EXCLUSIVE: Jane Levy is in talks to play the lead in the remake of Evil Dead that Fede Alvarez will direct shortly. She replaces Lily Collins, who exited the film recently. Levy is the star of the ABC series Suburgatory, and stars in Fun Size, the Josh Schwartz-directed film for Paramount.
In FilmDistrict’s remake of Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead, Levy’s plays Mia, a character that corresponds to Ash, who was played by Bruce Campbell in the original 1981 movie. Mia is one of five young people who head to the remote cabin where evil awaits. Recovering from a recent overdose, Mia is particularly vulnerable. Raimi, Campbell and Rob Tapert are producing with Ghost House Pictures. Fede Alvarez is directing and co-wrote the script with Rodo Sayagues. Diablo Cody (Juno, Young Adult) revised the latest draft. The movie is targeted to open April 12, 2013. Levy is repped by Gersh, Suskin Management and Robert Offer.

I am a big fan and think she is FANTASTIC!
Gotta agree with Ms. Neal. To stay current, I try to watch at least a few episodes of everything, and I have to admit that I’ve watched an extra episode or two of “Suburgatory” of my own volition and not as “homework.” I think the show is actually pretty well done. The writing and directing usually avoid sit-com conventions and a number of talented but under-utilized performers — Jeremy Sisto, Jay Mohr, Cheryl Hines — have the opportunity to do character-based comedy without (usually) being caricaturish. I predict a big career for Ms. Levy and think that it’s more than possible that Mr. Sisto and Mr. Mohr may finally get the chance to fulfill their early potential. (I still wonder wistfully what “Action!” could have become, given time to find itself as “Parks and Recreaton” has done.)
Simple – Action should have been on HBO where it could have been truthful instead of whitewashed on regular network television.
Parks and Recreation is garbage that has hung around way too long because NBC has nothing else in the can to replace it with……

Big fan of Levy, not a big fan of the premise or reboots in general.
Cody’s last attempt at horror was a huge flop. And if you count her revisions on Burlesque, than her last TWO attempts at horror have been huge flops.

yup, whatever ‘it’ is, she’s got ‘it’. It’s obvious with one watching of Suburgatory. i hope she has great representation, it seems to make and break these young women these days.
so instead of cancelling this abomination of a remake penned by the horribly untalented Diablo Cody, they keep on trying to make it? This movie will bomb, and bomb HARD. And it should. Evil Dead does NOT need to be remade. It’s perfect just the way it is – Diablo-Cody free! Oh, and Jane Levy couldn’t act her way out of a paper bag. Suburgatory is an awful show, and she is awful in it.

So it went something like this. Let’s do a sequel to Evil Dead. Oh but Bruce is looking kind of old and you know the tracking numbers don’t look good for a fifty something. OK, so let’s do a remake..no wait lets call it a reboot. Yeah Yeah. Good idea. And his name is Ash so maybe it’s Ashley instead, we’ll make it a girl. Yeah yeah. Really get the CW feel, yeah yeah. And who better to speak to girls but Diablo Cody. Yeah yeah, her voice is so real. Yeah yeah. So should we call it Evil Dead still? Let’s change the title to…oh wait Sam said he will sell out and agree to all of this but you have to keep the title. OK Fuck it, Evil Dead.

Um, Jane Levy is fantastic (on both Shameless and Suburgatory), but they should not remake this classic film. Sickening.
Levy’s fantastic in Suburgatory. She can dance that serious/sarcastic edge well, which is what’s necessary here.
Diablo Cody punching up the script doesn’t bother me. As far as I’m concerned, as long as Bruce Campbell’s keeping a watchful on things all will go well.

Jane Levy is terrific in Suburgatory which has turned into a fantastic show. She is a huge star in the making.
I don’t believe that this movie should be remade. Some things are perfect just as they are. What made Evil Dead great WAS Bruce Campbell. He can not be replaced. You could get a fricken siren to play the lead and it still won’t be able to compete with the original.
