Giancarlo Esposito, hot off his villainous turn on AMC’s Breaking Bad, has been tapped for a lead role on NBC’s JJ Abrams/Eric Kripke drama pilot Revolution, directed by Jon Favreau. The high-octane action drama follows a group of people struggling to survive and reunite with loved ones in a world where all forms of energy have mysteriously ceased to exist. Esposito, repped by Domain and Principal Entertainment, will play Capt. Neville, a hard-as-steel military man with a genteel southern manner who may not always be what he seems. Esposito continues to recur on ABC’s Once Upon A Time and will guest star in an upcoming episode of NBC’s Community.

Congrats Giancarlo!! Long long way from PA’ing for John Pepper and I on that Burger King Commercial in New York back in 84ish!!!!!! Drop me a line one of these days.
Great script, great writers, great director, great actors. This is going to be THE pilot of the season!!
I’m worried the premise has holes in it, but I haven’t read the script. I guess the key idea is that all forms of energy are gone, but what does that mean? Are the rivers not flowing? Can’t they generate mechanical energy?
No holes in the pilot script, the energy premise is unique from Dies the Fire and Falling Skies and Jericho. I didn’t read the first draft that everyone panicked about but Eric Kripke is a great writer and its only going to get better. Plus Favreau is a great director and Giancarlo was amazing on Breaking Bad and the big budget on this pilot shows NBC is taking it very seriously.
It is a great script, two questions though:
1. How will NBC sabotage this from a marketing stand point? I mean AWAKE was the best pilot last year and they are only now starting to give it a small promotional push. Nothing like what they did for Prime Suspect, Law & Order LA or The Cape.
2. How is NBC going to sabotage this from a creative aspect? The script is not exactly broadcast safe. Are they just going to bleep things out like they do on Parks and Rec?
This is great news. He was excellent on Breaking Bad.
Just 2 quick comments about Revolution. #1)- If it’s anywhere as good as Alcatraz (tongue firmly in cheek)-we’re in for a treat. #2) Is it just me,or,does a show like this seem impossible-and I quote”a world where all forms of energy have ceased to exist”-then there would be NOONE “struggling to survive”-because aren’t we humans-”a form of energy”. I may not be a science whiz, but, I think I’m right on this one. If humans-”a form of energy” ceased to exist-then this program should not exist…
Heh heh tooshay. I remember about this time last year when Alcatraz sounded pretty cool, too…but we can always hope, right? At the very least, gun-totin’ survivalist Esposito should be watchable and fun.
Oh and PS, you’re right, if “energy” had ceased to exist, life would be impossible. They mean the energy grid is down, or machines that run on human-created forms of energy don’t work, something like that.
I think they meant ‘energy’ in a conventional sense, as in petroleum, electricity, etc. Without those things it is nearly impossible to manufacture solar panels or windmills efficiently, so it is valid to say that ‘energy as we know it’ is defunct.
Is it my imagination, or are the sci fi/horror genre pilots lining up some really awesome actors this time around? Martin Landau, Titus Welliver, Terry O’Quinn, Robert Knepper – what a smorgasborg of talent!
Have enjoyed Giancarlo Esposito on abc’s Once upon a time, but,to be totally honest-the fact this will air on Nbc means it will probably not succeed-I could be wrong but with Nbc’s history: I don’t think I am.
Congrats to GE.
It will be interesting to see if this or Beautiful People gets the post- Voice timeslot next year.
