Smallville star Kristin Kreuk is back at the CW in one of the most talked-about roles this pilot season: the female lead in the CW’s drama pilot Beauty And The Beast. Loosely based on the 1980s CBS series starring Linda Hamilton, CW’s Beauty And The Beast is described as a modern-day romantic love story with a procedural twist.
It centers on Catherine (Kreuk), a tough-minded NYPD homicide detective haunted by witnessing her mother’s murder nine years ago and the killers’ quick demise at the hands of a Beast. After years of searching, Catherine finally finds the Beast, Vincent Koslow, the survivor of a military experiment that went disastrously wrong, and becomes the protector of his secret life as a superhero. Gary Fleder is directing the pilot, written by Jennifer Levin and Sherri Cooper. Levin and Cooper are executive producing with the creator of the original series, Ron Koslow, the original series’ producers Paul Junger Witt & C. Anthony Thomas, as well as Bill Haber. Canadian-born Kreuk, who played Lana Lang on the young Superman series Smallville, fielded interest from multiple pilots this season, including ABC’s Beauty And The Beast pilot executive produced by Fleder. Her post-Smallville series credits include an arc on Chuck. Kreuk is repped by Gersh and her longtime Canadian agent Russ Mortensen.

I like Kristin, but the script is HORRIBLE! They should not promote this show as a re-make of the 80?s original B&B -Instead of the mysterious, poetic Vincent they’re grinding him up & spitting him out to be a genetically altered hairy super soldier playing Wii & drinking beer?! They really should change the names of the lead characters b/c this is not the Beauty & Beast I came to love -I’ll probably watch the pilot out of curiousity, but I’m not expecting much -I’m glad the original series came out on DVD!

She’s such a booorrrrinnnggg actress. She is pretty to look at, though. Should be enough for some CW viewers.
One of the most beautiful women on television, though seeing her as a homicide detective is a bit of a stretch.
This is the plot of Castle with a deformed military experiment instead of a writer as male lead.

Very interesting move indeed! Signing Kristin almost seems like a no-brainer-SHE IS TRULY A BEAUTY.IMHO:The woman is gorgeous. Normally,I don’t think I would have been interested in watching this,but,now that Kristin’s on board-I will definitely be giving it a try. There are some similarities between this and “Castle”,except that Nathan Fillion is no beast-he’s a hottie! Thank you.

Could not agree more. They want chemistry, sign Tom Welling. They love each other (Work wise) and they wouldn’t have to find someone to connect with Kristin. They fit so perfectly together. Anyone who watched all the season of Smallville they did together would think so too.
Problem is, Tom Welling ain’t that great of an actor to do real drama… I LOVED Smallville but that’s because I’m a BIG Superman fan..:)
I greatly disagree. Though Chris Reeve is the greatest Superman ever, Tom Welling is the greatest Clark Kent ever. And in the 10 years he was on Smallville I never saw his acting to fail. He delivered the goods.

Hooray for the CW casting a minority in a lead role! Yes, Kristin is only half, but Asians are not really represented on the CW outside of Nikita.
It’s great but I wish they had found someone like Maggie, someone who is not just a pretty face but also a solid actress.

Have the producers lost there minds. I’ve seen her in Street Fighter and Smallville and she has no where near the dramatic depth of Linda Hamilton. Don’t get me wrong, Kristen Kreuk is a descent actress, I just thought they wanted a show that was going to be as good as the original.
I mean Linda Hamilton really brought in the tears or deep loving emotion for most of her scenes. Kristen Kreuk just lacks that depth and something like that cannot be learned in drama class.
Don’t get me wrong, I think Kristen Kreuk is an ok actress and I’m sure is a nice person. She just is not up to the level. This is really dumb, considering the original show was known for it’s dramatic quality.
Kristin is as bad an actor as that Victoria’s Secret model in Transformers 3. Kristin just depends to much on her beauty and not her inner heart to give emotion to the performance. They need to cast an actor on the Charlize Theron level. There are plenty of young actresses out there that are looking for a break who actually can bring more to the role.

she is obviously jaw-dropping gorgeous and one of the prettiest girls on tv out there, but her acting is rather weak. hopefully, she’ll be able to carry the show.
She is stunningly beautiful. By this point I expected her to have a Mila Kunis-type career, but maybe she was happier to take it easy after Smallville.
Whatever the case, I’m glad she’s back.

When she left Smallville I found I wasn’t interested in watching the show anymore.
Me too I hang in there for the last two seasons but it wasn’t the same without her.
This is going to be another Ringer for the CW if they intend to rely on Kristin Kreuk to bring in the viewers. KK has a really devoted Lana Lang fan base, and so does Sarah Michelle Gellar with the Buffy crowd…..
Smallville is the kid version of Superman. Beauty and The Beast is a remake of a major prime time rated show that relied on Linda Hamilton’s performance.Anyone who thinks this is a great idea obviously had something to do with the boring V remake and the campy Knight Rider remake.
It would be impossible to find anyone who could play that part better than Linda Hamilton did. But I loved Kristin as Lana – she is a beauty and I believe she is a good actress. Sometimes the Clark/Lana relationship DID have echoes of Vincent & Catherine for me – so we know she is capable of doing that kind of romance well. I think this choice was definitely a step in the right direction!
