Daniel Craig seems to have aged hugely lately. He looks well into his 50′s here. I wish he was an actor that could do light and shade. Its all too one note acting for me.
I’d like to see Benedict Cumberbatch take over. He at least can do some lighter acting as well as the heavy dramatic stuff. Much more versatile.
??? Thanks for the suggestion Benedict Cumberbatch’s agent. We will definitely take that into consideration should we want to tank the franchise.
BC is actually a very good actor, but this is definitely one of the funniest comments I’ve read on Deadline.
DC is great as Bond. Skyfall has a great cast, looking forward to it.
you have no idea what you are talking back. Daniel Craig is a fantastic actor and looks yummy. I hate all the smooth faced statue looking actors. Daniel looks like my favorite leather jacket.
GREAT, just what we’ve been waiting for— a scruffy, unshaven, homeless looking 007!
Is anyone paying attention to this Mendes disaster in the making, the end of James Bond?
He looks like a villain in that picture. And old. Can we have a younger looking attractive Bond, please?
Boss.
Great cast as well.
Can’t wait…
Now this is what I call cool, menacing, a true bland instrument. Even like the stubble. Well done…
Michael, George Michael…
007 o’clock shadow…
Her Majesty’s Stubbled Service…
Skybeard…
Wait, I’ve got more!!…
Do spare us.
Awww, Mr. Snarky Trollboy doesn’t like the corny jokes.
About time! Stupid MGM.
Craig hasnt done well with any of his films of late. This should be his last Bond.
Craig is not an actor that can open movies. James Bond is the star of James Bond movies, not the person playing him (at least after Connery left) and therein lies their success.
Cowboys and Aliens wasn’t Craig’s fault. It was Harrison Ford’s fault. Or more specifically, the fault of atrocious writing.
Craig had me at “Defiance”.
You are so wrong. He is contracted to do 5 more James Bond movies. Daniel will be the longest serving James Bond with 8 movies. And Time magazine has named him one the 100 most influential people in the world. Are you living under a rock? Daniel has a great body of work. And yes, he had a late start in the American market, he just signed to CAA as his agent in 2007. His agent represents DeNiro, Depp and Cruise. We are going to being seeing alot of Craig, Daniel Craig. And thank goodness!
I just can’t get into these new Bond films. For me, James Bond was born in 1962 with DR. NO and died in 1985 with A VIEW TO A KILL. All the rest have just been unwatchable. They’ve just gotten too serious. They just look like generic action films.
The first 15 Bond films (though 83′s NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN was pretty bad) are classics to me, but the last 8 have not been worth my time. Timothy Dalton, Pierce Bronsan, Daniel Craig, give me a break.
I would have loved to have seen David Morrisey in a more Roger Moore-style Bond film.
I can’t wait for this movie!
I agree that the earlier Bond’s were better crafted and ultra-rewatchable.
Brosnan and Dalton were mere coverboys. At least old man Craig looks like he can scrap. The female M. doesn’t sit well with me. Maybe if it were Helen Mirren instead…
I grew up reading the Fleming novels and watching the Roger Moore’s so I can’t hate on “Moonraker” “Octopussy” and “A View to A Kill.” We 80s babies suckled at the 007 teat through those flicks.
I did read Moonraker the novel recently and was surprised the movie elided Drax’s Nazism and enraged orphan identity. Also, that not every lady Bond works with gives up the drawers or is useless (I’m talking to you, Christmas Jones! You too, Stacy Sutton!)
l heard they were considering Jonathan Rhys-Myers as the new Bond at some point but he suffers from some “issues.”
Mebbe they can send Craig in for “rejuvenation” like they do the ladies. Nicole Kidman or Michelle Pffeifer can recommend some doctors I expect.
If you honestly think that Casino Royale, Goldeneye or The Living Daylights are weaker films than The Man with the Golden Gun, Moonraker or A View to a Kill, then I guess there just is no accounting for taste.
For me, I prefer my Bond to be as close to Ian Fleming’s creation as possible, with the tongue-in-cheek humor or goofy gadgets.
Roger Moore? Seriously?
Worst Bond ever.
Eh, it’s a picture. There is nothing to evaluate here yet. I’ll wait for the trailer.
Looks more… sci-fi.
Bond stopped being Bond to reboot and be like Jason Bourne, now they are going for what exactly? I though it was a CGI still forma video same like Splinter Cell. Which is probably more apt than I’d like since the budget cuts they can not afford real location shooting and will CGI background and fill sets with Neon lights to simulate Singapore.
James Bond is dead, all hail the longshoreman!
Can’t wait for BOND 24!
It’s a fucking picture! You people suck! Give it a chance.
And change the title, please.
Mr. FU sez . . .
Bash this now and get on the bandwagon later. You Hollywood ‘smart cats’ are all alike. I bet you were the ones who thought Craig was too ugly to be Bond to begin with. Go back and watch Bronson (whom I like, mind you) ones if you don’t like Craig. But Danny Boy, keep going – you’re the real deal.
Years ago, I went to a pre-screening ‘Layer Cake’ that had a Q&A with Craig. Very humble, good guy and the perfect Bond – if any of you actual ever read the Ian Flemming books, you’d know exactly what I mean. Suave, but rugged. Of course, as the 1% of talented people in this town would say – ‘no one in this town reads the book!’
Y’all have no vision!!!
Mendes directing James Bond should be epic. See you all when you praise the film later this year – they’ll be room on the bandwagon then . . .
Nice little girl’s gun he’s holding there.
Careful or that thing might break the skin!
Daniel Craig’s the best thing that happened to 007 since Connery left the series.
He’s masculine, exciting, and a strong actor with charisma.
The beard he sports is only for a small portion of the film. It will not be there for the entirety of the picture… So… just relax, there’s a reason for the scruff.
And the lighting in the bg of this shot is because the scene’s supposed to take place in Shaghai.
I wish they’d ditch the whole “personal vendetta” angle. It’s been a part of every installment- in some shape or form- since 1989′s Licence To Kill. (Ironically, the most radical thing the producers could do at this point is have M send 007 on a regular mission like he used to!)
The fundamental problem with the series at this point is that it’s essentially been in the same hands since 1962. There’s only so much the same creative team can do with material- as evidenced by the dodgy track record of the current producers. I’d love to see someone new get the chance to adapt Bond- someone that isn’t restricted by everything that has come before and can offer new adaptations of Fleming’s novels.
When did Chuck Norris take over as Bond?
Daniel Craig in CASINO ROYALE was the best interpretation of Bond since Connery in FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE. Moore had his moments, but he was way too soft for the character. Brosnan was a complete wipeout and Dalton just didn’t have it. Craig is a serious actor with chops who looks and moves like a formidable killing machine. He even made Marc Forster’s third grade directing chops appear watchable in QUANTUM OF SOLACE. If you think Bond is more Roger Moore than Connery/Craig then you’ve never read the novels or truly understood the character.
Ian Fleming were to see that picture he would be spinning in his grave. Craig in general would really upset Fleming.
If Fleming had live and were on the set of Casino Royale and saw his new “Bond” run through a wall; blow up an embassy; chase a man with bull dozer; not give a damn; he would of waked off the set.
Craig has nothing to do the gentleman spy/ man of action Ian Fleming wrote about (envisioning Cary Grant as Bond while he wrote.)
There has always been a disconnect between the book and movies, Dalton actually came the closest to capturing the at times moody books. However Ian Fleming, Cubby, & Saltzman teamed up to create the style and flavor of the Bond movies used until 2006.
Craig’s interpretation have gone away from the source turning instead to more modern influences and ideas. Like the PSA with him in drag. James Bond 007 as a character should have never been subjected to that kind of promotional stunt.
Craig’s Bond may be a modern take on the spy genera but it is not the definitive take on the character James Bond. Too distant to the originals it is folly to claim Craig is the embodiment of Ian Fleming’s spy because he clearly is not, and has not done it with the two movies he has.
And he doesn’t have to be Ian Fleming’s 007 to be a success however it will not work telling anyone who questions how Craig can be the same guy we saw Connery bring to life with he words Bond, James Bond, that they do not understand Bond.
Well, the books are pretty bad. Bond was saved by the movies. Nobody would know who he is, otherwise. There were so many other, better gentleman spy novels being written at the time.
That said, Craig is probably closest to the spirit of Fleming’s Bond.
I am with you Mr. Fu….with the cast lineup and Mendes at the helm, this should be a great Bond…remember when Craig did Casino and all the pre-release posts about him….best Bond next to Connery in From Russia with Love….I still like Lazenby’s OHMSS (best emotional ending in a Bond film)as well….just sayin
I’m a massive Bond fan and an even bigger D. Craig/Bond fan ( at least from Casino Royale ) but I have to say this choice of images is weak and disappointing.
The little girl gun cancels out what the stubble/beard was probably shooting for. That itty bitty Walther teleports Bond fans back to Roger Moore who was the ” Liberace” of Bonds.
They are screwing with what made Casino Royale a great movie and maybe the best Bond movie ever…GRIT.
Please tell Sam Mendes to help us put Quantum of Solace out of our misery…gun Daniel up with a Walther PPQ or some other gun that means business. He’s concealing it in a tuxedo not a speedo !
What a nincompoop! That “little girl gun IS a Walther PPK, which is the weapon of choice in all of the Ian Fleming novels about 007. Obviously you are not a true James Bond fan, nor have you read any of the actual books.
Let’s hope this is better than the horrible QUANTUM OF SOLACE. Too bad about the whole MGM legal flap and the Bond property being in limbo, it took a few years off of Craig’s shelf-life as 007. And Cumberbatch as Bond? Really? I hate people who just throw names out there with no rhyme or reason, ESPECIALLY woman who have no clue what’s good when it comes to action properties. Love Benedict on Sherlock, but he’s NOT 007.
Daniel Craig is by far the Best Bond since Sean Connery.I would have to say another actor who should be considered to play the role is Clive Owen.He looks like the bond type and has the swagger. I think if it was not Craig in the Role Clive would of been the next choice. He definitly looks the part!!!.
