Chris Colfer won a Golden Globe last year for his role on Glee and has been busy, writing a pilot for Disney Channel and two children’s books as well as penning the screenplay for, co-producing and starring in Struck By Lightning. Brian Dannelly directed the high school comedy-drama that co-stars Christina Hendricks, Allison Janney, Dermot Mulroney and Rebel Wilson. David Permut is producing with Rob Aguire and Mia Chang, and the plan is for the film to come out sometime this year. ICM packaged the film and is repping rights. Here’s the trailer:

Actually looks half decent… Might check it out. Congrats to Chris Colfer for his success.
Agreed. And I’m hardly the target demo. Loved the lines for Allison Janney! Congrats Chris!!
Trailer looks meh. I sincerely hope the film doesn’t suck. Colfer’s story is so inspiring, it’d be nice to see him have a career after Glee and not wind up on some celebrity rehab show in a few years.
Hope they find distributors for this indie! Seems like a witty script and a really good cast. Can never get enough of Allison Janney. I can bear with another higschool movie if it’s not about boys struggling to get it on for once.
What an incredibly talented young man.
“Kudos” is too bland a platitude, really, but, for lack of better… kudos, CC.
What an ugly little story. Isn’t this kind of threat/bully dynamic what gets teens into crisis?
Kudos to CC for handling the business of getting this made. But the subject matter and psychopathic user lead character is meh.
I think it’s more wish-fulfillment than anything: bullied kid gets even with the popular kids who made his life awful. One of the more cynical teen film trailers I’ve seen in awhile.
Nice work Colfer and team, I’m pleasantly surprised! Will be interesting to see who picks this up.
This actually made me laugh a few times. I love the girl from Modern Family. Good for everyone involved, a trailer that actually makes me want to see the movie.
Script is meh but for some reason I see CC directing really well. He instinctly gets how to portray real moments. Seems to have a great eye for funny poignant details about characters– gerat work bebe.
And of course, we love us some Janney–wahoo!!! Fingers crossed guys. Good luck!!
Juno meets Gossip Girl meets Glee = Huge bucks. Totally would see it… I wanna see Colfer in a movie with Robert Downey & Matthew Perry. Soo much delish cutie smarta** snark for everybody. Yea!
I’d watch just for Allie Grant. She was so good on Weeds and is still just as hysterical on Suburgatory.
IMDB says this movie is about: “After being struck and killed by lightning, a young man recounts the way he blackmailed his fellow classmates into contributing to his literary magazine.”
That would make this one of the least accurate trailers I’ve ever seen. Way to try to hide the downer concept.
Ouch. Good catch. Hope that the movie was re-cut and the IMDB description is outdated. The trailer makes it seem like a smart, funny satire of youthful ambition, ala Risky Business.
Chris Colfer’s early draft included a bookend story device that involved the lead character being struck and killed by lightning. It was poorly written and its quite clear they hired someone else to redevelop the script into much more palatable. Yet still, the idea of the hero blackmailing his classmates for his own goals is kind of sadistic… and weird… to say the least….
I think he actually wanted to make it clear from the beginning that the lead died in the first few minutes and it’s all flashback to blackmail. I’m not sure where you get the idea of someone redeveloping the script.
I am a little confused. You are telling us that Chris did not write this screenplay. All the publicity for this says that he did. Would you like to elaborate on that accusation?
Okay, I don’t know what you all were looking at, but this looked completely lame. This is like Zack Braff the redux. If this passes for good than the world has adopted mediocrity as it new mantle.
I totally agree. Nothing here I want to see.
The kid is smart. You gotta hand it to him.
I wanted to hate on this, but the trailer made me laugh. Twice.
Haters gotta hate, though. Kate Upton is fat! Whew, feel better.
So looking forward to see this. Love Colfer’s humour and of course seeing him outside of Glee. You go Chris!
Not sure about the rest of the Glee clan, but this kid seems to have a bright future. I’m impressed with the fact that he wrote this, and stars in it. Cant wait to see the film!
What a talented young man. And what a great cast. Cant wait to read about who picks it up.
My god!Have you ever heard about independent movies?
It’a not a glamour movie,it’s “real” and to me seems a very original and funny plot.
For once it’s not about the looser who want to be popular but about the smart kid who wants to get in a good collage. Not exactly an abused plot
Besides…this movie was written way before he starded GLEE.It is not inspired to GLEE AT ALL
This looks decent with some funny lines. Great cast and director.
the trailer made me laugh. Great cast. will see this for sure.
This looks horrible. Anyone that commented positively and works in distribution. Quit.
C’mon this looks awful. Who is going to see this. The trailer is mediocre at best. Hard to understand the premise of the movie. And the premise I get from the trailer is stupid and trying way too hard.
Lets be honest, Chris Coffer is not a star nor a guy who is going to carry a film. He does a nice job on Glee, but to a great extent he is a one note on that show.
Who is the target audience for this? Not teens, but it is a teen movie. Barely a rental.
I think the one-note performance has more to do with the god-awful writing than the actor. Though I’m also not convinced he can carry a film. It would be interesting to see him in a non-Kurt role that he didn’t write. Film could be good or bad – not convinced one way or the other by the trailer (but I am convinced whoever edited the trailer should be fired).
I have to disagree. He’s not even one note on the same series. That’s a kind of the only good perk to such mixed wtritting styles.
Oh it’s for teens, but the teens who are rarely represented. The ones who had their dream careers before popularity and just passing by through school. Not saying one is best than the other but it’s nice to see a film representing that other forgotten group. It’s also for those who are not teens anymore but who were those “other group” kids. In a grander view I think it’s about not conforming and fighting for your dreams and that is an appealing subject to any audience.
What a no talent, his one-note peformances won’t get him anywhere. He’s done after Glee.
Really? I think he seems pretty talented and the movie seems funny. Oh well, to each their own.
Ahah! Again, a fun play on Agatha Christie’s Ten Little Indians/And Then There Were None. What goes ’round comes ’round.
Oh my GOD!!! I cannot wait to see my idol in this movie!!!!!!!!!!!!
