EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros is negotiating to acquire Your Voice in My Head, the Emma Forrest-scripted drama based on the scribe’s memoir that is expected to be the next film by director David Yates. The film is shaping up to be a Harry Potter reunion. Yates is in discussions with Emma Watson to star in the role of a young woman who attempts suicide before being saved by a New York-based psychiatrist who’s dying of cancer. Watson and Yates worked together on the last four Harry Potter films. Warner Bros has made it a priority to get right back in business with Yates. The studio offered him its script Imitation Game, but Yates didn’t bite and the studio is putting together a list of directors I’m told includes Ralph Fiennes and Bryan Singer. As for the lead male role in Your Voice in My Head, the studio is aiming high, with names like Tom Hanks and George Clooney in the mix. Yates is expected to make this film before he does A Reliable Wife at Sony. Watson is repped by WME, Yates by CAA.

I have to agree with you, Melody. Colin may have been happy with letting Emma Forrest talk about their relationship, but I can’t see him wanting a film to be made of it. I’ve been in contact with Forrest (super nice and talented) and it sounds like she wants her story to be told. She has expressed this in many interviews. Her story is odd, but terrific. I ADORE Emma Watson but still wonder if she can handle this dark material.
I’m sure she is a nice person, but it doesn’t change the fact that this is a bit of a kiss-and-tell. We will be hearing one side of the story and that from someone who is not always as grounded as she should be.
Very good question, Melody. This isn’t some biopic about a famous person who has either passed away, or is very old and approved of their life story on film (like Aretha Franklin, for instance, is all for a film on her life). It’s not his life, but he plays a role, nonetheless, in Emma’s. In the book, he’s portrayed as a wonderful boyfriend in my opinion, except right at the very end in the way he broke up with her. It doesn’t make me think any less of him. I’m sure he meant no harm and would think twice about how to end things in future relationships. He’s human; humans are not perfect. Maybe they’ll go with an unknown actor.
This is what my problem is, Sasha, she is washing their dirty laundry in the public, whilst he is still very much alive and in the public eye. It is very selfish of her, as far as I’m concerned.
I am rather baffled by Emma Watson. I know people who believe she is rather wooden and not much of an actress. While I don’t find her particularly talented, I believe she gave a decent performance in the last two Harry Potter film and was good (not great) in her small role in My Week with Marilyn. Somehow, though, her name is being bandied around for major roles nowadays…Is Harvey banking on her “charming” public persona (which isn’t so charming in real life) and hoping that her talent develops?

Given that this author isn’t a household name, they could change Farrell’s name and the story wouldn’t suffer. It’s not like audiences would be sitting around saying, “I thought it was Collin Farrell she was dating.”
We know from “The Social Network” that so-called biopic’s don’t have to be entirely accurate. If the author truly wants “her story” out there, she should change his name. If she doesn’t change it, all the promotional interviews will focus on the fact that it was Collin Farrell she was involved with, and “what does he think about this movie?”…blah, blah, blah. It will make “her story” seem gossipy, and like she’s dropping names to sell her movie. I can’t believe that’s what she wants this boiled down to in the end.
This is where she was very clever, you see. She never mentions him by name, she only calls him Gypsy Husband. However, everyone knows that it’s Colin Farrell. He is the one she was dating at that time and he is the only movie star she has dated. In some interviews she has also not denied it, just didn’t want to comment. Those who hear about the movie but don’t know anything about her yet, will be curious about who it was. Colin Farrell is the name that they will get in their google searches. It’s a secret that is not a secret at all.
