EXCLUSIVE: Jimmy Wolk is the first actor cast in Political Animals, USA Network’s 6-episode drama series from Greg Berlanti and Laurence Mark, which premieres this summer. Written by Berlanti, his first solo spec script since Everwood, the Washington DC-based series explores a fictional former first family that is on the verge of falling apart. The show, produced by Warner Horizon, centers on Elaine Barrish, a divorced former First Lady and current Secretary of State who struggles to keep her family together while dealing with the crises of the State Department. Wolk will play one of her sons, Doug, who has the makings of a formidable future politician and serves as his mom’s chief of staff. This marks the second DC series project for Wolk – he starred in the ABC pilot Georgetown last year, which was produced by Warner Horizon’s sibling Warner Bros. TV. The former Lone Star leading man, who also was pursued for broadcast pilots this season, recently did arcs on Shameless and Happy Endings. The actor, repped by WME, Greenlight Management and attorney Amy Nickin, co-stars in Focus Features’ For A Good Time, Call…, which premiered at Sundance.

To James/Jimmy’s agent:
Please choose a first name you want us to call him. Pick one, please.
We can’t figure out that Jimmy is James? Caan managed to go by both. This isn’t a problem.
Congratulations Jimmy! Couldn’t happen to a nicer or more talented actor. Looking forward to your new series. You were great in Shameless.
Jimmy is WONderful! Worked with him, such a nice guy.
forget jimmy or james, How about Jimbo or yimmy? break the mold!
From where on earth did “Jimmy” come? It’s always been James.
Great move for Jimmer. With the J-Man on board, this is shaping up to be a great project.
The world’s most boring actor.
I am still mad at Fox for cancelling ” Lone Star .” It had the potential to be a breakout hit , like ABC’s “Revenge.” The charismatic, James Wolk , is a major star in the making- only if he chooses wisely.
Jimmy/James Cagney has a rather successful career without ever “picking a name.”
Wasn’t interested in this pilot idea before. Am now.
He’s so adorable. Really like this guy. Am enjoying him on Happy Endings at the moment.
So’s this a comedy or a drama?
