EXCLUSIVE: In his first cable series gig, former Heroes star Milo Ventimiglia is set to star in Frank Darabont’s TNT drama pilot L.A. Noir, a fast-paced crime drama set in Los Angeles during the 1940s and ’50s. He is expected to join The Walking Dead alum Jon Bernthal, who has been in negotiations for another lead. Based on John Buntin’s book L.A. Noir: The Struggle For The Soul Of America’s Most Seductive City, the show tells the true story of a decades-long conflict between the LAPD, under the determined leadership of Police Chief William Parker, and ruthless criminal elements led by mobster Mickey Cohen, a one-time boxer who rose to the top of LA’s criminal world. Ventimiglia will play Ned Stax, a former marine who served with Joe Teague (Bernthal) during WWII, now a budding lawyer groomed to be a master “fixer” for the mob. In addition to writing, former Walking Dead showrunner Darabont is directing the pilot and will executive produce with Michael De Luca and Elliot Webb for TNT Original Prods. Ventimiglia, repped by CAA and Management 360, fielded interest from broadcast pilots this season before opting to go with L.A. Noir. His series credits also include a stint on Gilmore Girls.

Thanks, Deadline. I guess we know what happens to Shane (Jon Bernthal) on the Walking Dead since he’s moving on to other pilots.
This sounds friggin fantastic. De Luca and Ventimiglia make one heck of a team!
Sign me up for this one. TNT is bringing the heat!
even the period pieces have “fixers” in them these days!
Is this based on the new movie Gangster Squad or the XBOX/PS3 game of the same name?
Um Spoiler?!?! Does this mean Bernthal is not going to be on the Walking Dead anymore?!?!
Shane was always a short term character.
I feel like this is a spoiler for The Walking Dead. Bernthal in talks? Does this means he leaves Walking Dead? He’s a great actor, but the character of Shane is a ticking time bomb and I’d love to see him playing a character I don’t wish dead. Maybe this means they kill Shane at the end of Season 2? Or maybe it just doesn’t conflict filming wise. Interesting.
Great premise, interesting casting, Darabont in charge…this is looking like my favorite new TV show of next season.
They were more prevalent during those times than they are now. And definitely more flamboyant.
I can haz more noir?
Go Bernthal!
So is Bernthal’s character on the Walking Dead getting offed? How else could he be seeking the lead role in another series–particularly when the WD is expanding to 16 episodes for the next season?
This furthers my belief that Shane will not survive season 2 of TWD
Bizarre miscasting, to be honest. But I like Darabont a lot, so I’ll at least give the pilot a glance.
Is this based on the recent video game, “L.A. Noir”? Or does it just have the same title?
The game is fictional and called L.A. Noire (notice the E at the end), no relation to the book, though I’m sure the book & game pay their respects to noir films & comics.
Great casting. This series is sounding more and more interesting. I hope it’s dark and doesn’t have any stupid teenagers/children (Falling Skies). Oh, and I definitely think this makes it official that Shane is going to die on TWD.
If it’s true about Bernthal, it’s a bummer. I know his character dies early on in the comics but they’ve really made him one of the more compelling characters on the show.
sounds like it could be another hit by frank defintly will check it out when it starts airing.
He has such a 1990s face.
Milo was great on HEROES. Happy to see him back, in what sounds like it will be, a another really cool show!
Milo’s acting wasn’t something I enjoyed on Heroes. Will he still be doing the Stallone lip thing?
No, he had some cutting-edge surgery that repaired the nerve endings in his lip that were damaged when he was born. Twat.
I hope it’s TV MA
