Jon Voight and Elliott Gould have joined the cast of Showtime’s drama pilot Ray Donovan starring Liev Schreiber. Created and executive produced by Southland creator Ann Biderman, executive produced by Mark Gordon and Bryan Zuriff and to be directed by Allen Coulter, the Showtime-produced project takes a novelistic look at contemporary Los Angeles. A dark family drama with comedic undertones, the show centers on Ray (Schreiber), a professional “fixer” for LA’s rich and famous who can make anyone’s problems disappear, except the ones created by his own family. Oscar winner Voight, repped by CAA, will play Ray’s father Mickey Donovan, a newly freed ex-convict who heads to Los Angeles with suspicious intentions to reconnect with his estranged family. Oscar nominee Gould, repped by APA, will play the recurring role of Ezra Goodman, senior partner at a law firm who is Ray’s mentor and confidante, yet is showing signs of early dementia.

Wow, the boring-as-hell Elliot Gould alongside the talented Liev Schreiber–that’s a joke, right? How could Gould even be considered? His career has long been dead for a reason–it deserves to be!
I had no idea anybody hated Elliot Gould that much. What, did he sleep with your wife or something?
George, you are an angry and cruel person. Elliot Gould’s talent preceeded you and will shine beyond your offensive remarks.
You’re nuts, George. He may have been an occasional PITA to directors, producers and co-stars in his youth, but you could never question his talent.
A very bad title.
This will tag me as an old fart, but when I hear the name “Ray Donovan”, I think of the former Secretary of Labor who was acquitted in a bribery case 25 years ago & gave this famous quote after the acquittal: “Which office do I go to get my reputation back?”
+1. Not just you…
Obviously George, you don’t know much about the entertainment business. You must have missed the Ocean’s movies and the recent Soderberg film Contagion. They’re lucky to get such a talented and iconic actor as Elliott Gould.
This is gonna be one slick pilot. And George, you couldn’t be more wrong. Gould is a seasoned pro who will bring the right combo of gravitas and vulnerability (and humor) to the role. They’re lucky to get him.
Is a professional “fixer” something like Winston Wolf in Pulp Fiction?
Ann Biderman is a vivid, searing balls to the wall writer. Anything she tries is worth watching.
Someday would someone please make HEADING WEST, one of her best, darkest feature comedy
scripts evuh!!
Gotta love agents.
