a six-year stint as the lead of Syfy’s departing drama series Eureka, Colin Ferguson is switching to comedy as the lead in Bill Lawrence’s Fox pilot Like Father. The project, from Warner Bros. TV, is inspired by Lawrence’s real-life experience and centers on a father-son relationship. Ferguson will play the father Van Lyons, nicknamed “The Hurricane” for his bombastic personality. After his wife dies, Van moves into his son Will’s campus apartment. Also cast in the pilot are Phill Lewis (repped by Abrams Artists & KLWGN) as Van’s best friend and
Kevin Michael Martin (TalentWorks & Sweeney Entertainment) as Will’s roommate and best friend. Like Father reunites Lewis with Lawrence after doing an arc as Hooch on Lawrence’s medical comedy Scrubs. In addition to writing/executive producing, Lawrence is also directing the pilot. Ferguson, who also served as a producer on Eureka, is repped by manager Perry Zimel and attorney Jeff Bernstein.

Finally. The Long Island shooter gets the career break he deserves. I hope it’s not a legal procedural. He was terrible at that.
Hooch is crrrraaaazzzzy
Oh, good! I was hoping to not have to mourn the loss of Colin from TV for too long. Doing a comedy isn’t much of a stretch, since he was effortlessly hilarious on “Eureka.” My fingers are crossed that “Like Father” will be a hit. Yes, this far in advance. And, yes, they will stay that way.
When I first read this script and found out Colin was playing the father I thought of Ryan Pinkston to play is son, he looks so much like Colin and is one of the funniest young actors in Hollywood.
Love Colin, but this sounds beyond stupid.
Really? A father-son story you’ve never read sounds “beyond stupid”? It may end up failing (we haven’t made it yet) but I doubt it will be “beyond stupid”. “Not quite right” is the exact type of person who should use their real name, like i do. And yes, Colin rocks. Having a cranky morning; My hatred for the Internet grows daily.
Your last name is Oawence? I kid, I kid. Here’s a tip on how not to hate the internet: NEVER EVER READ COMMENTS. EVER. Especially if it’s about something you love.
(I’m looking forward to it. I love me some Colin Ferguson. Have no idea who the other guys are, but they hav nice smiles.)
“The Hurricane?” Bombastic Personality? Moving into your son’s college dorm room? By the way, which college allows THAT, exactly?
Yes, Bill, beyond stupid. I’m glad the suits liked your script enough to take it to pilot, but if this goes to series, you owe Colin a very expensive bottle of wine.
First off, I’m just playing. Secondly, I got my name right. But, finally… You’re sure you’re not being a jerk? In my new/stupid/masochistic Internet hobby of confronting people, you’re a perfect candidate. You seem to know the business. You’re probably smart enough to know that I didn’t write that blurb (the Dad just temporarily moves into a big apartment in NYC that he pays the rent on – no college dorm, no one calls him Hurricane). And you’ve never read anything other than those two sentences. Oh, and though i’d never use it, “bombastic” is just a word that could describe many tv/film characters. My point? I have issue with the word “beyond”. “Stupid”, I’m cool with. My script might be stupid, some of my giant misses pilot-wise were pretty dumb. But never beyond… Oh, and if we’re making snarky, rash, judgements based on nothing: your name “NotQuiteRight” makes me sure that you’re a pretentious, toolbag. But not “beyond” one… If this gets on tv you owe me a courtesy watch or we’ll never be friends.
hey bill, notquiteright probably should have read your script first, it was exceptionally good. and i’m not just saying that because when it goes to series i’d like you to consider me for your writing staff. but i would.
Colin is an exceptionally talented actor with an amazing sense of comedic timing. I think he and Bill Lawrence are a perfect match and will make wonderfully witty music together. Now we all have to just sit back and anxiously await the series pick-up. Congrats, gentlemen!
Weird, tonight I saw Colin Ferguson on the street when I was going to see a film at the ArcLight. I’m thinking, “Who is that guy? I know him from TV.” Then I come home from the movie, fire up the laptop, and this is what I find. Hollywood is, among other things, a rather small town.
I hope this works out for Bill, he’s a good guy and I hate how ABC screwed Cougartown. With that said, I also feel like his guerrilla marketing experiment somehow made the shows’ return ratings worst.
I’ll say it again: I don’t know any black people in real life that hang in exclusively white circles like the black “best friends” that get cast in movies and tv shows. To me it’s so bizarre. Time to start diversifying beyond the token.
Well, you’ve met one now. The majority of my friends are white, because that is the makeup of my neighborhood and my work environment. What, am I supposed to drive on over to Blacktown and hang with my homies, just to make you happy?
Come join us in the 21st century, RLS. We’ll have flying cars soon.
So excited to see Colin in something that plays more on his natural sense of humour. I loved him in Eureka and I will be sure to tune in for the pilot of Like Father.
I just hope filming doesn’t interfere with his attending DragonCon. I’d hate for him to have to miss an episode for the Con.
Hooch should have left the Gooch alone!
*Much RESPECT
I’ll tune in if only to catch Colin’s latest endeavor. Loved his role as Sheriff Jack Carter on Syfy’s Eureka (sad to see that show go) and hope the best for him!
Break a leg guys! Hope this is going to be pixkes up! And, Bill Oawence? Please don’t hate the Internet over some negative people, who value everything new and different to be beyond stupid. Conservative Republicans can be found everywhere, not just online. So please don’t shoot the messenger
Give it Your best shot and Colin enough room to improvise, and You’ll have NOTHING to regret! I’ll sure watch!!!
The script is really funny actually. I laughed out loud just reading it. It made auditioning fun; being the script is easy to follow. This should be a good addition to Fox. NotQuiteRight being a pretentious toolbag; I see what you did there, Bill. Ha!
