In what has become a tradition for the post-Oscars editions of Jimmy Kimmel Live, the late-night show premiered its latest video spoof tonight, a movie trailer for Movie: The Movie, “the greatest movie ever made”. Featuring a bevy of movie stars, including George Clooney, Tom Hanks and Helen Mirren, and top directors Martin Scorsese and JJ Abrams, The Movie is introduced as “a romantically comic political action thriller drama based on the novel Push by Sapphire.” Here is the video:
Also tonight, Kimmel and guest Oprah Winfrey discussed the challenges of launching her new cable network OWN, which has largely stumbled in its first year on the air. Kimmel was convinced that his ideas for new shows like Oprah Repos Her Favorite Things, The Jimmy And Oprah Interview, Oprah After Dark and Book Club Fight Club would turn things around, but Winfrey dismissed them as being “off brand.” Here is the video:

Look, kudos for booking all those celebrities, but there isn’t one original second of content in this thing. These eponymous movie parodies have been played out in actual theaters, why would anyone be blown away by this? And another Push/Sapphire reference? Wow is that well bone dry!!
Tradition over. Please. And Oprah Fight Club? Really? Another Fight Club parody? Ouch.
Less than Bitchin’ writing JKL.
“there isnt one second of original content”…I think that was kind of the point…And I dont think anyone was supposed to be “blown away”. It was just something silly to to do. Im not always the hugest fan of Jimmy but if you think you can do better go offer your services to JKL. Im sure theyd loooove to have you.
More amusing than flat-out funny. But I’m sated. Sometimes rambling and over-the-top is good enough, especially if you’re easy pickings after getting bombarded with 3+ hours of Oscar bombast.
Kimmel is among the worst comedians to ever walk the Earth in my opinion. Utterly dreadful.
I Loved the Show. JKL
George Bush is still President to the Kimmel staff?
Is it really so absolutely impossible to poke even a little harmless fun at the current President?
Good God, that was long and only funny in a few places. What a disappointment. Some of his filmed pieces have been fantastic in the past. This was a huge miss creatively. Have to wonder how they got so much celebrity participation.
I love JKL but that was way too long and way too unfunny. Sorry, Jimmy…. you’re still the best.
I was looking forward to this, but it was a bit of a mess. “Look, famous people!”, loses its luster fast. Then again, Kimmel specializes in star-fucking that poses as irreverence.
Guillermo has become self-aware, and lately his bits have been terrible because of it. Like any reality star, the guy who’s never been on TV will only remain funny as long as he isn’t clued into what makes him funny to others. Once Guillermo started playing up the “funny Mexican,” he ceased to be funny IMO.
That was hilarious. I lo-lo-loved it! Made my Monday morning!
wow.
that was NOT funny.
at all.
it was sad.
what happened? he used to do great videos (matt and ben – handsome men club)…
Way too long to be remotely funny.
Knocked it out of the ballpark, as usual. Funnier than anything Billy C did. Jimmy should take over the Oscar hosting. He’s ready.
I agree with a few of the postings above. I’m a big Kimmel fan and the guy has done a lot of really fantastic original vids before this one.
If you want to use the point that the “lameness” of it was intended, I’d have to disagree. When you’re known for creating fun spots like “Handsome Men’s Club” and “Ben Affleck”, you’ve got to kind of go above and beyond, don’t you think?
It seemed (the Movie trailer) like it was just throwing stuff against the wall to see what would stick and it was definitely too long to work well.
But you hit some and you miss some.
Still a fan.
As for hosting The Oscars?
REALLY great idea. (Put him on the list, Producers.) He couldn’t do any worse than (sadly so) Mr. Crystal last night.
Agree that MOVIE: The Movie was lamer than expected.
But Oprah’s Book Club Fight Club took me by surprise – and as an admitted hardcore Oprah fan and one of OWN’s three faithful viewers – I found it hilarious, especially the degree to which she committed to it. The comic timing of the graphics and the stunt fighting was hilarious. The room I was in belly laughed out loud and rewound to watch it twice.
Nothing on any late night show ever makes me laugh out loud – but that got me.
