Gossip Girl, Melrose Place and Supernatural alumna Katie Cassidy is back at the CW as the female lead in the network’s pilot Arrow. The Warner Bros TV-produced project, a modern retelling of the story of DC Comics character Green Arrow, stars Stephen Amell as the vigilante superhero who fights crime using archery, martial arts and technology under his secret identity as Oliver Queen, a wealthy playboy and billionaire industrialist-turned-outspoken politician in Star City. Cassidy will play Laurel, a young legal clinic attorney who shares a romantic past with Oliver. (In the comics, the character, Dinah “Laurel” Lance, has a superhero alter ego, Black Canary.) In Arrow, Cassidy joins Amell and Susanna Thompson, who was cast yesterday as Oliver’s mother, Moira Queen. David Nutter is directing the pilot, written/executive produced by Andrew Kreisberg, Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim. On the feature side, Cassidy, repped by CAA and Anonymous Content, was most recently seen in Monte Carlo.

Good to see KC back on the radar, and hope this means she’ll get her shot at feature leads soon.
I wonder if the network realizes that the fanboys have pretty much lost all interest in this, and the majority of the general public just wont care. You dont tap into the comic-book demographic by making a show that has nothing to do with the comics….this has bomb written all over it. And as Adam West once so wisely told us “Some days, you just cant get rid of a bomb”.
Speak for yourself.I’m looking forward to this.I was not a fan of Smallville’s Green Arrow, but I’m liking everything I’m hearing about this project.
Not only does it have nothing to do with the comics, it has nothing to do with SMALLVILLE either, which has had this character on there for basically a decade!
Nothing to do with the comics?Have you read character breakdowns or the script review? This sounds almost exactly like the comics.
The main character is a former bad boy name Oliver Queen. He has wealthy parents named Robert and Moira Queen.Their family owns a company. His potential love interest is named Dinah Laurel Lance and she has a father who is a cop.
He has an accident on a boat where he ends up stranded on an island for a number of years and returns with a new perspective on life.He decides to use his wealth to develop high tech arrow based weapons to wage a war on crime.
Now, even though they’ve changed things like the name of the city and given him and Dinah a younger sister, it’s beat for beat what happened in the comics.None of those changes do anything to drastically alter the story or make it different from the comic book character.
CW, PICK THIS PILOT TO SERIES ASAP! You had me hooked the second you announced Katie’s addition to the cast!
Katie is awesome. Great girl, total professional, absolute pleasure to work with. I wish her and the project the very best.
Anyone who ONLY believes in sticking to the source material is just an idiot.
Sorry fanboys… but if they did that, none of this shit would make it to the screen.
She’s not a terrible choice, just a little soulless compared to what the script is calling for. The real problem here is that the whole project feels a bit like the TV-dinner version of the “Bourne” series and thanks to the heavy involvement of Berlanti and DC’s Geoff Johns any interesting attitude or flavor has been completely ironed out of the first hour. If you’re gonna do one of these comic book/pre-sold franchises, you can’t be afraid to get a little weird and eccentric–look at Game of Thrones and Battlestar Galactica as examples if this kind of thing done right.
The problem with ARROW is that it feels too much like NBC’s recent Knight Rider re-do: no soul and a weak-ass vision that talks down to the audience.
She was terrible on Supernatural. Could not act at all. Maybe she’s gotten better since then, but I’m not holding out any hope.
I also love how they HAD to make Dinah a legal consultant/lawyer….just like the recent Wonder Woman show that died on the vine. Hollywood seems to think that EVERY comicbook female has to be either a reporter or a lawyer or else they just wont be able to kick enough ass!!!!! FYI,she was a florist in the comics…the name of her store was SHERWOOD FLORIST. I dont expect anything even remotely that clever to make it into the show……
urrrgh really a florist, come on.
Justice is already in her blood, this is a better start for her in a new show. She can always be a florist later as the story progress if, who knows what will happen if this show gets picked up and progresses to 3 or more seasons. Character progression does not happen in a day some comic fans need to learn patience.
I always confues her with Kristen Bell — But then I remember — one is attractive and charismatic while the other is the oppiste of that — totally intolerable. Ugh
K-Cassidy was the last good thing I remember on both Supernatural and Gossip Gir.
I wish her success.
What are you talking about, they are both attractive and charasmatic ladies. K-Bell is awesome. She could play Black Canary sister or friend.
female superheroines have a huge fan base maybe this time they wont complain it off the map before it gets going like they did with wonder woman remake series
Supernatural fans started a campaign to kick her off the show. That’s how horrible her acting was.
Change the damn name to STAR CITY.
Im serious CW, if there is anything you can do to increase this show’s chances, its changing that damn name back to STAR CITY.
Excuse me…maybe in your little world, but in the big wide vast of things out there, this show is definately needed!! Men and women alike enjoy the comic characters or facsimile! Speak for youraelf lest I take you down fellow! BTW…the two leads are perfect!
You must be joking. Katie, the original Ruby was awesome! Perhaps you are confusing her with the one who took Katies place when she chose to leave? Any Supernatural event I have attended have wanted Katie Cassidy back on the show. She is an amazing actress and so glad she is back on CW!
Are you kidding?? Katie Cassidy is a great actress and was WAY to good for something such as ‘Supernatural’. Sorry, tou are simply mistaken dear….reply to ‘supernatural’!
I dont know about FANboys. But this fan GIRL loved to see Justin as Green Arrow!! Without Clark Kent’s brain/bff side_Kick as his love interest *eye roll* I may give this show a chance, but would much rather see a Superman and Lois Lane series!!
