EXCLUSIVE: Fox’s Kevin Williamson pilot has assembled a formidable leading duo, with Rome alum James Purefoy signing on for the second starring role opposite Kevin Bacon. The untitled project, from Warner Bros TV and Williamson’s studio-based Outerbanks Entertainment, is described as an edge-of-the-seat thriller about Joe Carroll (Purefoy) a diabolical serial killer who uses technology to create a cult of serial killers, and a retired FBI profiler (Bacon) who finds himself in the middle of it. Marcos Siega is set to direct the pilot, written and executive produced by Williamson, creator of Dawson’s Creek, the hit Scream horror movie franchise and co-creator/executive producer of the CW’s Vampire Diaries and Secret Circle. Like Bacon, Purefoy was among the most sought-after actors this pilot season. He was holding 4 offers when he picked the Kevin Williamson drama. The project may have had extra appeal because of the fact that, if it goes to series, it will produce 15 episodes a season instead of the standard 22. That was part of Bacon’s deal to star in it. British actor Purefoy, best known for his role as Mark Anthony on the HBO/BBC series Rome, will next be seen in the feature John Carter.

This has just solidified its position as Most Anticipated Pilot of the year. Kevin Bacon vs. Marc Antony, bring it on.
I’ve loved his……talent….since his role in Rome. Fantastic actor.
Purefoy is class. Wonderful actor and rather underrated. He’s good across the board – action/drama/comedy
Can’t they reverse the casting on this? At this point in his career, I’m more interested in seeing Bacon play villainous, and Purefoy is hot enough to make the “Sympathetic Male Lead” part interesting.
I like the somewhat contrary casting, with Bacon as the good guy and Purefoy as the hot bad boy…well, not that much of a stretch in his case…
James Purefoy was fantastic in The Philanthropist as Teddy Rist. I’d prefer to see him as something other than the villain, however.
Purefoy was in a British show (Injustice? maybe)last year that I thought was terrific – at least the one episode that I saw on while on vacation was excellent.
I have always wondered why US networks don’t pickup some of those British shows like Luther and the Purefoy vehicle. They’re so much better than the crap that comes out of Hollywood.
Damn, good casting. The show sounds pretty original too.
Wow, I’m sold at “Purefoy”. He was amazing in Rome, I even liked his small role in A Knights Tale. Can’t wait to see this!
The show already look like a winner.. Kevin Williamson is a genius and Bacon and Purefoy are just amazing ! Bring it on.
This is excellent news for all James Purefoy fans. He can play a devious killer really well- and is wonderful in menacing roles (Injustice and Metropolis spring to mind)
